  • Not a fan of phased strings on Oxygene 2, the one handed playing technique of the main leads or any delay used on those leads. Everything else is super

  • This is amazing !! want to this cover to on my tyros 3 :) :) Greetings from Belgium , Albert

  • Hey Man, that´s really perfect ;))))

  • WoW ! ! !

  • awesome song!!

  • A very good cover! Bravo!

  • Added to my favourites. Very well played, sir.

  • die korg radias regein!!!!

  • The best music in the history of the 20th century,

This is my favourite. After that I pick Oxygene Part 6 and Oxygene Part 4.

  • hello. i would like to know how you sync the sounds modulations with the score of the song ? Are the modulations based on a fixed time or are they following your live performance ?

congratulations ! your covers are fantastic !

  • L'un des rares à jouer ce morceau parfaitement sans fausses notes !!! félicitations ;)

  • what patch is that on the M3 dude? :)

  • fantastic, 5 stars, getting me a korg radias tonight to go with the old nord stage ex 88

  • WOW! Rhis video is amazing!!! I really love jean michel jarre and your cover is just as impressive!

  • It sounds nothing like Eastenders theme :o)p

  • Пока это лучший кавер, что мне попадался. Отличное исполнение!

  • I prefer this cover to the original. Wonderful.

  • Dude congratulations, it sounds beautiful and really hard to distinguish with original jarre's version if you don't have it near to make a comparison.

  • Great job...fantastic cover!

  • amazing cover, I realised I don't have the original of this song but your cover, sound just as good, if not better :)

  • Superb cover Rune. Have just uploaded my version if you fancy a listen? :)

  • what instruments did you use when making this? The sounds are spot on.

    5 stars!!!!

  • Thanks. :-)

I used the Korg M3 (with Radias expansion) and the Korg Radias.

  • Doh! I noticed the credits at the end :]

  • Great works really.-..-.-congratulations.)(

  • really nice. i'm in the process of doing a cover of this too at the moment. will upload it soon... :)

  • Very very good. How long did you spend getting those sounds, they're pretty authentic.

  • @Zoolookuk

    Thanks. :-)

More than days, less than months. :o) Most of the sounds were made as I came to that part of the song, and adjustments and fine tuning of them took place as needed during the process of recording separate parts. So I have no idea how much time I spent on creating them as they are in this video.

But I think I spent more time rehearsing that main lead line. ;-)

  • Wow. Immediate goosebumps all over!

  • i simply think you rock.

  • Thank you. :-) Be sure to check out my other videos also. ;-)

  • Superb! :)

  • played very very well, very good, 5*****.

  • Thanks. :o)

  • Muito muito bom, os teclados são da melhor qualidade, a Korg arrebenta nos teclados.

  • I like Your Cover

  • awesome man!...fantastic.....you make it look so easy!....

  • 5***** Champ ! : )

    Greatings from Greece

  • What is M3? Thanks

  • @qasion The Korg M3 is the music synthesizer I play (the bottom keyboard). The keyboard on the top is a Korg Radias.

In addition to being a synth, the M3 contains a musical sequencer that allows me to record parts that I can't play live (due to a lack of hands) and send note signals to the M3's own tone generator or to the Radias.

  • perfect...

    5/5*****

  • Did you ever release info on some of the FX sounds used in the track? They sound like an LFO modulating a filter cutoff, then the rate of the LFO being adjusted.

If you would be prepared to share some of the details I would be really interested in learning more.

  • The effect is quite simple. On the Radias, I set up V. Patch 1 so that the modulation wheel controls LFO1's rate, and V. Patch 2 so that LFO1 controls the pitch of the sound.

The sound is a simple single-oscillator triangle wave. The pitch modulation by the LFO is constant - the only thing being varied is the LFO rate. A lowpass filter (fixed frequency, no keytrack) is added to soften the sound.

    That's about it. :-)

  • All I can say is that despite me having built various synths, I still can't play and I envy you soooo much!! GREAT stuff!!

  • Superb cover..!!! You got the sounds spot on and all the effects in the background, just perfect..!!

  • great job...

    5*****

  • Top rated from me: 10/10.

    Keep up the good work!

