  • Bullet train is a Bad Idea because this Project will cost 45 billions dollars & the state is in a Budget deficit of 65 billion. & they cant take care of the states Disabled Hand cap people. Governor Arnold is for the High speed rail. ( IN HOME SUPPORT) GOV Arnold is abusing the Elderly & Handy cap people. you will have to Worry about your mother & Father when they get old because they wont be provided for. Gov Arnold is like taking baseball bat & beating your kids & Old people

  • Old people can't travel on planes any more because of the altitude sickness, they can't handle the G pressure during the climb and decent so High speed train would do just great

  • I see the german ICE train made by Siemens in the video. TGV is shit.

  • the American railroad was first establish in 1845, if American railroad went successful, so can American High Speed Rail. Amtrack Acela that goes from Washington to New Yourk was a great start of high speed train, like the first american railroad in 1845 and California high speed rail will start and grow like the early railroad of the 19th centurys.

  • Everything is good to go, construction is said to start as early as 2011, according to the California HSR website.. Planning and all that stuff is finished :)

  • they will i bet both be operated by metrolink and amtrak.

  • dang 0.0 thats one fast train

  • Trains are this generation! Next generation will be flying cars lol! O_o

  • 50 years ago people said that our generation would be flying cars. Nope, not until the FAA changes on a more basic level.

  • I wish there was flying cars, that would be a huge way to solve everything.

  • you watch too much Back to the Future part 2 movie, If Back to the Future was reality, then the Cash for Clunker program will allow people to traide in their gas guzzler road car, for a Flying Cars Hover converter.

  • Lol i don't watch to much back to the future =P Im just saying hover cars would be awesome, and reduce traffic, and get everyone practicly wherever. Who ever said i watch to much back to the future. Who knows maybe hover cars will be a new type of transport in maybe 100 years or so.

  • hmmm... by 2020? Europe (France) had these trains in the 1980's! that's 40 year differencce. damn, what's wrong with this picture? Why did it take so long?????

  • it took so long because the US is not as progressive as it portrays itself to be. It is primarily a capitalist nation and a car-culture. If it doesn't make money, it won't fly here. Europeans aren't really a capitalist society. They're a bit more progressive and PEOPLE-oriented than the US. There are individual cities in the US that are more ppl-oriented than other cities. But, as a whole, the US is more money-making oriented vs ppl-oriented. Just an opinion based on observations.

  • It took so long because we are more spread out than Europe - cars were seen as easier. I hope they start building more of these though because driving is far more dangerous.

  • Never mind now. It's not going to happen since California is on the very edge of Bankruptcy. Because CA's congress didn't pass a proper budget, the state's credit rating will be lowered to Junk-Bond status...i.e. NO way of ever funding this project! The good news is they'll STILL find a way to pay for welfare, section-8 housing, food stamps, child care, college aid, pre-K to 12 schooling, breakfast-lunch programs, prison housing, etc. etc. etc. for the 16+ MILLION ILLEGAL aliens in our state.

  • true. Poverty (and laziness, crime, cheating) continues to drain our systems, even a helpful systems like welfare & other state-aids. American society cannot progress for the good of everyone because of the corruption within the system, as well as the corruption from the users of the systems. CA is so broke, it does enough just sustaining the amount of poor (legal and illegal). Sadly, most poor (users, baby-machines, uninsured, spanish-language demanders) don't really care, only for the $.

  • er, "...even helpful systems", that is.

  • I think it's sad that California is not really a good place to live in anymore, as a whole, IMO. Not only is poverty ruining the state, but its cities are mainly urban sprawls, so public transport is hard to implement for everyone's use. It's too bad, because California, geographically, is a beautiful state.

  • It is time for Americans to change their way to travel - public transport

  • Comment removed

  • Do americans really think high speed trains are science-fiction? Obama has got a lot to do!

  • BUILD IT BIULD IT BUILD IT ALREADY!!!!! I cant wait to go to Disneyland for a day or have lunch with my cousins!! ITS TIME!!! Trains are the future BUILD IT!!!!

  • The present And the future :-)

  • You want it, you pay for it.

  • California, world leader in debts !

    great !

