  • well played! only one comment: on 1.12 you should play A, G, etc. and not the same line as the guitar does, which is F, E, a kind of 2nd voice).

  • Does the 4003 have Ric o sound (a stereo output, along with mono)?

  • @MultiBassman24 Yes, it does.

  • Kool Dude... Good cover... if u get to stage exit left, then give me your bass...lol

  • nice and added to favs..

  • excellent!

  • You play the song very well. Good job. I don't play bass (I play guitar), Rush is probably my favorite band but if I played bass it would be on a Rickenbacker.

  • Nailed it dude. Fantastic job.

  • I cant wait for my 4003 to come this week =D

  • im guessing your strings r ... rotosound

  • @bassplayer20orange Yes, they are Rotosound Swing Bass RS66 LD strings.

  • nice job my friend, i dont play bass but would like to learn after seeing this...

  • why all the people have rickenbackers!! i want one!!

  • OOOH! Rickenbacker *orgasm*

  • Amazingly good, man!

  • It's a pretty hard song to play and you almost nailed it! loving the the rickenbacker, have the same one!

  • I really enjoyed this one. You have great technique. I love the ric too, but I think that pickup would drive me crazy.

  • @vtx1300dave If youre talking about the saddle over the pickup you can take that off. Thats what Ive seen a lot of people do.

  • Few rough spots but overall it was good :)

  • I got rid of my pick up cover today, very happy about it.

  • Holy hell, that Rick is sounding beautiful. Break starting around 3:20 sounded great. You HAVE to have a seriously strong right hand to play like that, boss. Well done.

  • I hate you, because you have that bass and I don't =(

    great playing

  • Nice job, Dude. I can tell by the way you move when you play that the music pulsates thru you! Keep on keepin on!

  • so rics typically have thin or thick necks?

  • Thick, Think Stingray size.

  • Rick have very odd necks...they're very nice and thin..but then all of the sudden the neck gets so fucking fat at the 1st fret, that's the spot there the neck expands into the headstock...every time i play one and got to the 1st fret of any string im like what the fuck?

  • your rick sounds like hell. put more volume thru neck pickup

  • Maybe it's your computer speakers?

  • A great effort! Watch "Rush in Rio" and carefully watch his neck position. I had problems learning "difficult" bass lines for years. It's all about neck position. Geddy plays what I call rolling bass lines. La Villa Strangiato" seems difficult until you see him roll through those riffs. It's all about neck position. He also plays bass pedals the same time he plays bass guitar. You're on the right track. Keep it up. Fool around with neck positioning. You're better than most bass players already!

  • I have the same Ric, but get rid of that pickup cover! Nice job.

  • you shake too much...that´s funny

  • I saw your comment in another video that you've only been playing a year. I would say that your time has been well spent. Nice job. Also, using two fingers does help speed and if you watch Geddy, he also uses one finger, two or three depending on what he's doing. Your technique is fine!

  • @78fenderPbass geddy does this thing where he uses his finger like a pick... hitting the string in an up and down pattern... i tryed but its kinda wierd... im more partial to just using 2-3 fingers the "normal" way...

  • I think you did great, my only critique is that I believe in the beginning Geddy plays 5th fret notes as opposed to the open ones.

  • @zanarian11 yeah they usually sound better...

  • Beautiful Rickenbacker dude and excellent cover. I soooo want a ric right now...

  • Awesome cover, I'm thinking about posting my own cover of this, and your video helped me touch up on a few parts!

P.S. Keep rockin that Ric, I'm green with envy =)

  • cool.

  • Valarie Lee plays this one better and has a better tone too!

  • you're killin' it bro! great work!

  • Your Tecnic is incorret.... alternates yours fingers =). you anger to obtain speed better, and to play all the notes... I forgive for the error of grammar, I am Brazilian...

    Good Studies!

  • Honestly bro, I've come to the conclusion that you're amazing.

  • I simply could NOT have enjoyed that any more than I did.....AWESOME job!!!!

  • dammit. i really, really wish i had enough for a rickenbacker. or if people made rickenbacker copies. rush is so fun to play. great cover, i love your videos. what amp are you using? cabs too.

  • There are Ricky copies out there, there's a Japanese one called Rickenbetter if I recall correctly... Not sure what they sound like tbh but they look exactly like the original.

  • You mean Rockinbetter :P

  • Awesome bass, nice progressions, and style, too! Keep up the great work!

  • geddyyyy

  • cool bass

  • Well Done!

  • you are pretty good

  • Work on it, i´m not bashing you but it needs some work (the nuances are very important)

  • Agreed.

  • i don't know if its just me but the intro sounds like your plugged into a guitar amp

  • I think its just the trebly tone of the Ric

  • whats your amp???

  • It's a Gallien-Krueger MB150 combo.

  • ah, a barchetta vid where someone handles the 2:30 - 3:00 part right. it's not that hard - apparently nobody else can be bothered to put in some effort.

well done on the outro, too.

  • great sounding rickenbacker

  • Rickenbacker 4003... i believe geddy used this bass on one of the tours...