  • This is a top video - I like this track a lot

    - I don't know the M3 very well - but are some of the background effects samples or synthesized?

  • Thank you. :-)

There are no user samples (by me) in this song. Some of the sounds are based on the internal (ROM) samples in the M3.

But most of the sounds (including the wind swoosh and the background effects) are synthesized on the Korg Radias virtual analog synth as well as on the Radias expansion board in the M3. And some sounds (including both main lead sounds) are synthesized using the M3's internal sample-based PCM synthesis.

  • That is really good.

I hope you are one of the three!

(I just ordered a RADIAS and M3 pretty much on this video alone)

  • Oh, wow, maybe I should work for Korg instead of my software developer company, hehe. ;-) Good luck with your M3 and Radias. The Radias has been criticized for "dull" and "boring" sounds (and indeed most of the presets are), but once you get to program this little beast it has some very nice sounds in it.

BTW, one of the three what?

  • Didn't Jarre say something about rewarding the best 3 videos for "something special". I'm glad that he's watching all this stuff we do.

I'm quite chuffed that maybe (just maybe) he watched me play the laser harp, instead of the other way round.

Don't go telling me that the RADIAS is boring now that I got all excited about it :-)

  • Ah, yes, I believe he did say something like that. Oh, well, i DID get a little mention on his blog back in 2008 (my Equinoxe 7 video), so I'm quite happy with that.

Ha ha, no, the Radias is very exciting!! :-) I don't agree with those who said it was boring at all. And now that new official and un-official soundsets have been released it's a monster!

BTW, I've really enjoyed watching some of your videos, both the laser harp and your other projects and experiments.

  • I got my RADIAS and M3 last week. I'm really impressed with both of them (I just put an EXB-RADIAS in my M3 too).

I d/loaded your patches - they're great BTW. I'll be putting together a video of my laser harp with your sound.

Is there a way to load the RDL files into the EXB-RADIAS?

  • Congratulations on your new gear. :-)

Unfortunately there is no way to convert data between the RADIAS and EXB-RADIAS, other than manually going through the parameters (e.g. in the software editors).

I believe this is due to the structural differences between the two (a RADIAS program has 4 timbres and different effect structures, an EXB-RADIAS is a single timbre, but you can use 4 such programs in sequences and combis on the M3).

  • Wow...very well done!

  • makes me sigh :P another 5 stars!

  • I don't usually like cover versions, after listening to many really bad attempts, they get frustrating! This however, is really good, it's nearly as lavish as jarres' original. Congratulations!

  • The best musical resumption of Oxygene Part 2, really thanks !!! (I'm French)

  • Besides the great music the the first person view is 2nd to none . awesome job :-)

  • I own a M3 expanded and do you think getting the Radias rack is worth it???

  • I think so, yes. :-)

Of course you could get (or maybe you have it already) the EXB-Radias expansion, and it is definitely worth the money.

But I also think the Radias rack is even better because of all the knobs. Creating sounds on the Radias rack is fun! :-)

  • Thanks.

I own a 61 key though. So is the EXB-radias able to produce the same sounds as the rack?

I would think that the actual Radias rack has more features.

  • Just note that even though the 73- or 88-key versions of M3 can accomodate a Radias Rack into the keybed, there's no real integration there. You can plug both into the keybed, which means both will sound simultaneously when you play, or you can connect them via MIDI cables. The still are two separate synths with separate audio outputs, so even though it looks very cool to have them on the same keybed, they are still separate units.

  • Of course I don't know your needs or what gear you have, but I'd go for the Radias with the 49-key keybed. You can still detach it from the keybed and use only the rack, but it can be nice to have its own set of keys sometimes, and I don't know if keybed only for the Radias is available.

  • Good job.

  • Nice work!

  • Thank you. :-)

  • It sounds too good. I'm thinking you faked it. If you didn't then dam....

  • He he, thank you. I do have playback in the sense that the backing tracks are pre-recorded in the sequencer (don't have hands enough to play all those parts he he).

