  • Y0Me85wpnKw watch.

  • Why put such a bad lens on such an expensive camera ?

  • @SuperMangn haha this lens is the best glass for the money by far. I have both this and the 1.4 which is what... 250$ more if im not mistaken and they are hard to differentiate at medium aperture. Just a bit more fringing in the wide open of the 1.8

  • @ncole116 It has very bad color quality, the 1.4 is a far better color and so has the 35mm f 2. Actually the 35mm f 2 which does not cost much more makes the 50mm 1.8 look very bad.

  • happy family 4 sure i want a family on day

  • god thats really sharp and its such a cheap lens definitly going to get one

  • What ISO setting do you use?

  • Anyone have any advise on building a complete/full profile? I'm 15, and a local developing photographer here in Central Oregon. Not sure how to go about presenting my work, and services in an acceptable and somewhat professional way either to be hired for a shoot, or a Company. (I.E. Gettiy images) Any advise would be appreciated!

    ~ :D

  • Cute family. Bless you!

  • my personal opinion is that the t2i/t3i is better, only because it has the same video capabilities, but its half the price.

    a hacked gh1 beats the 7d, t2i, t3i on VIDEO. a gh1 is around 400, a 7d is around 1200...

  • @TheBlackBoxKing its not so much about the body but about the lenses you can use and some of the EF lenses are real game changers. I prefer the robustness of the 7D and my 1D4 over the 60D (though I like the swivel screen) and the overly plasticy cheap feeling rebels.

  • @TheBlackBoxKing I think the 7d will still beat a GH1 with a GOOD lens... Also the 7d offers useful video options that the t2i does not. 7D body alone - 1599$ not 1200

  • my plan was to become a millionaire but i think i'll go with the have a pretty attractive wife, some adorable kids, and live next to the beach one, probably be more happy that way

  • hey nice footage may i asked wat settings u did to upload to youtube because it loooks so clear and clean the quality of it im haveing trouble uploading my canon 5d quality is not has good

  • @TheLifestyleflashy I used imovie and whatever the default youtube upload setting were. Honestly I'm surprised at how many hits this little slice of my family life seems to be generating. Cool that it is though.

  • @fingered You have a cute family lol. wish you the best. though the image looks cool too.

  • @fingered The DSLR mania has alot of us youtubers who are shooting with similar cameras taking a look at what others are doing because we're interested in learning more shooting techniques. I shoot with a Canon 60d and Im interested in purchasing a 7D so that is what brought me here.

  • wonderful kids

  • Beautiful kids!

  • Quality is great. I'm looking to get a canon 7D soon.

  • While I watched the video I focused on your nice family rather than the video quality!

  • so cute

  • lol i bet the mum and dad made a porn vid that night since thats when they first got it xD

  • Compare this to old VHS camcorders of yore. :')

  • Accent surprised me at the end.

  • Its raw footage.

  • did you have to edit this video or is this raw footage?

  • finally some answers to my 7d questions! thanks everyone for sharing info...lets shrink the sea of idiots around us by educating all. SO, are we sure that we can get 45min on 8gb card then? I need to vid a football game soon...thanks

  • @kurtschoemig Probably not. Although the 7D shoots compressed h264 video, you're still looking at around 300megs a minute or so for HD. Professional uncompressed raw footage is around 1 gig a minute, so the CANON 7D is compressing that by about 1/3rd. Canon recommends that you get a card that can read/write at least 8megs a second. You might be able to cram a full 45minutes if you shoot in VGA SD move (640x480)

  • Your daughter is so cute and lovely....Happy family.

PS: It seems hard to control the focus because of the shallow depth of field.

  • dam thats a fine quality

  • what frame rate, fstop and shutter speed did you use?

  • @Rolocosta 24fps, f/1.8 and whatever shutter speed the camera calculated was necessary at the time.

  • @fingered you can't really talk about shutter speeds in video;the mirror is basically locked up.

P.S. Congratz on you 7D! Are you actually going on film with it or photography is still the main reason for the purchase?:D

  • Very nice video.. i have a 60d and i love it.. its an awesome cam.. must get this lens..

