I went to this concert and was right above the light and sound booth. It was sooooo go we went up to Boulder to see them the next night to at the CU Event center!
I have the Concert poster advertising this concert... What I like is that on the pic it says Tickets Available. It's framed and sits in my office. I've never got it appraised but I'm sure you can't put a price on history.
I agree @ Ronbo710....this is when music really matter....the passion, the raw energy, the the revolutionary feel and spirit of the music, the fog, helicopters and lighting of this particular show is unprecedented....I remember distinctly seeing a few clips of this concert on mtv back in the '80s (I saw the entire red rocks concert later) and you could feel that this was their finest moment, that after this show they were on their way to being mega-superstars.
U2 has errr, umm, like, always been bigger than life, what's called 'music' today is so 'fucked up' that when people hear real music and expression like this, they have no clue what it is, they can't relate to it, this is timeless, today 99.99999 % is here today-gone tommorrow in the disposable society we live in, truly indeed music such as performed live by U2 here does stand the test of time, it's tried in fire, cast in blood sweat tears and from events much bigger than even the band itself
This concert changed my life. I only knew U2 from the "Pride" video and the Unforgettable fire album. Once I started buying the 3 previous albums I fell in love with them. After I got the Under a blood red sky cassete and Video I became a U2 freak. I play electric guitar at my church and my 2 guitars I use are a Gibson Red Explorer and a Black 70's strat. Just like the one at Red Rocks. This concert definitely had divine intervention.
What a lot of people don't remember is that most of the radio stations had reported that the show was cancelled due to rain, then KBCO announced that it was still on. That confusion meant that a lot of people didn't go -- which is why RR was only about half full. They had a make-up show in Boulder the next day -- so it ended up being a 2-for-1 for those of us who made it to RR.

Still remember when I first saw this video, drove 41 miles from school to my parents house, did not have cable tv at my apartment. Arrived at two Oclock in the morning and turned on MTV and it was if an awakening in me took place. Must have waited for the top of the hour to see the video over and over again. Re examine my life from pure memory from the time I was six years old to the present... and I knew.
I saw them here in Atlanta shortly after this. When the VHS of Red Rocks came out, I snatched it and watched it REPEATEDLY !! So spirtiual, it reminded me of Stone Henge with a Christian twist to it. The mist & fog just topped it all off perfectly !
This video is PERFECT! I have seen many bands at Red Rocks... The Clash, Billy Idol, Iggy Pop, Johnny Rotten and PIL, Oingo Boingo... but, due to a misunderstanding, this is the one show I MISSED! I KICK myself when I watch this video at home... many of my friends I see at this show... and I am not there. I have often wondered about the many people that saw this show, and what they saw. Thank you so much for posting this!
for forasec ... its the first release on dvd as such the sound quality is far better than vhs cassette. The key difference is that its the entire live show minus "i fall down" during which there was apparently a technical malfunction.
@u2control But Marty if you go back in time you must not change anything. A significant change in the fabric of time will cause it to rip. Meaning you might have never been born. - Back to the Future haha XD
Great footage! Adam & Edge with heads of hair. I was only 1 year old when they did this. My friend met Bono last week in a restaurant in Dublin. Said he was very charming!

I always wonder whatever became of that beautiful young lady Bono danced with.
She sure has one hell of a memory to carry around with her.

I saw U2 in Kansas City in 1983 - three days after their concert/movie at Red Rocks in 1983. It was like this. It was a religious experience.

I like the comment about how the weather was wet and felt like Ireland. There's nothing quite like these kinds of shows -- once in a lifetime!
