  • Of course black women pay more for beauty products. Its mainly for hair care. They pay a fortune to make thier hair look more lusterous. I can't imagine having to pay so much to make my hair look good. I was lucky and was blessed with beautiful auburn natural curly hair. I feel for all the women who pay so much to get hair like mine.

  • It's some damn Hair Weave!

  • Are you half caucasian (aka obamarace)?

  • if black women went 100% natural do u know how much money they would save

  • Nice video

  • Thanks for the video! I loced my hair in '96 and cannot even fathom perming again but I am ready to do something. I can sit on my locs (2nd set) and want a cute short look again. Did you notice how your vibration dropped when you mentioned you had a perm. I feel ya. Feeling good about yourself is what is required. I can suggest the book by Louise Hay, you can heal your life as a beginning. You are also right...the beauty industry is not about you! We must learn self love and not others!

  • Well...It seems like there is a "moment" going on. Alot black women have decided to go natural or are transitioning. I'm transitioning from relaxed to nature myself =) Hopefully in the future more women (not just black) will learn to accept themselves for who they are and like V78thgz said concentrate on their health rather than their outward appearance.

  • Whoa ... Im white and was looking up weaves. And came across this. Thats so weird but are their statistics against white only or just every other racial group? I mean not all black women buy relaxers which i think is most of it anyways. But also your super prettt!

  • I'm starting 2 really think people/the media is really jealous of bw women (& not just 4 our natural beauty but b/c we really don't won't 2 conform). I tried googling the ACTUAL stats showing this but I couldn't find it so if someone knows how 2 get 2 this stat let me know. And 2nd of all, has it occured 2 anyone that the reason y we supposedly spend more $ is b/c ww & nbw have have centuries 2 find out what shades work 4 them. It's new 2 alot of us & most r still experimenting w/products.

  • I know that I am super late on this but why does it matter how ppl spend their money. Im tired of everybody wondering why black women do what they do. Show me a video on what race of women spend the most money on plastic surgery. I would rather someone buy hair or makeup den do something drastic and totally alter their appearance. For some black women weave is like a necklace or a ring and they just enjoy changing it. Let everyone do as they plz and live their life.

  • @brisentaiye0506 It matters because we're the first teachers and when we teach our children that it's okay to spend money we don't have on beauty products, we continue a cycle of ignorance. I'd like to find the numbers on how much of the half-trillion spent is on black-owned products, which I'm sure decreases every year being that many non-black companies imitate the successful black ones. It's no accident that shea butter is suddenly everywhere.

  • @MamaMudiwa I agree with you to a certain point. I do believe that we as a ppl should start running our own business and keeping our money in our communities but until that happens there are many other places we shouldnt spend our money because they are not owned by us. And never did I say I was ok with teaching our children improper money management or adults practicing improper money management but you say this as if no black woman is well off enough to purchase a wig, a perm or anything else

  • @brisentaiye0506 beauty related. And yes they imitate the hell out of the successful black ones but thats where we have to learn to not be sell outs n stick with our kind when it comes to business like the other races do becuz inorder for them to imitate it sum1 had to teach them, but we as a ppl have a hard time working n sticking toghether. Sorry im all over the place wit this comment( im at work..lol) im rushing.

  • @brisentaiye0506 Not saying that we individually can't afford wigs, etc, but as a people we own close to nothing and therefore need to focus on gaining wealth and power. I do believe that if we shifted our focus to at least buying solely black as much as possible, we'd be better off. And if that means that you can't buy a black-owned perm, etc from a black-owned store, then so be it. Be happy to be nappy. It's a small sacrifice that if enough of us made it, it would make a huge impact.

  • Yeah skin bleaching products are HOT amongst black females. I've noticed a lot of black women are getting light as hell, but the sun is getting hotter dena bizaaachi. It doesn't corealate... unless...they are using lots of skin lightening products.

  • i thought ur hair was nice and straight in this video

  • Black women as a whole, especially African-Americans due to the history of their existence; can actually help revolutionize and demolish the established European standards of beauty for women. Great self-esteem and self-confidence cannot be found in fake hair, nails, eye contacts and plastic surgery. It lays within one's personality. If black women decided to embrace their natural beauty and focus more on improving as human beings, the current standards of beauty would completely change

  • What's wrong with spending money on beauty products? Is there a problem or are they just splitting hairs when it comes to black women. I think white women spend more on plastic surgery, so what does that mean?

  • @808Lana it's not the issue who spends more it's that women in general relys on beauty to gain great things and that beauty is everthing to women it's the spirit of self

    high minded

  • @TheStrawbeery , I think we both agree on the same thing. I don't know why everything bw do seems to come under some kind of scrutiny. Like people are constantly trying to find 'symbols' of this so-called 'self-hate'. Personally for me, I find that people that are racist are self hating; the hate comes first from a hatred of self. The rest...I don't know.