  • 4001

  • fuckin sick dude

  • I've been playing along to Rush songs for 27 years with limited success, but you really nailed this in my opinion !

    Thanks...

  • what strings did you put on that. are those the stock ricks?

  • No, they are Rotosound Swing Bass RS66 LD roundwound strings.

  • Thanks those're the ones i use on mine.

  • are you plugged in stereo?

  • No, I use the mono jack. I sometimes use the effects send on my amp to a PODxt that is hooked up to a keyboard amp though but not on this video. This video is mono direct to my amp.

  • great. do you have videos where you play stereo? I'm getting a ric soon and I really want to hear the 2 amp sound. Can you post a new video where you play stere, then?

  • Sorry, no I don't use the stereo jack or have a stereo patch cord.

  • dude ur awesome love you and rush!!!

  • nice played but A LOT of mistakes concerning the bass line...i mean you play the wrong notes...

searh in Google for Rush Bass Project..you will find a site called cygnusproductions..there is the correct transcription for almost every rush song

    good luck =]

  • I thought he did an outstanding job.......geddy doesn't even play it like the album anymore.....check out YYZ on Exit you'll see what I mean........fcbv did an excellent interpretation.

  • I can;t stop doing that silly move when playing Rush songs too, awesome.

  • awesome cover man. and I think it's great that you threw some of your own stuff in there. shows character in a player hahah

i play a warwick corvette and im hoping to get my 4003 in a few months!!!

  • hmmm....so so

listen more to the song, dude.

    nice bass anyway

  • I'm surprised you keep the resonator bar on. It's right on the sweet spot for playing. Last time i played a Ric the resonator bar was still on and I didn't have the means to remove it. With it on I couldn't get a comfortable spot.

  • You dance like a champ.

  • dude...woodshed!

  • excellent...you really make good use of that bass

  • Such a beautiful bass. Such a beautiful song.

  • nice job, lad.

  • Excellent!

Great Cover and ilike your sound

    Rock'n roll

  • i really like rush songs, but i dont like the singers voice...

  • then you dont like rush

  • nice choice in song! like it alot!

  • I dig your violin vibrato :] I do the same thing on my Warwicks

  • great cover, great song!

  • it's a ricky!!!! :D

  • Well played. Good cover!

  • Nicely done. You really captured the right feel. Appropriate tone too, great overall!

  • excellant..its cool to see it actually played...im 35 years old and i rank rush one of my all time favorite bands..i myself tend to be a funk and dance melodic player..but i think the world getty lee and the rest of the band on moving pictures was awesome..signals was cool too..

    D

  • geddy*

i had to say it :P

  • nice bass

i wish i could afford that

  • It's good, but the Fender Jazz sounds so much better on this tune.

  • It was recorded on a Ricky so it sounds better on a ricky thank you =)

  • no. never. my friend, you know what you see? Rick is Rick.

  • ummmmm lol...

  • wow...you do some of the best rush bass covers on youtube!

  • see munkybarz first. but also this guy is very good.imo.

  • yes it is 331Bass!!

    how is it not?

  • its not but it sounds just as good

  • Not to be a jerk, but the part right around 1:10 is not the right part. I know you're interpreting the way you like, but it's just off sounding.

  • Almost the whole song isn't like Geddy played.

This isn't meant to be a critique.

  • geddy lee uses the moog taurus pedals on that song right?

  • u show me a better bass brand then Rickenbacker and ill show u a liar :) nice job

  • alembics are better then rickenbakers but I think gibsons are better then alembics.

It's all in the sound you want.

  • in my opinion, gibsons are some of the worst basses out there. but you know what they say: "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

    ears in this case.

  • this is andy432105 my account was hacked..... i agree gibson basses are HORRIBLE! and alembic... not familiar with them..... but rickies kick so much ass

  • i just think they have i crappy selection of basses,as far as current times go.theres only like two or 3 basses they still sell.other than that there no good

  • i think gibson is alright. i like the sound but the neck in my opinion isn't fast enough and they are heavy also. i like fender basses, mostly the j bass. i love how the bridge and middle positioned pickups make slap easy. and the neck is amazing. and they are light compared to a gibson. and much cheaper too. i would love to try a rick.

  • just tried a rick today.... made a mess in my pants ;)............. but seriously the store clerk told me to settle down :P

  • i here the necks on those things are some comfy and easy to play.

  • Great playing! Excellent! Just a question (bass wise) would you say that out of all single neck Rickenbacker basses (that would mean besides the 4080) would you say that the 4003 would be the bast choice instead of a 4001? Because i cant tell the difference between them. Also, does geddy ever use and special effects besides like just the normal bass sound? :D

  • I'm pretty sure that Geddy uses two amps - one distorted, one clean

  • He used to do that, bi-amping. Since the 4000 series are dual output, he used one OD and clean. Now he uses the Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver. And it really doesnt matter which one ya get, the 01 and 03 are just about the same. The new ones are a little higher output than the old ones, but they sound the same.

