  • yet to come: icepod

  • New Post involving what happened today at the CES 2011, re-tweet!!

    twitter - GadgetCountry

  • lmfao, lmfao, lmfao

  • Or you could just use glass (or some kind of clear plastic) and use it anywhere in the world...

  • uselesssss

  • What if somebody spray some grafitti on the ice? ^^

  • Disposable televisions?

  • the only touchscreen that gives you frostbite!

  • bullship?

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, In cold countries nobody wants to stay indoors, because it's too warm. They want to stay outside and fondle blocks of ice.

  • So technically it is not a touch screen like the title says.

  • Advertising about buying ice... with ice! BRILLIANT!

  • "By the way, if anyone here is in advertising or marketing: kill yourself! Kill yourselves, seriously! You are the ruiner of all things good. Seriously, no, this is not a joke! There’s no rationalization for what you do. You are Satan’s little helpers, filling the world with bile and garbage, you are fucked and you are fucking us, kill yourselves, it's the only way to save your fucking soul! Kill yourself, kill yourself, kill yourself, now! Now, back to the show..."

    -Bill Hicks

  • @Tressco so would you rather pay to see theese videos?

  • i'm gonna pee on one.

  • haha captain obvioius!

  • Finally, a Minority Report supercomputer interface in Siberia! I'm stoked!

  • pointless

  • What happens when it melts?

  • @ALAPAT1

    The projection is ruined.

  • Could be used in cold countries to create interactive displays?!

Yeah, those cold countries. They haven't invented walls yet, so their technology all needs to be ice-based.

    What a ridiculous statement.

  • @rulesandwisdom I did lol at your statement, but I think you took that the wrong way. I think it was meant that it's more viable in cold countries because the ice won't melt, not because there is no alternative.

  • @rulesandwisdom It probably is going to be cheaper than having a traditional touchscreen of comparable size. Advertising with a giant block of ice sounds like an effective gimmick which was probably the main message here. Cold countries would be a must since advertising inside a freezer would not yield good results. :)

  • @joellera I don't see how it would be cheaper. As far as I understand it, there is nothing special about the ice, the interactivity works by projecting IR light onto the surface. Could be any surface.

When it comes to the gimmicky nature of it though, I totally agree. Just the wording at the end of the video annoyed me!

  • @rulesandwisdom Haha maybe that's not the point : ) I live in Finland myself and i would be happy to see something like that out there in winters. Too bad though, someone would smash them apart right there.

  • @rulesandwisdom

    Lol! Ridiculous statement indeed.

  • @rulesandwisdom who will come to see walls ? it aint extraordinary... but icewalls with colors are....

if you walk naked on the road people will see you even though everyone has genitals...

  • @shani21shani I don't see how it has anything to do with anything, but I can't argue with your statement. It is true everyone has genitals. More or less.

  • @rulesandwisdom

Oh in hot countries with very efficient AC?

  • @rulesandwisdom LOL I thought the same thing.

  • @rulesandwisdom best comment ever xD

  • @rulesandwisdom Ever heard of those things called PR-Gags?

  • @TekilaCocktailSuRi Ever heard of sloppy science journalism that picks up on PR-Gags and reports it as if it's the start of a a whole new branch of ice-based technology?

Saying that, I think I overreacted with my original post. Whatever :)

  • @rulesandwisdom Flintstones :D

  • @rulesandwisdom More like Public decoration..

  • @rulesandwisdom I noticed that too

  • @rulesandwisdom Quebec, have each year a Castle made of Ice in Quebec City.

They could use this technology, to make more interactive wall or floors.

    Its for entertainment.

  • @RubiusFail I understand totally. The narration at the end of the video just seemed weird to me.

  • Nice installment art, but not very practical in hot areas.

  • @pchackal Not practical in hot areas? Man, how would any of us have figured that out without your comment. Thanks, Captain Obvious!

  • @ParaSwarm Did someone say my name...?

  • @MrCaptainObvs you just made my day

  • I could imagine how many peoples tongues would get stuck to that if there was an ad for food.

  • @z33k980m8 LMAO

  • @z33k980m8 you lick food ads? o_O

  • ads!?

     NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    :(

  • wow.........NOT!

  • ICEpod.

  • Advertising? We need to invent a way to kill all advertisers at once. THAT could be useful.

  • @Xxero0 The reason you get to watch these videos is because of advertising. You really wan to kill the goose?

  • @Xxero0

Without ads, you wouldn't be watching any Youtube videos. At least for free.

