I need some help, my moms got a 2.5 gallon with a betta she wants me to get her a lil cory, but I know there supost to be in groups and she would need a bigger tank but she is stubborn and shes also dieing so Im gona just give her her way, I would get a bigger tank but shes living at my grandmothers who wont let me, so my ? is this can a small cory and a betta fit in a 2.5gal and not get all stressed out and die? I want to make my mom happy but not make the fish miserable, did yours do ok?
@whiteboypatrickkelly sorry it took so long for me to reply, i didn't see the comment. mine did ok for a while but then i did move them to a bigger tank after a while..but I think as far as your particular situation goes you would be fine to get her a cory cat and put it in the 2.5 with the betta, IF YOU are the one taking care of the tank and you are willing to do it you could look for a small type cory cat in your area.
@fishyfinatic thanx for your help, the cories at my local fish store where babys and realy small so I was woried that her betta might thump on them, she had a african dwarf frog before that the betta didnt mind so I got her 2 frogs, I felt it was kinda 50/50 on rather or not her betta would attack the lil baby albino cories so I played it safe and got her the frogs. ty for your help
@whiteboypatrickkelly you can get panda cories, or another small cory and you could put 2 or 3 of them in the 2.5 with the betta, this is only if you are willing to do just a bit of extra cleaning to keep it up for your mom...it would make the cories happier and live longer and im sure your mom would love to see the lil things swimming around in a lil group :)
@rainypassion101 you COULD, but as i told another person on here, the cory would do alot better in groups, and if you are willing to do the water changes, you would be better off getting 2 or 3, even 4, of a small type of cory. but with a 2.5 i would probably stick with 2 or 3...if you had a 5 gal you could go with 4. it would HAVE TO be a small type cory like a pygmy or a panda
my betta is a nippy SOB... I have only seen him puff up maybe three times for the whole six months that I had him... but when feeding comes around if your fingers are anywhere near the top of the water... he jumps for a taste of blood... hahaha... no really he jumps and nips.. even when there isn't food he nips... but he won't puff up... I love my fishy... hahahaha world domination... lol
uuuummm... you know you overstocked that tank right? =/ did you move the other fish to their own tanks or upgrade to a 10 gallon?
The general rule for freshwater fish is 1 gallon per inch of the full sized fish. bettas are typically 2-3 inches so it should have been alone in a 2 gallon. In a 10 or 20 gallon it would be a great community.
It's overstocked. 3 Corys, 1 Tetra and 1 Betta in 2.5 gallons isn't good enough. Also, use Flourish Plant Fertilizers for your plants. It's like giving your plants food.
Lovley betta, mabey you should just have him and 2 corys, at the moment it is a little crowded, no offence! It is a perfect size tank for 1 betta though.
no offence taken at all. i totally agree with you, thats why they are all now living in their new 10 gallon tank with one more cory and 2 ottos.. they all seem very happy now. thanks for the comment and concern for the fishies
Oh good, im glad you didnt get all huffy and puffy, i have commentted on a few peoples vids and they all get really defensive, im glad you took it lightly. Oh and how long have you had flame?
i think the people who get defensive are the people who dont know what they are talking about when it comes to fishes.... in my opinion that is. i haven't had flame that long probably since early september i think. I dont have that much experience with bettas...so this is a new thing for me. Im more use to keeping fish from around the Amazon river basin...ive bred cories and angels... but this is totally different.
Wow i love angels and cories are just so cute and handy for cleaning up leftovers, bettas are pretty easy, im lucky my tapwater is quite good, all i have to do to it is just remove the chlorine and chloramines, but the ph is neutral and the kh and gh are just about where i need them, i havent tested ammonia, nitrite or nitrate, but i will buy some test kits tomorrow.
i have to go to a spring down the road to get my water because our housewater has salt in it.soon i will put up a video of my 10 gal.its totally planted and i got a couple mollies the other day for some more algae control.some say they shouldn't be with bettas others say its ok.mine seem to be getting along just fine.i think i got enough mollies that they entertain themselves and leave the betta alone.
hi i like your tank i got a betta called icey i got a 5 gallon it is blue with alot of live plants and he has sum freinds like 4 neon tetras 1 panda catfish i got a heater betta is turning baby blue anyways you tank is very nice that will keep your betta happy and healthy plus colouful all of this will keep you betta shinig like a star bye

You need to get mates for your tetra. They're schooling fish and are lonely by themselves. I'm glad you've moved your family to a 10 gallon!