  • @Rolocosta arguably best IQ bang for buck in the Canon glass lineup.

  • im with macwarmedia 100% i have the t2i the 7d and the 5d mark ii and the t2i and 7d are exactly the same as far as video mode. in photo mode the only diffrence is shutter speed and is better at iso over 400. the 5d is the ultimate for video its better than both but unless your doing professional material there is no diffrence or purpose in spending that kind of money for the 5d or the 7d for that matter. t2i is perfect for video

  • Hi, what kind of lens did you used? And the movie rec size; is it 1920 1080 24 or 30?

  • @juanpabloaguimar1 50 1.8, the plastic fantastic. I like to use 24 since it uses less memory, its easier to convert between NTSC and PAL and give it the cinematic look since 24fps is what movies use.

  • @4alpha7kilo

    @poopypantypoop

    @speedkiller11

    I got a canon sx30is

its okay i guess, but i reccomend it to any young buyers who want a canon.

  • your kids are the cutest thing ever ^^

  • @CaveinLee If you don´t have so much money, get a canon 550D(Rebel T2i).It has also a 24fps mode with full HD and a mic input channel :D

  • @fingered what did you use for you memory source I know the file size limits the video time how do you compensate for longer shoots of video?

  • i have this on my 60D. sweet combo!!

  • and i love watching a wonderful family like yours!

  • Beautiful family!!!

  • aw <3 :)

  • Happy Family! Nice video...

  • handeld stabilization and manual focus is tuff with the 50mm 1.8 good job

i have the t2i it shoots well but i should have got the 60d for that swivel screen

one lense i found that works great for vids is the 10-20mm sigma less depth of field but way easier to focus and stabilize

  • @XjamBonBiLLX I'd rather go for the t2i/550d and a good lens, rather than the 60d and a worse lens.

  • @LooperNor why ? the 60d dosent have the same picture quality as a 7d or t2i?

  • @XjamBonBiLLX It's pretty much similar.

If you're on a budget I'd say you're better off getting a T2i and a better lens than a 60D and a sub-par lens. A better lens is always gonna do more good for you than a better camera, at least when we're talking in this range.

Unless of course you really really really want the swivel screen right now, in which case you can of course get the 60D and a worse lens, and then get a better lens later.

  • @LooperNor i allready have good lenses and the t2i maybe ill switch the t2i for the 60d

  • @XjamBonBiLLX If it is just the filming you care for you wont notice any important improvement by using the 550D, 60D or 7D from what I know.

What makes the 60D pretty interesting is the swifty tilty screen and probably the improved micro-settings.

So in that case the 60D really is the way to go. Just considering the photography-part in my opinion the 60D is neither fish nor meat.

  • @LooperNor improved micro-settings ? thanks il check it out

  • the baby girl is adorable <3

  • you never use the auto focus for video its absolutely pointless..if ur serious bout makin vids on a dslr ur prob guna need a rig with follow focus and practice ur ass off with it. hand holdin is not the way to go...plus if u search ebay u can get a proaim rig with follow focus and matte box for like 800 dollars..well worth it

  • U have a happy family man

  • i'm 17 and I want this camera too :( got the 500D though..

  • do you use the microphone of the camera?

  • @hunpuntoes yes

  • @fingered what microphone did you use?

  • awwsome

  • i really really really want this camera... and im only 14... gahh this is so cool. its so expensive tho. :/

  • @CaveinLee the 60D will be a fine camera that is a big step above the entry rebel line but will kill the bank less. I'd look at that one if budget was a primary issue. That said, just about all big camera brand players have nice DSLR offerings with 1080p HD video at 24fps so give the whole field a look. Having nice gear is nice, actually using it a lot and thinking about what you are trying to do are more important.