  • thanks white people

  • It's not a bullet train, it's high speed rail. It's different.

  • Someone tell me how environmentally friendly is the HSR? I really want to know!

  • It's supposed to be very good for the environment. There are a number of reasons I agree:

    -Electric trains

    -Reduced noise

    -Taking cars off the road

Also, Hollywood (or, should I say, Burbank) actors can live in San Francisco or Sacramento and have a short, green commute.

  • Not many people know this but the world's first high-speed electric trains were built HERE IN AMERICA in 1931 for the Philadelphia & Western RR. they were the first RAILROAD equipment ever tested in a wind tunnel and were capable of 100+ MPH speeds. A few years after the Bullets started running the Pioneer Zephyr made it's historical run from Denver to Chicago, and the M-10001 made its run from the West to the East coast in record time.

  • so impressed...makes me wonder when the British high speed 2 will even reach the drawing board

  • Technically High Speed Two has got on the drawing board, an antire route mapped out to Scotland (yes, a third electrified main line to Scotland -_- Wonder when they'll bother putting a single one into the West and South Wales?). However they won't reveal the exact route as to avoid NIMBYs crying out in sheer harmonious terror, waiting for Parliamentry and civil service backing right now, as well as private investment pledges.

  • If only city planners in the 1940's realised how their procar policies were going to affect us... don't get me wrong I'm not placing the full blame on them but also ourselves.

  • Spain will help the U.S. West coast to built the new High Speed Trains (experienced by the High Speed Trains Madrid-Sevilla-Barcelona)

  • It looks like there's a good chance this will happen soon due to the reinvestment act.

  • the future solution is high speed rail or trolleys

not electric cars or hybrids that get stuck on the freeway

in 10 years the freeways will NOT be moving use your pea brain for once

  • not only in trains europe is ahead. We have the biggest Airplane A380, since 2007 it's not longer the 747...

  • I noticed how they used AGV/ICE characteristics (front looks like ICE3 and in one part the movie just took AGV's advertising and painted the train blue and yellow) and still even though both trains are multiple units the train shown here was a train with two locomotives.

  • Yes. They are more likely to buy a TGV, Shinkansen or a Siemens car (ICE3) for their new High speed rail. I will definitely use this train if it should have a station in San Diego. California is the only US state that is able to compete with Europe. California!! ^^

  • They are thinking of buying 700 Series Shinkansen, painting them in yellow & blue(state colours) and using them as the rush hour trains as they have more capacity compared to a AGV/Thalys

  • You know. That is exactly what I was thinking because Shinkansen are also prepared for earthquakes and California is more likely to get them than Europe. But, I really don't like hte nose even though the nose helps to deal with the pressure when the train enters a tunnel ^^ I had this pressure almost all the time in Germany when the train entered a tunnel.

However, I like the European designs more than the Japanese (they look to much like rockets)

  • true. Japanese trains are lighter and accelerate better. but i believe they're made of aluminium while european trains steel? safety risk?

  • Actually there is no Japanese high speed train that can reach higher speeds than 186 mph (300 km/h.) The TGV reached 380 mph on a test! And their intention was to test the track, not the train. The trains can be bought from Japan or Europe, but if California wants to have a great high speed rail system I would recommend to get advice from Europe, especially France.

  • Some Japanese trains use steel, and some European ones use lots of Aluminium, just take a look at the latest versions of the TGV.

  • Shinkansen: 44 years, 7 billion passengers, not one passenger fatality from collisions or derailments.

  • I agree. While the Shinkansen are great trains, I think they should buy TGV's because imo they are the most beautiful high speed trains in the world.

  • ICE is better

  • Yeah thats another good looking high speed train, but I still prefer the TGV on looks. I dont really care what high speed train they pick though, just as long as its a true high speed train.

  • I agree with you:)

  • Steam owns all! Period.

  • In the 1950s, it was the interstate highway system for ground transportation and PAN AM for air tansportation that boosted the overall economy. In the 1990s, it was the info highway, later developed into internet, that did the work. Now it's time to build interstate high speed rail systems, a green transportation tech that combines the old fashioned ground/air ways into a new one. Revive the economy and investment where new cities and hopes shall be built and powered by clean energy.