  • @808Lana lmao!!! I don't think there's anything wrong with spending money on beauty products...I mean some people might go overboard, but there's nothing wrong with looking nice you know...as long as you're good on the inside as well as the outside, you know? And I got a real big laugh when I saw that you wrote, "I think white women spend more on plastic surgery, so what does that mean?" yea you hit that one right on...yea ppl...what does that say?

  • @KiwiSamoanGurl Ha ha:D Yep, exactly. But they are not called 'self-haters' and people don't try to 'examine' the meaning of 'that'.

  • @808Lana Why on earth are you offended by this video? The vid is not about plastic surgery it is about BW spending a whopping 80% MORE on beauty products "Weave" and hair dressings?

  • maybe because your hair is much more complicated and you guys abuse makeup. boohoo its racist.

  • you are very beautiful :D i love your nose ring

I wonder why black women spend more money on beauty products i think women of color are the most beautiful women in the world. I think all women are beautiful but darker colored women have very strong facial features, beautiful skin color, and they're gorgeous in everyway.

  • Your really pretty. Are you half Chinese. Your skin color is so nice and your eyes make you look super sensual.

I hope your not underage because than this message wold be really creepy.

  • Really loved this video. So true at 2:45. It's great to see a black woman speak about such an important subject without putting people down. It's about building each other up. Keep it up, sistah!

  • DEUTERONOMY 28 vr 43-45, (bible), the alien( other races), who is among you shall rise higher & higher above you, & you shall come down lower & lower. 44- "he shall lend to you, but! you shall not lend to him, he shall be the head! & you shall be the tail. translation God set all this up this way because our forefathers went against God & broke his covenant. look around your house, the white man has his name on everything even the toilet paper you wipe you a** with.

  • The cosmetic industries are largely owned by whites, who have no clue or even give a dam about anybody else but their needs. for example, I need a face cream that works on correcting uneven skin tones but most of these tone correctors are mixed with other chemical for wrinkles, and lets face it most black women don't need wrinkle cream. I tried it and it over dried my skin so much that my face started to look wrinkle, I even put on lots of moisturizer and still it didn't help.

  • there just maybe some truth to this, because I've spent more time and money looking for cosmetics and beauty supplies specifically for women of color. Also I live in an area where there is very few blacks, and trying to find the right shade of foundation is pretty much impossible. I've had to travel over 60+ miles or go online, and trying to find the right shade of makeup online is very costly when It's the wrong shade and you need to return it a few times. yes, I agree for me it's costly.

  • Im upset that women are listening to this statistic and not really ANALYZING it. Beauty products can consists of multiple fields: face, body, hair, etc. So lets interpret them in a realistic and logical way.

  • @LyricJordan but you gotta admit black women spend 6,7,8, hours in a beauty salon.Chemotherapy takes less time then that. What black women should do.Grow and maintain their hair(ditch the weaves) and lose weight(exercise) and they will be more desireable than anyother race.

  • Oh I definitely agree. Black women spend a lot of money on HAIR AND hair PRODUCTS. Now granted, we were makeup, but NOT like other races do. Those women start off wearing makeup when theyre 8. So yes we are contributing, but not at THAT percentage.

  • sad thing is that your sexy right now but its all about how you feel

  • because the "matrix" tells black women what true beauty is and not what they are (light skinned, straight hair) obviously you spend more money because you trying to be what you are not and thats expensive... YOU ARE ALL BLIND and maybe even me.. you have to fix this stop relying on your children to live your lives for you

  • black women spend money on hair products..yes

beauty products as far as makeup..no

studies and statistics are usually wrong and biased

  • @JCollegeGurl1492, I totallyyy concur with you. There is NO WAY that Black women spend more on makeup than other ethnicities, no way. Especially when I see White children wearing makeup at the age of 6. They cant go WITHOUT makeup. And on hair products, Im somewhat curious about that now because white women are wearing extensions a lot anddd they have a lot of hair products too.

  • blk women spend more on hair care, blks barely wear makeup we just started doing this I should know Iam a make-up artist.

  • Essence is owned by white folks! Okay!

  • Essence is actually owned by Arabs

  • Everybody from day one tells the dark skinned black woman she is ugly. Family, friends, society, educational system and the Media. They have been programmed for centuries to feel ugly, not enough, too this and too that. All the stuff their buying can be made at home in the kitchen for pennies. Hey black men why don't you organize and open some stores, so your " sister, mama and wives can spend their money? You alway telling us to be women...why don't you be superman and rescue us?