  • thats really kool only thing is that alot of people post videos of themselves play but alot of people can play pretty well sum more then other as we can see here(good job again) but the thing is that there playing by them selves poeple should post videos of them playing w/actual people not to a cd or a file on a computer just saying

  • Beautiful!

  • I'M PLEASE TO HEARIN' FROM U!

  • Great Job! nothing sounds like a Rickenbacker.......

  • great job man!

  • vale la pena verlo!!

  • Nice.

  • Nice job! Excellent!

  • lol do you like rush by any chance...you got like 4 vidioes of you playing their songs.....ima see them in like a month in concert

  • wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Youve got some parts wrong. Instead of goin by ear, i highly recommend looking at some tabs. Really easy to read and can improve on what youre doing. Btw. I love your bass its amazing.

  • Some you mean alot

  • man ive watched literally all ur vids. you are the best cover-er of rush songs on the bass man. where you learn that stuff? tabs? or ear? you should tackle YYZ next!

  • I mostly learn by ear. A lot of people ask for YYZ and I always have thought it would be impossible for me to do justice but maybe I'll tackle it some day. Thanks very much for watching them all!

  • or you could just learn how to read music

  • Inspired me to learn it.

    thanks bud.

  • i love the feel of the neck!! its all like ( for lack of better terms) slippery

  • wat's the purpose of the thing that goes over the strings by where ur playing?

  • pick guard. its a magnet, you can alter the entire tone of the guitar if you take it off, like is common on 4001's

  • It's a pickup cover/palm rest for playing with a pick. It really has nothing to do with the sound or tone of the bass.

  • incredible talent.... For your next excersize learn MISSION off of Hold Your Fire.... but then again you probably already know that one too! Great work!

  • do u play it over a amp or through ur pc?

  • I play through an amp and record using only the camera's microphone.

  • cool!witch amp do you use?

  • It's a Gallien-Krueger MB150 combo.

  • how do u play thru ur pc

  • VERY COOL! Rick and everthang!

  • mmmm a rick

  • Gosh, very nice job. I want a Rick so bad, but my job makes it impossible (not enough money for gas/insurance, plus a nice bass). :( Good Job anyhow.

  • sick, sick, sick

  • Very good job on a difficult song.

  • sorry, not good version

  • sounds good

  • si qeres tocar como yyz tambien tenes qe cantar y tocar el piano te faltan dos pasos mas

  • that is very very good....

I am gonna get one of those one day.....

I will post it up here to show ya!

    nice playing, and beautiful bass...

    Rokkitt

  • Nicely done.

  • bassist, from 1 to 10, 10.

    ric bass... from 1 to 10 15. !

    Nice bass, and nice playing

  • I wonder how much Geddy's Rickenbacker would cost today. :O and if one can get a replica, how much that'd be.

  • it would never happen geddy signed to fender

  • It's just a regular rick 4001 that he used...nothing really custom about it....just rotosound roundwound strings as far as I know... the list price on the new 4003 model (same bass really) nowadays is $2159, but you can get 'em for about $1900 on Musicians' Friend and such.

  • That song was actually recorded with a Ricky, but I guess it was a 4001

  • nope it was a 4003

  • Nope, it was a 4001...the 4003 is an updated version, with a better trussrod system - trust me on this=)

  • the 4001, especially the 74-80's models are way better...

  • OOOOOH!!

    I want a Ric!!

  • All of his basses were amazing, Personally i like the ricky, Its a matter of taste, so dont argue about it please guys?

  • his wal bass sounded the best to me

  • Dude, nice bass!

  • There are some spots were you might want to clean up a bit. Mainly in the faster sections, but other than that, good job. That Ric sounds so good!

  • Man i wish i had a ric.. jus dont have the money...anyway nice playing

  • you sound awsome dude; great balance and form. you could work on you picking a bit; sometimes you fumble on some of the quick notes. it still sounds great.

  • Good technique. On the B section of the song (pre-chorus) Geddy plays a low A over Alex's F chord to give it a very dissonant angry vibe. Try it along with the music, you'll see.

  • Most excellent.... and no pick....*****5stars, now the trick is to play it with out the playback....

  • played it exactly as Geddy would, same Bass and everything

  • I don't think Geddy plays on a Rickenbacker anymore. He plays on a Fender Geddy Lee bass, Fender Jazz basses, and a fretted and unfretted Fender Jaco Pastorius bass.

  • Yeah, and his bass tone has never sounded as downright sexy since he put the Ric down. :-(

  • I don't know about that! Just saw Geddy live and boy does that Jazz sing. But I must agree I miss the Ric tone now and then. He did pull it out for the encore, however.

  • He doesn't record with Rickies anymore, but he actually pulled out a Rickenbacker to play A Passage to Bangkok in this last tour: Snakes and Arrows

  • Indeed, I saw them a little over a week ago and he pulled out the Rick. He also pulled out a Jazz bass for Malignant Narcissism.

  • ur an idiot he used the rick only for a passage to bangkok for malignant narcissism he used a jaco fretless j bass for the rest of the concert he used a geddy lee j bass i saw them in milwaukee