  • Europe is 20 years ahead of the the USA.

  • how is europe ahead of the usa???????????

  • It is trust me.

    1. Our cars are twice as small = easy to find parking space

    2. Cars more efficient = less pollution/more fuel savings

    3. There are high speed railways in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy (soon), and Russia

    4. A lot of the railways are electrified = more eco-friendly/less noise

    5. Do you notice how when they advertise something in North America they say it's European if they want it to look good?

    These are just a few.

  • I know that it is a California based idea, but what about expanding it to go through Reno and Vegas, that would help those cities and your rail system, something that should be considered.

  • Agreed 100%!

THAT'S the point of High Speed Rail to link major cities over great distances together.

Though we have the Acela Express (Boston/Washington, DC), it's FAR better to have it as Cross Country HSR. MORE Jobs!

When you think about it, Airlines delay their flights when there is THICK Fog, rough weather or what have you.

Check out the "Speed & Fog" video of the TGV. Hardcore but mind blowing!

It's images like that Airlines cannot hide from you - yet they wish they could.

  • Support build new HSR in California. It will make transport revolution.

Rounting of California HSR is acceptable. It connect cities and major international airports.

However, I wonder the population density of California can support the operation cost HSR.

The cities should make more public transport to HSR stations.

  • Be better if CHSR and Pacific Northwest unite to one system, but I think in a future this systems will be one, and be destinations to Phoenix and Tucson

  • to Reno and Tijuana too

  • lol!!!!! hell yeah

  • The people of California has voting yes for this high speed project by referendum in the same time of the election 2008 in past november for their new president of the United States.

This high speed rail network will be the second high speed rail project after the Northeast Corridor when Acela trains are putting on the rails between Boston-New York-Washington DC.

In my opinion, that's a good step to the good direction.

  • This will be the first "Dedicated" high speed track in the states as the acela just just a quick and dirty retrofit and has stripped down high speed tracks.

  • So when is this going to be built?

  • 2012 -2018.

  • Transportation seems like it has always be important in California. It has been clear for about 20 years or more that there are way too many cars in the state, so naturally high speed rail is the next step. It's shocking that it's taking so long. If California does it, you should expect to see similar projects in the northeastern U.S. between Boston, New York, Washington, Philadelphia and Baltimore. One problem which could arise is where all the electricity to power the rails will come from.

  • You guys have to understand that building HSR systems take awhile. Give them a chance to build those cities with higher priorities in population then continue to expand the system if it is working really well for everyone, then proceed on. HSR across America is a dream will have to come true when CA will be paving the first road for all of us. I made my sister vote for Prop 1A even I was in Florida and not registered to vote in CA.

  • wsansewjs,

California had the chance 25 years ago...

The 1 Hour PBS TV Program "NOVA", highlighted that VERY plan to bring Bullet Trains to California:

    "Tracking The Supertrains

While America's passenger-train service deteriorates, trains in Japan and Europe are speeding ahead at over 150 miles per hour. NOVA reports that the super-fast trains are finally coming to America.

    Original broadcast date: 12/14/82

    Topic: technology/engineering"

  • Wow! Thanks for letting me know about that. LOL I wasn't born at that time :P

  • HSR is a great idea, but according to this video, the state of California stops in Sacramento. How about HSR for all of California?

  • I wanna know your opinion, folks.

What model do you think this train should be?

A non-existing model that may be designed? Or a current model?

I think this should be AGV. What do YOU think?

But if you already know for a fact that it WILL be a certain train let me know.

  • Here is my theory, sammydenyc.

HSR could have started in California 25 years ago. AGV could have already been placed on order and ready for Revenue Service after testing and 500 MILES to break them in.

Check out my profile for the link to my Blog: America could have BUILT a better Railroad.

Plenty to read and video links to view.

  • Not like Japan, but I think that Shinkansen is the future of high-speed wheel-track technology.

    对日本日本无甚好感,但我认为新干线是未来高铁轮轨技术的发展方向。

  • This sounds exciting to hear bout California, but this highspeed rail might put reginal airline and busses in california out of business. If this country has a big streatch of high speed rail which goes all across the U.S. there will be less car on the road, and you probably wont see lots of comercial plane in the air, unless you live in the bay area. however, Airlines would be use to travel accross the ocean while High speed train and cars would be use to travel on land.