  • I know Thick and Juicy Black Babes. Visit - utubeblack , com ;D

  • I own Thick and Juicy Dark and Delicous Bitches Visit utubeblack , com :D

  • This was interesting.

  • Black is beautiful! Us Black men will still love yall without all that gook(makeup) on ya face and extended mess on ya head!

Its sad tho, cuz most sisters cant see themselves as beautiful. I feel bad about this. The self-image is so distorted.

  • It is far more important for black women to:

    * lose the attitide

    * lose weight

    * don't have babies with different men

    * don't be ghetto

than to spend on beauty products.

  • Is it necessarily a bad thing that we spend more money on our appearance than other races? Our hair requires more care so we buy conditioners, moisturizers and shampoos which are more expensive than European hair care products. Plus our skin blemishes easily so we purchase more skin care products. If most African American women are ugly, i wouldnt know because i'm not African American. But most black women elsewhere are very attractive.

  • Atemaatra) Ok first of all, "Most black women elsewhere are NOT very attractive." There are some cuties out there though...

Second, you're missing the point, black women are spending money on the wrong things. How bout you buy a book, "self-help how to be a better mommy" self-improvement, etc.

You're saying that it's ok to waste your money on Superficial beauty rather than Inner Beauty...

No pun intended but, THAT'S NOT A GOOD LOOK...

  • I agreed with you until you said black women from elsewhere are not attractive.

  • sportschic1) I meant that ALL black women elsewhere is not attractive...

I was just proving a point to the chick that made that statement. She doesn't really feel that ALL BLACK WOMEN are beautiful so stop making open-ended comments...

That's what's wrong with people, they say the right thing but they don't always feel that way which means that they are FAKE FAKE FAKE!!!

    I don't like Fake people...

  • bm don't pay natural haired black women that much attention to be very honest with you, some do but most don't

  • cottttt-daymn! 200 dollahs on hair??!!! wow

  • A black chick i dated for like a week dumped me cause i would not give her money to get her nails done, but she was ignorant anyways.

  • This issue proves that women can't lead men.

Women are too worried about how they look. Yet, this is instinctive, because it's a woman's nature to attract a man's attention. But, the problem is Feminism told her that she can do whatever a man can do. So now, all hell is breaking loose because she wants to look white. Yet, we black men gave her the afro to wear. We gave her the afro and declared BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!

    BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!

    BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • how did a man give blk women an afro to wear when The Most high created her with that hair? Stop listening to the media learn from you own observation.

  • Im glad you said that...Geez...Black women wont go to the gym for shit..

  • @V78thgz Bingo!!!!

  • @V78thgz nooo they need to spend that hair, weave and nail money on owning their own businesses

  • @V78thgz or how about using money to give their future kids tutions, or if your young go to college?

  • If most would just go to the gym and REALLY workout they wouldn't have to spend anywhere near that much. I mean really workout, not go and walk slowly on the treadmill while talking on the phone, not doing 5 crunches while giggling and laughing with friends, and not trying to look cute to the dudes there hopefully getting chose before they stop coming for good later that week...

  • 80% more and still the most undesirable

    WOW!

  • Ain't that the Truth !!!!

  • yep yep

  • That money is not being well spend they need to invest in a sandblaster for there faces

  • Shit They need to bribe some men to like them with that money.

  • love your video thank you for speaking about this. i decided to go natural again about a year ago. and the products for my hair are expensive witch is crazy. alot of hair product companies are jumping on the natural hair waggon and they claim that thier products are natural but they aren't.

  • Duh.... OF COURSE Essence is putting out this information to pander to the Beauty Product Industry. Have you NOTICED how many full-page beauty products ads they have in their magazine. LOL In essence, they are PIMPING Black women to generate their bottom dollar. I like you video and and the energy you present in sharing this story. May I say in these times, its a real treat to come across a refined Black female such as yourself. Tell the people who raised you Rick said "That's What's Up!!!"

  • Essence IS a double agent!

Black women are being used and deceived into paying a beauty tax in order to feel accepted into society.

Whites and Koreans make money off Black women and segregate themselves from Black women's communities and BW accept that. It's so sad BW are being had!

  • Co-signed. It's a no-brainer. The so-called Balck feminist magazine is guilty of pimpin' insecure Black females who secretly believe, THE MOST HIGH FUCKED UP when he gave their the hair and complexion HE saw fit.

  • Essence and other sources have been selling Black females on the idea that men will not like them if they are natural.

Then BFs turn around and blame BM for their own self hatred. This is WRONG.

Go blame Essence and stop buying into their bull. Go Natural!
