  • Whos the black guy? I want to look him up.

  • Doesn't look like Fritz is playing in this concert, but I see Marty and Phil. Those two plus Matt Tropman mean that I've had lessons with 3 of the players in this recording.

At 2:33 you can see Matt attempt to secure his second valve. I had to chuckle at that.

    Amazing arrangement, amazing virtuosity.

  • any idea if the music is for sale?

  • This is written for 4 euphs.

  • surprised no baritones in the baritone section just more euphs

  • @darmass71 in other vids, demondrae and gail both double on baritone horn

  • Maybe the arrangement for the ensemble is by Gail Robertson but the arrangement for the solo instruments is by the GREAT trumpeter Thomas Stevens (originally written for 4 trumpets).

  • WOW, fantastic ending Gail!

  • :0 WHERE HAS THIS VIDEO BEEN ALL OF MY LIFE!!!!

  • Brilliant! Is that Andrew Duncan playing in the tuba section on the British Model EEb bass? Cracking stuff!

  • who is in the bass section? They've got a fantastically balanced, round sound!

  • AMAZING EUPHONIUM SECTION!!!!! UHUUU !!!

  • Brilliant euphonium section <3:D

  • Demondrae Thurman, the best 'sound' in the business - Period. Asyouwere.....................

  • @Neccesary3000

I'd vote for David Childs, but I suppose it depends on what you prefer.

  • @euphfellowship I hear you - Childs is a beast. For me, it's like: On this 'elite' level of euphonium artistry, everyone (for the most part) has monsterous technique, so I realy like when the 'sound' of the person separates them from the pack. (That is why you can almost readily recognize Childs, Berhend, Bowman, Mead, Frey and many others...) But to me, Demondrae's "SOUND" is so unique, rich & flavorful - no one else sounds like him!

  • ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!

  • I had a private lesson with Demondrae this summer. I learned a lot and he even let me play on his custom made euphonium. It was so amazing I hope I can go to the University of Alabama next year!!!

  • im not a fan of the conductor....but the eups are great!

  • With Charlie Vernon back there on bass trombone, if i'm not mistaken. What an all-star ensemble this is!

  • Yes, that is Charlie, great player

  • A couple of nice pearlers from the soprano player, like at 2:25. The eupho players were, well, typical eupho players and consequently the wrong side of the band to be of much interest :)

  • this is phenominal!

its amazing how they all manage to blend to eachother making that "one euph" sound.

I met mead and I had a private lesson with him, but I would thrilled to see all these guys together live

  • Amazing job. Who knows, some day people might actually know what the euphonium actually is!!!

  • The "black man" is Demondre Thurman who is as proficient on trombone as he is on euphonium and teaches at u of Alabama. He's as high quality a person as his playing and I am honored to have him as a friend.

  • Thurman(the black guy) Really knows what he's doing ^^ Great player :D

  • 3best in the World! =D I've played for him, he's awesome.

  • whah???..... tell me??

    Peter roberts on soprano?

  • Indeed! Legend on soprano :D

  • huh, i thought peter stopped with playing after BD?... or is this for more then 1 year ago?

  • Think this video is like 2 years ago or something :P

  • Just gotta love the swing-section:D

  • Personally, I do not like the arrangement of Carnival of Venice, I find it to bare little resemblance to Arban's work. However, that is one man's view, I'm sure others on the night enjoyed it.

I would like to apologise to Mr. Thurman if he has found my comment to be rascist - again not intended.

My comment reflects the typical, shall we say European, brass band, where (truly) we rarely see non Caucasians partaking in this model of music making.

    Keep up the good work,

    Blackdyke.

  • Being the original critic of your comment, let me also be the 1st to publicly recognize your apology. I completely respect your opinion on the arrangement and appreciate the way your feelings have been reworded.

Personally, I like the arrangement but I appreciate it differently than I would the Arban's. Similarl to how you can enjoy both vanilla and mint chocolate chip ice cream. They're completely different flavors but, in my book, not mutually exclusive. Just my 2 cents.

  • To all who have read my comment on this video:

I would like to issue a formal apology to those of you who have found the comment to mean something else - no racist innuendo was intended here.

  • Blackdyke said: "Is this an American band? Never seen a black guy in a brass band before, does he know what he's doing?"

Why do people with closed minds always feel the inescapable need to open their mouths???

  • Blackdyke said: "Is this an American band? Never seen a black guy in a brass band before, does he know what he's doing?"

Is it true, Blackdyke, that all brass musician in Ireland are uneducated drunk men with red hair who never finish playing the arrangement because they break out in a brawl everytime someone blows a wee bit flat?

You don't get out much to see the rest of the world, do you? What a pathetic racist ignoramus.