  • County is way to big so it would be expensive so just just targeting the most dense and congestested place for now. Better then nothing at least.

  • This plan is insufficent! The whole country should be covered with a highspeed rail system, not just California! The west coast should have one mainline that goes from downtown Seattle to downtown San Diego and hit all the pop centers all the way down! LA, SF, Portland. The smaller cities should be connect to that mainline by feeder lines, trains that dont go as fast be go much faster than the current one do!

  • I agree, celldumseen. HSR should include ALL of the USA. Not just California.

When the Acela Express came online in 2000, I expected MORE Acela Trains going south to Florida and west to California soon in the following years ahead.

It's a joke the Acela Express operates between 'Boston & Washington, DC' only!

Japan is the size of California. Look at the US$80+ Million Dollar investment Japan has made 50 years ago!

Let's see what Joe (Amtraks Best Friend) Biden will do for HSR.

  • So what?? France invented the CAR too.

    And France invented the plane.

France has the best engineering in the world deal with it bro.

  • This California High Speed Train is a great thing. Its a great thing for California and for the United States. Im 15 so i can't vote but if I had to i'd vote for Obama. And I'm glad he won.

IMO there should be one huge high-speed rail system for all of U.S., almost saying replacing Amtrak with HSR. And there should be a coast-to-coast maglev. And cities such as San Jose, which I read has crappy public transportation, should improve on that too. Anything to reduce cars, man. I'm up for it.

  • maglev is just way too expensive 100 billion dollars or more that just 2 much money to tax the people and borrow form other country that just dont hve now. but a small high speed rail around cal. is more reasonable.

  • (reply to kidduelists)

well whatever. At least we know this is a start. I have a feeling if this goes well, before you know high-speed trains will be everywhere in the U.S. Thats what I believe.

  • It looks amazing. It has a huge potential. If we could use the high speed trains for freight too, then it could revolutionize shipping methods and transportation usage. California is gettin' it done.

  • Never too late.... and we're happy that Prop 1a has been approved.

Think about all the flight depence on foreign oil and the time u have to stuck in the terminal... CA HSR sounds like a better alternative : )

  • Why are we so indecisive? Japan got on their ASSES and built the bullet train. This plan should have passed in the 94 but we californians were too in love with our cars at that time. We could have gotten this by now.

  • Well here is the problem...All the American people do is complain about high gas prices. I hear this on TV and talk radio. Nobody says lets have alternate forms of transport. Building highspeed rail, improving existing transit systems and intermodalism between air, train, intercity bus and local trainsit. And so far I have not heard any of the 2 presidential candidates address this issue! At least I haven't heard. Unfortunatly we have also lost the building spirit.

  • Hanniker

Actually Obama has said that we need to invest in alternative transportation including and most importantly High Speed Rail. Google it you'll find his exact words!

  • Will check it out .. Thanx

  • I would think that if a new transportation system like this would be viable, and profitable, a private company would have jumped on it a long time ago. Sounds like another Amtrak. California is a car-society, and we are broke. There are no state-run airline companies.

  • How are we going to build this thing when the state is broke? That just puts the state in a deeper dept. How are you going to convince Californians to give up their cars?

  • You realize an increase of .5 cents in sales tax will cover this project? That's right, .5 fucking cent will cover this project. Comes out to $9 avg per person a year. Even if you double it for cost overrun, $18 a year is nothing.

Trucking and Air industry have been lobbying against this project for over a decade now. that's the main problem.

  • prop 1A rules! vote yes!! let California lead the way!

  • I LOVE trains.. but holy shit.. 45 B when amtrak gets 1 bill for the whole system!?!??!

  • You, American, you say you great technology, then you copy all the Europeans, Europeans have been masters of the world for over 3000 years, and Europe will remain

  • I knew someone would say this eventually :P. When Amtrak tested the German ICE-1 and the Swedish X2000 on the Northeast Corridor in 1993 to see what technology they should have in their own high-speed train, a few criticized Amtrak for not purchasing a trainset for them self and spending a lot of money on the Acela Express :o.