  • @Xxero0 that would be called adblock plus

  • @Xxero0 Buy every product at once?

  • @Xxero0

We could show them this video and suggest that they make all their billboards out of ice ;-)

  • ice ice baby! dod o dodo dodo

  • yeh just what they need in cold countries interactive displays.. damn how do we survive without them!

  • @shaolindreams

You missed the point completely and your sarcasm was not that funny. It's made just to prove a concept and have a little fun.

  • @betterbeavailable fuck off.

  • ..... advertising? Maybe just leave it at, this things cool, period

  • Very nICE! haha

  • ok....i can do this with laser pointers........

  • Hey that a "cool" invention.

    Hurrrrrrr

  • I hope i see this at Winterlude this year!

  • Lol wat a fail

  • How stupid is that!!! Why would somebody use THIS INVENTION to advertising instead of using plexiglass THAT LOOK LIKE ICE and avoid the melting.

This video from NewScientist is an EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @zate1982

ya, the ice cant be made clear enough!

some sort of glass would then be the optimal.

    - I have when they post this kind of shit >:(

  • @zate1982 All kinds of advertisers use ice as a promotion tool. The skating rink has dye in it with some brand name. Ice sculpture shows have promoters names engraved into them. Festival of lights displays sometimes have ice blocks with the promoters name in it and lit up. Maybe that's just in Canada... but I am pretty sure the Northern U.S. uses it too.

  • @o0Theresa0o I know, but, is this an advance in advertising science? I mean, i could find it a contribution if somehow they sell this idea from the inception, by mentioning the semi-transparent screen and from that getting to the ice and its possibilities in winter olympics for advertising and stuff like that.

  • @zate1982 It will be used mainly in cold country so the ice does not melt besides it is cheaper to use ice instead of plexiglass.

  • @Scylainn I get your point, but, my point is that i don't really found it like a science advance, but just a fancy way to promote, that can be replaced with some other cheap alternatives instead of ice, like some sorts of recycled plastic.

  • People seem to not realize creating technologies like this always lead to newer technologies:p

  • useless but fun

  • Wow alot of hate comments. I think its a quite cool form of interactive media.

  • they could be used to waste our time

  • I'm coming a step closer to unsubscribing.

  • how useless! gj!

  • "The system could be used in cold countries to create interactive displays or for advertising"

Shut up, no it couldn't. Can't newscientist just say that it just looks cool for once?

  • they forgot the fact it would be the perfect accessory to any bad ass super villain's ice cave hide out

  • Meanwhile, somewhere else in the world, something useful was invented.

  • time for some overclocking ^_^

  • So useful.

  • LMFAO! This is so dumb!!! xD

  • That is so COOL!! (Get it? cool.......... yeah)

  • GO FINLAND! that place is crazy...when i was there, i sat on a ice chair and pet an ice wolf and walked through a swamp, but they have wireless internet everywhere, lol

  • nifty, now eskimos can have light shows in there igloos!

  • great... an ad block of ice

  • In from Norway, shit man I'm so going to have a wide-screen block of ice in my igloo without question!

  • thanks, more ads...

  • or it can be used in cold countries to make shit look awesome :D

  • That's cool, I mean cold.

  • Boring.

  • This stuff is old !!!!!!!!! we had this for years in Canada

  • this looks pretty cool, can you get it in hd?

  • lol at the example, "cold countries"

  • Introducing the new Apple product, the "I-GLOO". pronounced just like igloo, but with a modern twist!

  • icepod

  • And Canada shall never be the same...

  • @CalvinDWalker its not THAT cold here in canada. in the summer our igloos even start to melt and we have to move farther north for a week.

  • @joegadd I was kidding around. I live in Ottawa right now, actually.

  • @CalvinDWalker i know, i live in vancouver. after a while you can tell if its a canadian joking about them self, eh?

  • @joegadd Yeah, but don't tell those Americans, eh? I can't wait to see what they think of us now! XD

  • Actually, you would not believe how many non-Canadians - most of them American at that - think Canada is nothing but ice and snow.

I live in Toronto, and I have been asked the following:

"How do you paint an igloo?"

"How do you hang a picture in an igloo? Doesn't it make a whole [sic]?"

"Wait...you can make a satellite dish out of ice?"

"How do you access the internet if there is no electricity in the arctic?"

  • @1RadicalOne yea, i live in vancouver. my sister knows an american who didnt know we had tuesdays!

  • Oh, woww...