  • @fingered

    look at the canon T2i

    its just as good

  • @fingered I want a camera for great stills and superb video... I'm looking at the 7D and 5d MKII, which one would you recommend in terms of both quality and value for money? Cheers :)

  • @mmaghfai both are great cameras so it depends on your budget and what you want to do. The 7D is great for long shooting with a much better autofocus system and the 5d2 is amazing for low light shooting. If it were me I would hold off a few months and get the 5d3 though the price will be even higher.

  • @CaveinLee Get a canon 550d. The video mode is probably as good as the 7D but capturing picture is not as good as the 7D. After all its half the price of the 7D and if you ever get to buy a Dslr camera DO NOT buy the kit lens, Seriously Do not get the kit lens. You better off just buy the body only and get 50mm f1.8 the kit lens are just the waist of money. Oh and don't buy the 60D, if you have money to buy the 60D you might as well save more money and get the 7D. Peace!!

  • @ClankyRochet

    THUMBS UP FOR GREAT TIPS!

  • @CaveinLee

yeh im 16 and i want this camera too:D

i will buy first the the camera and then the motorbike >:

  • @XactFilms or first the camera, then the first lens, the secound, a flash, a tripod, ... and someday the motorbike

  • @CaveinLee 14? goodluck getting any DSLR if your planning on getting your parents to buy it

BUT looking through the comment replies The people are COMPLETELY ignoring your age by saying get a 60D or a 550D because 60D is still about $1,100 without warrenty and 550d is $1,100 with warrenty

If video is a must a Nikon D5000, Canon 50D and Nikon D3100 are the cheapest $600-$850

but if you only want a DSLR to take pictures

    a Nikon D40,Canon 450D,Canon 1000D are between $450-$650

  • @CaveinLee Something you could consider buying as for if you can handle a slightly less frame rate (Continuous burst for Stills) and slightly worse ISO capabilities for lowlight situations. The most common "Entry Level" competator of the Canon 7D is the Canon T2i. The T2i is often refered to as the "Baby 7D" It shoots in full HD video, with selectable framerates that range from 24 all the way up to 60. You can go look up comparisons and such, but yeah. Wont break the bank so much for videography

  • @CaveinLee Dude, the 7D and T2i are virtually the same when it comes to the video. The 7D has a bigger bulkier body, built higher quality, but most of the additional expensive features it has are for the photo mode. I have the T2i and its OUTSTANDING.

  • Hi, did you use Manual focus or Automatic???

  • @krakadyll Manual.

  • @krakadyll you have to use manual unless youve got a USM lens otherwise the main sound you can hear is the camera focusing

  • Wonderful quality, but damn that 1.6x crop factor sucks. Seems like you are zoomed in all the time.

  • @joeyisfunny it's a 50mm lens...with a wider lens it's not so much of an issue - I haven't had any complaints about mine...

  • amazing! I actually just ordered the adapter kit so i can put this on my Sony NEX 5, cant wait, great video

  • Yep.. the 50mm F1.8 is a great lens for the price. I have one and I almost use it all the time.

  • How do you like this lens? I think it looks great. Any thoughts? I may get one.

  • @cybercab For the money, you can't go wrong with the 50mm 1.8. I also have the 50mm 1.2 but I still use my 1.8 when I want to pack light since it is as good as the 1.2 for sharpness and almost as good for bokeh at 1.8 and up at 1/4 the weight and size.

  • @fingered Excellent. Thanks. I've ordered it. Here's hoping!

  • How do you like this lens? I think it looks great. Any thoughts? I may get one.

  • How do you like that lens? I have a 7D and I hear the 50mm is a cheap lens but works better than the kit lens I got with the camera.

  • Got my T1i with the kit lens and still having second thoughts about getting this F1.8 50mm lens. Plan to play with the 18-55mm kit lens and see if I could get this effect. Your editing is just perfect with the iMovie - but I dont want to get a Mac just for the iMovie though :(

  • very heartwarming video. congrats.

  • WE ARE NOT GOING SAAAIILLLLLIINNNGGGGGGG!

  • so cool.the quality of this video is downright awesome!

i wanna buy a 550d with that lense.

u think its good for shooting shorts?

thank u and keep recording those memories my friend.

in a few years it will make you melancholic :)

  • you guys are such a cute family ha ha and the video looks great!