  • Yeah? We'll were bigger in land area. And we have a more powerful military. And we aren't copying Europe. Listen you stupid European, get off your high horse. And Amtrak did test the ICE and the X2000. And Europe hasn't been the master of the world for 3000 years.

  • what if a major earthquake happens?

  • Earthquakes never upset Japan's high speed rail system. Advanced brakes can bring the trains to a stop quickly in response to earthquake sensors. Same goes for Taiwan High Speed Rail, which uses Japan's Shinkansen technology due to earthquake concerns.

  • VOTE YES PROP 1A If you want this for California. WE CAN ACHIEVE this! This is the future. Don't let California fall behind on technology like the rest of the United States has. The high speed rail system will revolutionize California.

  • Marked it down for fun!? Naysaying??!! Because I didn't jump on the bandwagon and had questions that should be considered? Yeah, I've noticed the trend of markings and comments here, one's either on board, with all the hype, or not allowed to analyze and question. You're only making it more difficult to get people to believe you with biased attitude like that.

  • Let me take over.

Think about this for a moment. High-speed trains don't burn petrol, they run on electricity, which have many diverse sources here in California: hydro, solar, wind, nuclear, etc.

If you watched carefully, the video also listed Asia and Europe as adopters of HSR. There's a reason why their emissions-per-capita is much lower than ours (the US is ~2x that of Japan and Germany, HSR pioneers)

And don't talk about bias; you immediately derided this video as "too much propaganda."

  • Magnets? What? No dude, it's SWSR (Steel Wheel Steel Rail).

  • Did you mark my comment down because I was wrong about magnets? All my other concerns were illegitimate or worthless in comparison to this mistake?

In any case, what about magnets? Isn't that a question worth considering as well? Do other high speed rail trains use magnets or steel? Why?

  • I marked it down for fun...and because your previous comment amounts to nothing more than naysaying.

  • We WILL get HSR in all major cities and states across the U.S including and begining with California IF!! IF you vote *YES* on Proposition 1A and vote for Barack Obama. Barack Obama has shown COMPLETE support for building National HSR Infrastructure! Joe Biden is a DAILY Amtrak rider and Supports rail travel 100%. These two will get these projects built!

As Opposed to John MCcain who is a well known "Train Hater".

  • My Fellow Californians,

We can make this happen...but you have to VOTE YES on Proposition 1A in NOVEMBER, 4 2008!!!!

  • As much as Californians want High Speed Rail...I hope it happens soon. Not JUST for California, but for America as a whole. Look at other countries that have HSR:

Japan - The size of California.

South Korea - About the same size as Minnesota.

Spain - Slightly more than twice the size of Oregon.

France - slightly less than double the size of Colorado.

Taiwan - Slightly larger than the states of Maryland & Delaware combined.

Think about it...THOUSANDS of American jobs!

  • Should go all the way to Portland! That would be perfect, maybe even up to Seattle, I-5 can be horrendous sometimes. These people sure have a hard-on for California, lol, they only say "California" every other word.

  • There's another plan for Vancouver, BC to Portland, OR. Once both of those are in place, a connection may be possible.

  • This has to be in Train Simulator 2009

  • As a California resident with two cars (and an SUV), I would love to have an option to get back and forth to San Francisco and San Diego without having to use my car. I generally make a couple of cross-state trips a year, and there is no convenient train alternative right now (Amtrak takes a full DAY to go from one end of the state to the other).

  • The state of California is eyeing France's high speed train for a planned link between San Franciso and San Diego. State of California sent a delegation to France to study the fast train programme,

France's electrically-powered fast trains have been operating since 1981, daily reaching speeds of 320 kph over some 1,600 kilometers (1,000 miles) of track.

France's TGV set a new world speed record for a train on rails, at 357.2 miles per hour.

  • I NEED THIS IN MY LIFLE

  • When oh when will American politicians acknowledge the success of HSR in Europe, particularly in France and Germany, and approve funds to build a modern transportation system that the U.S. needs and deserves, particularly in California?

If the French could build a complex and reliable system throughout France, which was started in the 1970s, then perhaps...perhaps California can catch up one day!