  • @1RadicalOne Wait, its not? ....my whole life view...shattered... I don't know what to do with myself anymore! I kid of course....I live in Wisconsin...not quite Canada...or Arctic for that matter...but it gets cold here. I can totally see myself installing one of these ice screens...in my room.... O.o

in all seriousness, the only practical purpose I see for this particular technology is to be used in those ice hotels and nightclubs.

  • @vinak963 or ice skating rink, augmented reality hockey, interactive ice sculpture.

  • okay.. thats icy cool but a little useless...

i dont wanna fill my pockets with some ice cubes...

  • Cold porn, NICE =)

  • Huge fail, advertisement industry! Global warming finally comes to some use - stopping this!

  • That ice is cool!

  • @wordreet ARGHAHAHA

  • I'd hate to see it melt :L

  • waste. of. time.

  • @insanepotato waste. of. fullstops.

  • nokia is the best <3

  • thats sick!

  • Sweet now penguins will know the Mcribs back

  • finally we get tvs in norway

  • ohhhh, il just press this button and... AHHHHHHHH MY HAND IS STUCK TO THE ICE!!

  • This could save lots of lives.

  • Best comment section ever.

  • Igloo rave parties!!!!

  • The ICE was born for porn

  • Oh sure. Freezing my fingers off on my new laptop while it melts in my lap..

  • or maybe we could use plastic?

  • ADVERTISING?!!!!! hahahahahahahaha

  • porno on ice

  • Have they not invented the TV screen in cold countries yet?

  • fuck off you pale skinned bastards

  • Great, I want one.

  • Concept: 1 year

    Construction: 3 months

    Lifespan: 3mins

    gud luk with that....

  • interesting

  • It could also be used in any country for displays.

  • In cold countries? Are you serious? The concept is fun but ....

  • Pretty cool. lol I made funny.

  • or use glass? probably would cost as much as the electricity used to sculpt the thing.

  • @pieface1726 Yes but, ice is simply that much cooler to interact with.

  • interactive display or advertisment in cold places??? we already have enough ad spam on the internet these past 2 years and u want to put it on ice now? ur better off with an ipad since the ice will make it hard to read anything since it's not flat and clear enough and the equipement to make the display will fail sooner than the ipad at extreme temperature IMO.

  • AWESOME

  • theres no one up there want that shit

  • sounds like they are really big fans of....coldplay

    YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • because Antarctica is too cold for mice ;)

  • I love that they give possible ideas as to how the product could be used...But some of their examples are pretty lame

  • this will make rich people happy im sure,

    well done science.

  • ICY why they would do that

  • this can't cure cancer??+++

  • @Colaglass not to be rude, but not everyone is out to find a cure for cancer.

  • @Colaglass Doubt it.

  • what was that for if you have a mouse??

or even a touch screen monitor

  • Not new technology there.

Still, that's a video I've never seen before.

    Thanks.

  • NOWAY WOULD THIS BE APPLICABLE IN THE REAL WORLD, how is it better than glass? yeah it's a little bit interesting, but don't pretend it would be useful, ever..

  • @UjjijjU those flying contraptions will either never work or be useless. Those huge computers - we only need one for the entire country! Sheesh. Learn something about the interaction between science and technology.

  • @UjjijjU they said the same about boolean algebra.. u never know

  • @UjjijjU Because of science you are able to write the message you just wrote you dunce.

  • @NathanWubs unfortunately I can learn pretty well. Too bad you are a liar.

  • @UjjijjU How am I a liar? You never heard of computer sciences? You think that the computer always was? The computer/laptop or even phone that you are on now. All exist because of science. Every invention of mankind is science.

  • @NathanWubs or just chance... lol

  • @NathanWubs You are liar because I can learn pretty well.

  • @UjjijjU You speak no sense sir.

    Please leave the internet.

  • @MyFatMonkey Which part of what I said don't you understand? Or was it all of it? :O

  • Hey, my computer froze up!

  • @shockferret YEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH

  • "But thanks to global warming, this wont be around for long" I was expecting that to have been said XD

  • this discovery could be used to entertain people trapped under an avalanche... lol

  • used in cold countries LOL

  • @sharpezor Lol, we just got huge blocks of ice everywhere here in canada and now we can finally use this technology for advertisements!

  • @Deviantial I'm in canada too, brb just going outside to play with my block of ice screen. sitting there shivering, ISNT THIS COOL GUYS

  • @sharpezor oh contre its *puts sunnies on* its ice cold