  • Beautifull lighted.

  • how long can you record in 1080p with this camera?

  • @felixbrix

An 8 Gig card will hold about 45 minutes of HD video. I've never shot that long, perhaps the longest was just over 4 minutes in one take.

  • @fingered

actually the maximum time of HD recording is 12 minutes, so enjoy recording your long interviews :P

  • @felixbrix 15 minutes shooting 1080p then right at 15 minutes you have to restart recording again...

  • @felixbrix max. 30 min., then you must start a new videofile

  • @felixbrix you can film 30minutes then you have to repress record button ;)

  • this is incredibly clear....the HD on the 7D looks great...not to mention the effect from the prime lens

  • Wow! great focus

  • FINGURED?????? LMFAO

  • great stuff, what is your work flow for uploading to youtube? codec and container?

  • @rubent100

I used iMovie to upload to Youtube. I rarely shoot video though, the files are too large, too hard to edit, and its hard enough to get good at shooting stills, any good videographer has my respect.

  • Hi, I'm new to DSLRs and I'm just wondering, if you can lower the aperture with the f1.8 lens that you're using, like f8 and lower. I was wondering if it's possible to get a wider depth of field with that lens... please and thank you.

  • @sonicballer8888 yes you can

  • Comment removed

  • would this video quality be better than the cannon Vixia HFS10 HD video camera

  • @paulio2293

That's a very good question! I would like to hear an answer to that aswell. :)

  • @richieb132007

    I have no idea, I don't have an HFS10.

  • @paulio2293 YES

  • How you liking the 1.8 on 7D? I just ordered mine.... i was unsure if i should have gotten the 1.4... hmmmm

  • Optically it was amazing for the money but I was not a fan of the build feel or focus method (at the front of the lens). I've had every single Canon EF system 50mm prime lens ever made and all are good. I currently have the original 50mm 1.8 with metal mount and better manual focus location and the 50mm 1.2 for real low light work. I traded in my 50 1.4 for the 1.2 and I am pleased with the upgrade.

  • @fingered wow that 1.2 is pricey MANNNNNN !

  • Good job.. difficult to maintain focus on actie subjects.... manula focus is the best option to prevent AF hunting. saying that with the 7D you can control the exposure (shutter and apature) manually in video mode. for best resutls with the 7D shoot with 1/50sec shutter speed for best film motion. The potential of the 7D and 5d mk2 with video is amazing.

    Rick

  • What are you talking about? There's no AF on the 7D, nor do you want AF for video.

These are professional cameras, not prosumer, and any professional knows there's no use for AF in the video world.

  • There is AF on the 7D in video, it is activated using the af button at back and uses the live view focusing software rather than the 19 point but it hunts a bit so not recommended for serious video work.

  • Haha. Maybe I wasn't clear enough: sure there's AF with Live View on the 7D - but you can't even consider it for video.

It doesn't just hunt, it resets and finds the sharpest picture - impossible even if you have the slightest movement on cam. The AF button is not there for video reasons, it's strictly to get a sharp frame for stills, or a reference point of focus BEFORE you hit the record button with video.

So again, AF is impractical and NOT an option whatsoever on the 7D. It just isn't.

  • It's such a relief to see you can still get a shallow Depth of Field with an aps-c sensor. I just bought my 7d today and started worrying about how it doesnt have a ff sensor

  • hi, was this the onboard mic?

  • Yes, this was the onboard mic. Its important to turn off IS on lenses with it when using the built in mic because you can hear the gyro.

  • the 50mm 1.8 doesn't have IS.. How did you turn it off?

  • When using a lens like the 17-55 2.8 IS for video, the IS actually works great at keeping a handheld video shot steady even when panning but the noise through the onboard mic is really noticeable.

  • I see, how did you get zero noise in such a low light. I get noise all over the place with my 50mm 1.8. Im shooting at 1600-2500 in low light, getting lots of noise.

  • still focusing :)...