However the lead is not fake. It's really played live when I recorded the video. I do however admit that I didn't nail it on the first take. ;-)

  • Excelente, perfecto, (*****) me llego al alma. tiene el clima del original. Felicitaciones, Saludos

  • Hi,

your video was one of the reasons I bought the KORG M3. I've just posted a version of 'The Chauffeur' I recorded last night as a thank you ~ it's an amazing machine and I'm loving it!

    regards,

    Kieron.

  • excellent use of the RADIAS and M3. When are you going to start making some of your patches available? :)

    NICE JOB!

  • You're genius! Awesome!

    Stephan

  • Thanks for all the nice comments, everyone! :-)

  • Nice cover you play with M3, very good machine, I bought a PA 2x pro instead of M3, wonderfull korg +5 Peter30studio

  • Ideal Cover...

  • One of the best covers when I ever heard :D

    Greetings from Poland... :P

  • This is so good it just makes me laugh!

  • Thank you. ;-)

  • Perfect !!!

  • heyy do you have notes for it? If so were did you get them from?

  • Sorry, I don't have notes for it - it's all by ear. :-)

  • VERY GOOD 5/5

  • Have you a camera on youre head? :-D ?

  • Yep. :-)

  • lol love the question and answer :)

  • Main theme with right hand there is awesom! I've seen Jarre doing this live several times, and he uses both hands for that :)

  • hey men are you amazing, tu digitacion es perfecta en la parte medular de OXIGENE 2 (terrific right hand) i hope more amazing covers from you of JEAN MICHEL JARRE.

  • WOW!!!!

  • :-)

  • real nice and mellow

  • Next Great cover....Congratulations \../ ( -.-)

  • awesome playing

  • Less attack on the strings next time, please! But seriously, I can't believe you learned and played that right hand stuff perfectly. Congrats, it is amazing how long ago and with what machines Jarre was able to do this. But then his dad is filthy rich (Maurice Jarre)!

  • what kind of keyboards you using... Great job...

  • lennonfan123, the top keyboard is a Korg Radias, and the bottom one is a Korg M3

  • When are you making more JMJ songs ? :)

  • Another great clip! 5+ stars

  • Fantastic! amazing!

  • BRILHANT!!!AMAZINGG!!YOU ARE THE BESTTTTTTTT....NUSS!!!!RULEZZ!!!Okok..You are Jarre!!!!!!!WOWW!!!!

  • hi mate... excellent cover... i would love to see ur cover of oxygene variations III. carry on.... amazing stuff

  • all this is on Korg M3 as is from factory presets?

  • No. There are factory presets in there, but the majority of the sound is from sounds I've created myself on the M3, the M3's Radias expansion board, and the standalone Radias.

  • all this is on Korg M3 as is from factory?

  • Great song!

Do you have a mp3 version of this song?

  • Sure. Look at the video info to the right of the video (you may have to click "more info").

There's a link to MediaFire where the file can be downloaded. :-)

  • Congratulation, incredible sound, this is the best cover version. Greetings from Slovakia

  • Thank you. :-)

  • You are fantastic!

  • superb effort...

  • I've never heart a cover of Oxygene II that sounds so good as you did. I like it!

    Greetings from the Netherlands

  • Thanks a lot. :-)

  • das ist doch nachgespielt oder ?

  • Sorry, my German is not very good... But if you're asking if it is playback, the answer is that the backing tracks are played back by the sequencer in the M3 synthesizer, but the lead parts are all played live while I recorded the video.

All the parts that look like I'm playing them, are real playing. So there's no miming or pretending to play if that's what you're asking. :-)

  • some parts of this jean michel jarre originally played on a eminent 310 unique organ, but i have to admit this sounds good to

  • yeah, nothing will ever beat that incredible Eminent 310 string ensemble. But this is a damn good cover.

  • bonjour venez faire un tour une bonne composition de votre part et une new pour vous en remix equinoxe remix s777 enjoy^^

  • excelente amigo!

    excelente

  • Exelent!

  • Wow, you did that piece on 1:53 with one hand!

Even Jarre himself playes that piece with two hands always!

    Well done!

  • Thank you. :-)

It's not really that hard to play once you learn it. The hard part is learning it, note by note to the point where you know which note to play next in the sequence.

But the fingers themselves don't really move that fast. :-)

  • Best cover guy!

  • speechless

  • just beautiful ... good work!!

