Mike Judge morphed from a comic creator to a Prophet with Idiocracy. Easily the most horrifying "comedy" I've ever seen. And if you'll look at today's USA through that prism, you'll probably notice that not a day goes by without observing some scene -- a TV commercial, a "reality" show, someone at Wal-Mart -- that could very well be an excerpt from Idiocracy. Is there ever an episode of "America's Funniest Home Videos" that doesn't cop a scene from "Ow, My Balls!"? (Brought to you by Carl Jr.)
pretty much it's like this. any one of you reading this, try to crack a subtle joke to anyone you see and i guaran-fucking-tee only a low percentage will at least smirk
Does anyone else find it ironic that there are SIX microphones and yet you can barely hear him with the volume at max? They must be for comical purposes only.
It hit too close to home for the distributor. They didnt want to offend any of the stupid people in this country. That, in itself, is dumb, because the joke is over their heads.
In the trial scene in the film, I just thought the prosecution's arguments to convict him were absolutely stunning in their brilliance.
Prosecution: "I object, your honor".
Judge: "Whut 'r u objectifyin' on?
Pros: Well, just look at 'im. All that fag talk, and he doesn't even have a tatoo. (crowd guffaws). -And we got all this, like, evidence he didn't pay his hospital bill. Mean, you gotta be shittin' me. The judge should be like, -GUILTY! Peace. (hi-5s all around)
@dirrtysteve89 Same here. Market researchers just tested it with average audiences, the same as Office Space. My kids and their cousins have the funniest lines memorized. My son has the red stapler on his desk at work. It's strange because it's so obvious and hilarious to us but most people don't appreciate the humor in his movies. Intelligence and sense of humor are related genetic traits. Researchers found that babies who laugh often are more intelligent. Hey, we can't help it!
One of my favorite parts of the movie is when they introduce the secretary of education and he's looking into a glass ball, then he looks up all cross eyed. Genius.
It should be no shock that a movie slamming corporatism controlling society and the government would not be promoted by corporate Hollywood. Judge is a prophet right there with George Carlin...watch Carlin on the American Dream here on YouTube...same message.
My teacher played this in class this week , and it was so ironic to me because I left the class and seen people act just as stupid as the people on the screen . Looks like those 500 years have already passed .
Mike Judge will one day be looked upon as a misunderstood genius. Office Space and Idiocracy...films of satire that are almost as painful to watch as it is funny. Truth hurts.
The movie Idiocracy is the greatest movie revelation of our time. Why didn't it do well at the box office? We live in this Idiocracy, so it comes off as just daily American life.
idiocracy,v for vendetta, terminator movies, they live,1984,the network, manchurian canidate are some of the most important movies of all time. The world should take a look at these films, cuz we are getting there. welcome to costco i love you
I don't care what ANYBODY says this story line to this is one of the best I have ever seen! I know its suppose to be a fictional comedy but if you look around its not to far in the future and it will be a reality!
Jackass 3D plays today 10/11/2010 at the Museum of Modern Arts. We are there we are living in an Idiocracy. So when you are asked when it first was clear that we were going this way you can say when Jackass 3D was considered art on 10/11/2010.
Mike Judge is a genius. This film is a work of art. the message is a warning, but is so funny. You can watch this DVD again and again and still catch details you missed before. filled with memorable one liners, you must see this to appreciate it.
@chris4delaware2010 I have no clue. I tend not to "judge" (no pun intended) people by their political choices. Those things are rooted in deep complicated experiences, and dont always mean something anyway. I think hes definitely somewhat conservative, regardless of party. He could be liberal, but liberals tend to get offended at anything that resembles themselves.
It cracks me up how retards don't get the film and say its "stupid" which is ironic because " yes, yes it is stupid" The same people didn't get Dumb and Dumber and what made it different from its subsequent ripoffs.
"Joe and Rita had three children, the three smartest kids in the world. Vice President Frito took 8 wives and had a total of 32 kids. Thirty-two of the dumbest kids ever to walk the Earth."
did this movie seem alot of Twain to itto anyone else? at times it reminded me of " a conneticut yankee in king authur's court", and at others like "puddn' head wilson"
besides that its possibly my favorite movie of all time .
Mike, dont ever sell yourself short. This movie is in my top 5 all time favorites. Hillarious, original, great script, etc. Botttom line,if you havent caught this film, its a MUST see.
Not a day goes by that I see something stupid enough to be a scene from this movie, at which point we all look at each other and in tandem, say "Idiocracy" and start laughing.
I didn't even know idiocracy was out until I saw it on cable. It's a brilliantly written film and I think will become a cult classic like Office Space, but it's not as good a film for one reason: Luke Wilson. Luke Wilson just doesn't cut the mustard as a leading man. He's a character actor who can do a decent job playing supporting roles, but he doesn't have the charisma to play the lead. Too bad, because in many ways Idiocracy is an important film.
Idiocracy IS happening. I see it in my own life. I'm 26, and my friend from high school is the exact same age. Her IQ has been tested at 85 and she has 5 kids already and no plans to start using birth control. My IQ is 165 and I'm still deciding whether having a child is the right course for my life.
@StinkadoodlePie They even touch on it in the movie. They ask "Did Einstein walk around thinking everyone else was a dumb @__s all day." Probably.
This movie is the only thing that has made me feel anything like guilt over being transsexual. Like I ought to have a biological kid for the sake of humanity.
@BrendaQG Well don't feel guilty, because you're changing society in your own way! You're opening people's minds to the idea that it's okay to pursue whatever makes them happy and opening the door for other transexuals to feel free and transition! =)
Idiocracy is UNEVEN, it goes from GENIUS during the first 20 minutes to almost substandardly dull for the conclusion... Still, the first half is very damn hilarious and chilling when you realize that it's NOT the future, it's already happened, the future part is a smokescreen to mask the cutting satire of our times. I read that Judge is possibly returning to Beavis & Butthead. Weird.
And Fox fucks up on the marketing again...I'm sorry Mike, but I've shown some of my friends the movie and they thought it was brilliant, hilarious, and deeply disturbing at the same time.
Idiocracy is hillarious. These guys did a great job of predicting the future... The latest census research shows just how Idocracy will become a reality:

@chuck3377 OKay, but, well, I was just telling you what was shown in a study when I said that average IQs are rising. There are always bound to be generation gaps, though, and an omnipresent idiocy throughout the ages.
@chuck3377 Also, regarding your comment about us hurling at 3000mph, I'm not sure about whether that is a figure of speech or your failing to realize I was being sarcastic.
The first and last scenes are rumored to be what turned off the Hollywitz playas, and the black president probably didn't help the movie even though this was pre-Soeto.
Opening scenes, which of course set the theme, make eugenics look good, and the "Time Mashine" mocks the surreal, ever-expanding denazification themes in our jewish-controlled mass-media.
If you came to earth from another galaxy, and got all your info from tv, you'd think Hitler or his henchmen were still alive and busy.
i went to Idiocracy in the theater with a couple idiots. i was amazed that someone finally made a movie about what it feels like to live my life. i felt incredibly relief that there might be some hope for the human race after all. i said the movie was low-budget, but a stroke of GENIUS. i asked my idiot friends if they felt similar. they said they didn't like the movie. "It was dumb." i stood in the parking lot staring at them with amazement at the PERFECT parallel. i love/live this movie.
Probably because it hit close to home to them. In fact I'd bet that has something to do with why it didn't do well at the box office either. People will reject uncomfortable truths. Sometimes they're not even aware of it and it works at a subconscious level. Ignorance is bliss to most people.
One thing I disagree with in this movie... it won't take 500 years for it to get to that point. We're already half way there.
Yup. Tru dat. You have to really sit down and watch Mike Judge's movies. I like everything he does, but even for me Idiocracy was so different that I had to rewind it a few times to get into it, now I think it's brilliant.

i went to Idiocracy in the theater with a couple idiots. i was amazed that someone finally made a movie about what it feels like to live my life. i felt incredibly relief that there might be some hope for the human race after all. i said the movie was low-budget, but a stroke of GENIUS. i asked my idiot friends if they felt similar. they said they didn't like the movie. "It was dumb." i stood in the parking lot staring at them with amazement at the PERFECT parallel. i love/live this movie.

@synrgii no... No one lives this movie.

Idiocracy is exaggerated reality. Dumb people can't laugh at themselves. I hope it grows as an underground classic.

Office Space is one of my favorite movies ever. It is so quotable.
Movies like this are really cult classics. Much better than box office smashes.

Yup. Tru dat. You have to really sit down and watch Mike Judge's movies. I like everything he does, but even for me Idiocracy was so different that I had to rewind it a few times to get into it, now I think it's brilliant.
