this is amazing they did a good job. i love theater and love doing it so that had to be hard to do. in time warp all being on time that takes so much time and coordination. so i applaud all of you!
I would have to say that he performed as amazingly as Tim Curry did. Most of you didn't actually see all of the performance, I did. It was amazing. I would have to say that it's better than the original... But I will always love Tim Curry.
Scotty has always been a great, solid performer. He, like all good stage artists, puts his own spin on a role, to make it a bit his own. Sometimes people forget to take that into consideration, especially with something so iconically famous as RHPS, but even Tim Curry had to make artistic choices for the role that worked for him as he created the original version of the character; when Anthony Head played Frank, he made some different choices. It doesn't make it wrong or bad, just different.
I imagine this is one of those times when, as in any live theatre event, "you just had to be there". I try to avoid watching taped live performances because you lose so much due to the medium. I imagine if you were sitting in the theatre, it would come off quite nicely indeed. Of course, with a role like Frank, set firmly in our (sub?)cultural memory, 30% will love it, 30% will despise it as a deviation from the sacred original and the remaining 40% won't give a damn. I guess I'm in the 40%.
OK. The voice on this guy is amazing and powerful. But it stops there. What is up with the gestures, his costume and the skipping? That is not Frank-N-Furter. You may knock it off as 'his interpretation' of the role but this production looks like it was staged for a church benefit. Nuff said.
really powerful voice ... too stagey, you don't need a gesture for everything. tim curry is still the best. good effort, great ensemble (i have to disagree with comment below). I did like some of the blocking. very un-sexual, because it tried too hard to be sexy. frank-n-furter should exude sex, without having to try.
There's bad and good here. He's loud, original & sounds good. Finally an energetic live performer! Most of the other perfs on youtube are positively lethargic. A bit butch, and the camp is too affected - just play the role honey! I also think a performer like that deserves a MUCH better outfit - cape shouldn't be better than costume. I think this is part of that new movement to make Frank butch and more audience friendly, like the NY revival. But watching you is exciting man - keep it up!
i didnt like this. frank was waaaay to butch with his voice and agression, but his movements were waaay too camp, the campness and aggressiveness didnt work well together.
I really like this Frank... almost every time I see a performance of the Rocky Horror Show, I always wind up thinking, "Argh, I'm reeeeally missing Tim Curry right about now." But this guy is great! A lot of Franks sound so wimpy or something... but his voice is strong, deep, and SEXY! To the young man playing Frank - kudos on a job well done, whoever you are! :)