  • really awesome guy... I like jmj too much and i will go to see the oxygene tour in Rome on 5th november...I'm so excite...really good job guy...go on and on :)

  • what are you talking about? The oxygene tour is finished , Jarres last consert was given in Zurich in may dude, me myself was at the stockholm concert

  • nono

  • Next Jarre "OXYGENE LIVE" concert in Hungary, 12. november. 2008! :D

  • no it isn't im going to Rome tomorow to see it!

  • c'est la boite a ryme qui fait tout

  • Et toi tu fais quoi dans la vie ??

  • AMAZING !!!

I am a big fan of JM Jarre since the beginning and it is the 1st time I heat excellent and creative remixes of his music.

It is a great work and hope that you will continue, especially I wait for Equinoxe 4 & 5 ! Good job for the videos too !

  • Amazing :-)

  • Cool, the most emotional version, good job !

  • amazing ! I also have a M3 but first i need to go to school but I hope to do the same in a few years :-)

I would love to have the combi and the programm :-)

  • faultless...well done :-)

  • good video to teach all of us how to play oxygene 2 by jean michel jarre.

  • Beautiful

  • wow . . . .

  • WOW,,absolutely incredable..

Even jarre plays that fast tinkling melody with 2 hands..

    Pure quality sound too..

    TALENT,,A+++++++++++++++++++=

  • Stunning. Why doesn't my Radias sound like that.

    Excellent sounds and performance.

Must upgrade my Triton to an M3 ;o(

    Very talented !!

  • muito bom trabalho mesmo...voçe devia pensar seriamente em seguir ensta vertente pois voçe tem muito talento...PARABENS...GOOD JOB :)

  • My Tongue just fell from my mouth. LOL. Truly amazing is two words rarely say , but I think you well deserve it.

  • This is better than the original I think. I think the original was a little less clean than this and the leads were weaker. The rhythms are tighter too. Good Job!

  • Super good ! :-)

  • Very nice! I think that sounds more like the original than either the concert versions I've heard, or the recent "Oxygene Live In Your Living Room", and they used an entire room full of equipment. I look forward to hearing more!

  • Dude, you are seriously talented. Both this and the Equinoxe cover are fantastic, especially playing the chorus notes with one hand...impressive. Excellent stuff!!

  • R-E-S-P-E-C-T !!! ... You should make a Wourld Tour and I will defenetly go to see and watch you ! Good luck !

  • Thank you for your kind comments. :-)

  • c'est juste exceptionnel... :-)

  • WOOOOWW!! WHAT A GREAT COVER!!!. SPECIALLY BECAUSE YOU ARE PLAYING IT!!.

And what a equipement!!. Wow!!. Congratulations!!. REALLY!!. CONGRATULATIONS!!!.

Visit my cover too :). And enjoy it just as I am enjoying your cover!!. ONCE AGAIN, CONGRATULATIONS!!

  • the best Oxygene cover on youtube !!

  • I bought the Radias. I was gonna get the virus Ti but changed my mind and I am very happy with my purchase. Thanx

  • Indeed an excellent work...HE should start wondering...lol...But playing music that is already writen?I for one, would like to hear you work...Not that this is not perfect...But as always its somebody's else....With interest i would like to hear your own music as i know the other members would like to...Give us your best :-)

  • Jean-Michel Jarre watch your back,you have a rival!

  • excellent sounds, a lot of effort and great playing - especially the lead sequence - way to go!

  • Thanks for getting back...

Looks like I might be joining the Radias owners club after all!

  • Geat video - well crafted sounds...

tell me - are you using a radias board in the M3, or is it a "vanilla" M3 we are hearing for the M3 parts? :)

Seriously thinking of getting a radias...

Great demo - Korg should pay you! :)

  • I am using the Radias board in the M3 as well as the "vanilla" EDS sounds and the standalone Radias synth.

Up to 1:50 into the video, all the sound you hear comes from 8 timbres of pure Radias joy (Radias and EXB-Radias).

But both main lead parts that are played on the M3's keyboard are not Radias, but could easily be programmed on a Radias. Also, most of the drums are "vanilla" (even preset) drums on the M3.

The Radias is great sounding and fun to program. :-)
