Considering this is a bbc publication i feel cheated that they represent a sport in such bad light and in a one sided manner when it involves so much hard work, dedication and team work more so than most other sports that are shoved down our necks on their channels, paying a license fee for this uneducated and unchangeable opinion is pointless and i bet he is still mindless to mma which in itself incorporates many good aspects of boxing...let alone countless other fantastic martial/combat arts.

mma will never die as a high school wrestler i was thrilled to see the basics of wrestler being use as a strong foundation of some fighters styles. and the people that say "when they go to the ground it's gay" those people say that because they don't understand what's going on and you are unable to see some of the complicated submission moves they are trying to throw on each other. try and fight a pro wrestler you may think you're rollin around, next thing you know your arm is broken

MMA is clearly safer than boxing. In boxing, pretty much all they will do is hit each other in the head. MMA has infinetly more possibilites. It is problably going to hurt just as much as a boxing match, but because there are other ways of defeating the opponent then knocking him out it is a lot safer.

Eye gouging, strikes to the groin area, back of head, spine, obey the ref at all times, no small joint manipulation, no kicks or knees to downed opponent (sometimes), no fish hooking, yada yada...

MMA is not freefighting, pankration or vale tudo. It's a subset of those designed specifically to prevent serious damage. Unlike boxing, the rules were not implemented for entertainment, sports or estethics, but purely for protection of the fighters so to legalize a highly misunderstood sport.