  • if it will help lower gas prices, i'm all for it. :P

  • they can lower the gas price for all i care. i will still vote yes on PROP 1A!

  • Living in the transit-oriented province of British Columbia I declare that to be either A) Awesome sarcasm or; B) The most douchebag-ish response to mass transportation I've ever seen in my entire life.

Mass transport like this is needed in ALL major parts of the world, ESPECIALLY California...

  • LatteLiberal

This has to be one of the STUPIDEST comments I've EVER heard concerning HSR! You've got to be joking right? I don't think you are. I would give up my brand new SUV up for this system to be built!

  • One question,

    "When's the groudbreaking ceremony?!"

    Let's git 'er done!!!

  • This will never get build. The big Oil Tycoons whom own your azzes will not alow this!

  • they're ok with it. population growth is way too fast, and people aren't just going to stop buying cars soon, unfortunately. plus, it's too popular and beneficial for them to strike it down.

and write better. that was pathetic. "whom own"??

  • Why in the world does the system not extend to places such as Shasta county, or Humboldt county? And why does the route from SF to Sacramento goes down to San Jose before going up instead of going through the Bay Bridge?

  • I'd imagine a later phase should go up to Shasta. Right now the new Bay Bridge is being built (the existing one couldn't handle the high speed trains that well anyways). Write to the politicians in Sacramento maybe a future line through Marysville following 99 would be badass.

  • Who knows? But if it proves to be as effective as they plan, they might extend it up there.

It would make sense, if you ask me.

  • "You know, a town with money is sort of like a mule with a spinning wheel. No one knows how he got it, and danged if he knows how to use it!" -Lyle Lanly

  • A lot of people tend to underestimate the power of Tourism when it comes to high speed trains... who wouldnt want to hop from Vegas to Hollywood to the Amherst Castle withing a few hours... that would be sweet saves me a load of money in plane tickets.

I know the state is in debt but I would pay a few tax dollars for something like this.

  • I have to travel to LAX everyday from Orange county this would be a good system I would do it.

  • Amazing! I got back from Japan 2 years ago and wondered why the hell we dont have this system here. I designed one for California, and this looks just like it. We needed this 10 years ago! Save us a ton of money long term in highway expansions. Lets pave the way for high speed rail in this country!

  • if anyone has driven on I-5, Highway 99, or even the 152 thru Pacheco Pass will know that this will be a huge benefit to Californians... it will kill the new trend of Express Jet... but the way California is geographically laid out, it is the most logical solution to our transportation issues (time saving and economics of maintaining the roads)

  • how would you know? they've never been given a proper opportunity to drop the keys. I live in LA, and the bus systems are garbage and the subways don't go to any important stations. This could change everything!

  • The reason why no one uses buses here is because buses are dependent on TRAFFIC. Next year I'll be living with my mom because of money probs. I looked online... it said by bus, it would take me 2 1/2 to THREE HOURS EACH WAY to get to my university. It takes thirty minutes to get to my school by car (1 hour with traffic). I don't wanna spend SIX hours per day traveling. I love PT, I only took the subway in London and I did only take the cable buses when I lived in SF. PT in LA just sucks ass.

  • That's definitely one of the most ignorant comments I've seen in a long time. I live in south San Jose but am attending UCSD. Being able to effectively and efficiently commute between the two cities in 3 hours is one of the best perks this system could provide. People here drive because our public transportation system is absolute trash.

  • Are you for HSR or against it. Your comment is not clear.

    HSR rocks!

  • Totally for it, and for local transportation as well.

  • AMEN! HSR ROCKS

  • newarknation calm down.. im FOR the new system, im just saying the current set up is slow and inefficient. for your information i DO use the vta system, and have been taking the trains to downtown san jose, where i work for the past year and half. seriously mate, ctfd and dont pick fights.

  • I would like to suggest an area of the train to hold peoples vespas and other motorcycles which would also reduce car using with their gas mileage and adding to the traveling ability of the people that use the trains to get around.

Wouldnt that be sweet??? cause motorcycles got sweet ass gas mileage!

