You play the song very well. Good job. I don't play bass (I play guitar), Rush is probably my favorite band but if I played bass it would be on a Rickenbacker.
Holy hell, that Rick is sounding beautiful. Break starting around 3:20 sounded great. You HAVE to have a seriously strong right hand to play like that, boss. Well done.
Rick have very odd necks...they're very nice and thin..but then all of the sudden the neck gets so fucking fat at the 1st fret, that's the spot there the neck expands into the headstock...every time i play one and got to the 1st fret of any string im like what the fuck?
A great effort! Watch "Rush in Rio" and carefully watch his neck position. I had problems learning "difficult" bass lines for years. It's all about neck position. Geddy plays what I call rolling bass lines. La Villa Strangiato" seems difficult until you see him roll through those riffs. It's all about neck position. He also plays bass pedals the same time he plays bass guitar. You're on the right track. Keep it up. Fool around with neck positioning. You're better than most bass players already!
I saw your comment in another video that you've only been playing a year. I would say that your time has been well spent. Nice job. Also, using two fingers does help speed and if you watch Geddy, he also uses one finger, two or three depending on what he's doing. Your technique is fine!
@78fenderPbass geddy does this thing where he uses his finger like a pick... hitting the string in an up and down pattern... i tryed but its kinda wierd... im more partial to just using 2-3 fingers the "normal" way...
Your Tecnic is incorret.... alternates yours fingers =). you anger to obtain speed better, and to play all the notes... I forgive for the error of grammar, I am Brazilian...
dammit. i really, really wish i had enough for a rickenbacker. or if people made rickenbacker copies. rush is so fun to play. great cover, i love your videos. what amp are you using? cabs too.
There are Ricky copies out there, there's a Japanese one called Rickenbetter if I recall correctly... Not sure what they sound like tbh but they look exactly like the original.
ah, a barchetta vid where someone handles the 2:30 - 3:00 part right. it's not that hard - apparently nobody else can be bothered to put in some effort.
No, I use the mono jack. I sometimes use the effects send on my amp to a PODxt that is hooked up to a keyboard amp though but not on this video. This video is mono direct to my amp.
great. do you have videos where you play stereo? I'm getting a ric soon and I really want to hear the 2 amp sound. Can you post a new video where you play stere, then?
I thought he did an outstanding job.......geddy doesn't even play it like the album anymore.....check out YYZ on Exit you'll see what I mean........fcbv did an excellent interpretation.
I'm surprised you keep the resonator bar on. It's right on the sweet spot for playing. Last time i played a Ric the resonator bar was still on and I didn't have the means to remove it. With it on I couldn't get a comfortable spot.
excellant..its cool to see it actually played...im 35 years old and i rank rush one of my all time favorite bands..i myself tend to be a funk and dance melodic player..but i think the world getty lee and the rest of the band on moving pictures was awesome..signals was cool too..
this is andy432105 my account was hacked..... i agree gibson basses are HORRIBLE! and alembic... not familiar with them..... but rickies kick so much ass
i just think they have i crappy selection of basses,as far as current times go.theres only like two or 3 basses they still sell.other than that there no good
i think gibson is alright. i like the sound but the neck in my opinion isn't fast enough and they are heavy also. i like fender basses, mostly the j bass. i love how the bridge and middle positioned pickups make slap easy. and the neck is amazing. and they are light compared to a gibson. and much cheaper too. i would love to try a rick.
Great playing! Excellent! Just a question (bass wise) would you say that out of all single neck Rickenbacker basses (that would mean besides the 4080) would you say that the 4003 would be the bast choice instead of a 4001? Because i cant tell the difference between them. Also, does geddy ever use and special effects besides like just the normal bass sound? :D
He used to do that, bi-amping. Since the 4000 series are dual output, he used one OD and clean. Now he uses the Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver. And it really doesnt matter which one ya get, the 01 and 03 are just about the same. The new ones are a little higher output than the old ones, but they sound the same.
thats really kool only thing is that alot of people post videos of themselves play but alot of people can play pretty well sum more then other as we can see here(good job again) but the thing is that there playing by them selves poeple should post videos of them playing w/actual people not to a cd or a file on a computer just saying
Youve got some parts wrong. Instead of goin by ear, i highly recommend looking at some tabs. Really easy to read and can improve on what youre doing. Btw. I love your bass its amazing.
man ive watched literally all ur vids. you are the best cover-er of rush songs on the bass man. where you learn that stuff? tabs? or ear? you should tackle YYZ next!
I mostly learn by ear. A lot of people ask for YYZ and I always have thought it would be impossible for me to do justice but maybe I'll tackle it some day. Thanks very much for watching them all!
incredible talent.... For your next excersize learn MISSION off of Hold Your Fire.... but then again you probably already know that one too! Great work!
It's just a regular rick 4001 that he used...nothing really custom about it....just rotosound roundwound strings as far as I know... the list price on the new 4003 model (same bass really) nowadays is $2159, but you can get 'em for about $1900 on Musicians' Friend and such.
you sound awsome dude; great balance and form. you could work on you picking a bit; sometimes you fumble on some of the quick notes. it still sounds great.

well played! only one comment: on 1.12 you should play A, G, etc. and not the same line as the guitar does, which is F, E, a kind of 2nd voice).