  • They'll probably have some sort of cargo space for people's bikes and baggage, especially on inter-metro area lines like LA-Anaheim

This is gonna rock when its done. HSR FTW (finally)

  • LA to SF in 2.5 hours? *swoon* I heart you, nonexistent high-speed train. I hope this actually gets built!

  • BosWash seems like the most obvious choice if you look at a population density map (in fact it makes TOO MUCH sense). Don't they have a horrible amtrak system there? Why don't they built a 30 billion dollars HSR line there? A maglev one.

  • 1 maglev

    2 solar powered

    3 now!

  • Get educated about High Speed Rail! Visit one of the many blogs at: cahsr(dot)blogspot(dot)com

  • Vote for Obama and you'll get that money.

  • The Federal government isn't much better off than the CA government. Where will they get the money. Unfortunately, neither Obama nor anyone else can make money out of nothing. And if they just print the money, the value of the money drops. The Euro is getting quite valuable compared to the dollar.

  • Hey your back huh? Quit your whining or we will never progress as a country! You will simply say no to this project no matter what so just vote no in November and let everyone else decide for themselves! You do know that the asphalt they use to make roads is made from oil right? How much are more roads gonna' cost us and then to repair them in the future? Do you have another solution to mass transportation? Let us know about it! Is it do nothing and let big oil rape us?

  • OK, the solution to the oil problem: As a means of providing electric power, we need nuclear plants.

The solution to transportation in CA is not a train. That would only solve the problem of going from SF or Sac to LA or SD

  • Have you thought that when HSR is successfull and it will be, that the whole state will have lines spurring to all populated areas! Then maybe we can get all transportation options at the stations and or clean car rentals next to the station. Their are other clean renewable fuels they (Oil & Fuel companies) don't want to give to us. Nuclear is not the answer, it would be usefull only temporarily. If this can be used at least to get to work that would cut our fuel consumption dramatically!

  • It would be good to have other clean sources of energy for cars, as you mention. Perhaps electric cars, powered by electricity from nuclear plants. What do you think of nuclear? It would be clean and quite safe.

  • No I don't think nuclear is safe at all. It would give us the energy we need but nuclear is dangerous and the waste it creates wether on earth or in space it is toxic for thousands of years into the future! Although I am no scientist I know that electric cars running on free energy is possible. It has been for decades, it just hasn't been released to the public. I think it's time these technology's be taken advantage of. But your way of thinking in saying no to this is the worst thing we can do!

  • I see. I don't think nuclear is really that dangerous. And I think the waste can be recycled. But think of all the waste in terms of pollution that comes from fossil fuels. I think nuclear would be much cleaner.

I'm interested in hearing about this free energy you're talking about. What exactly is it? What do you mean?

  • What do you mean by "electric cars running on free energy," DaaYay?

  • Nuclear makes good sense for the USA. But regardless of that HSR uses far less oil than cars or airplanes (because it's electric and that's more efficient).

  • Yes, it would use less oil. But it there would still need to be a source for the electricity. But you're right. If the people rode the train instead of driving, far less oil would be used. The problem is that the train is extremely expensive and I don't know if it would decrease people's driving enough to make the expense worth it, especially given that California is practically bankrupt.

It would be nice to have a train, though. Very useful for many people, probably.

  • They mention here that it would be significantly cheaper than expanding the interstates or airports. Now I don't know if that's true but I do have a very strong sense that people are far more forgiving of interstate/airport expenditures (they tend to be invisible) than rail, simply because rail is not recognized as a necessity even though it's an excellent substitute.

  • You make a good point. Most of us probably don't even notice some of the big expenditures except when they are for something unusual such as HSR.I do think it would be nice to have, and may be something we should continue to look into for the future. But given the current fiscal state of the CA government, I think it would be wise to vote no this Nov, especially since it is a bond measure that may take nearly twice face value to pay off.

  • In my city they're spending under a billion just to fix a retarded interchange that's beyond hope as it is... HSR would in the long run be cheaper especially for inter-city travel like LA-SF, improvements on BART would be great in the Bay Area. A lot of choices have already set us back in CA, its time to move ahead. Its also an alternate source of revenue... at some point it'll mean less gas-tax revenue as well though. Future growth depends on some ideas and decisions now.

  • AMEN!!!

  • i see a smart voter
