I maybe would do an exception for WOW(animation and plot too soft...) and TES(too many quests based mainly on magic and fantasy) (i don't know, some people admire this). Gothics and Risen quests are related to realistic, psychological NPCs, who have emotional response to character's behaviour and contact, the quests create the story, plot lines because of versatile dialogues and various witty ways to solution, quests interact with each other and this is the trigger! i think no other games have.
I haven't played Arcania yet, but Risen reminds me of all Gothic series games that was a huge pleasure. I have played quite many RPGs but in none of them i found such enjoyable quests. Especially the first and the second Gothic games. The third was slightly different but I liked it very much, too, though. The expansion for the third game, Forsaken Gods, I think was indeed poorly made.
Why did Deep Silver make you interact with prostitutes in the game? This a completely pointless crappy feature in the game that just limits the amount of people that can play it. Please tell me this feature won't turn up in Risen 2 or I'll be mad.
@MarkusRamikin I don't get why people rate Gothic 2 over Gothic 1. Yes Gothic 2 had less bugs (and ladders), improved skillsystem and a tad less clumsy movement. But Gothic 1 had a way more original and exciting story. I rank both of them as two of the best games ever made, but Gothic 1 is far better than Gothic 2 (IMO).
@RectumPilum A matter of opinion perhaps, but I liked the combat system better (ou can't hold the block forever any more, but the backwards-jump is useful even against animals), I liked being able to be a Paladin, I liked the bigger world including the Night of the Raven content, I liked that it was harder (esp. with the expansion), I loved the city of Khorinis and the various NPCs... it's hard to describe it but Gothic 2 took what's great from Gothic 1 and distilled it to greater strength. :)

I love to make moral decisions in a game; It makes me feel more connected to the PC. That's one of the reasons I loved Dragon Age :P.
Gothic was a amazing game. but Gothic 4 was fun as well as 3 and G3,FG. but Gothic 4 was a disgrace to be called part of the Gothic series. . . G1 - 2 NOTR. i will always have fond memorys of. this game however i have my doubts. .
Amazing game. I haven't had such an RPG experience for a long time! (I played Morrowind, Oblivion and plenty of MMORPGs and now I can say: Risen is definitely worth playing!
@qwerkaz I have both games both games are good but both have teir pros and cons in the witcher you have an nice story but there are quite some technical bugs and the combat system isn't really user friendly, in Risen you have excelent graphics and very nivce and good solid gameplay, it's solid there isn't much innovative, but overall I liked Risen more, but can't wait for the sequals of both games...

The first two chapters were cool and i had a lot of fun while playing them, but chapter 3 and 4 were so boring. I was very disappointed but had the hope that the endboss would be better BUT then it came after 30 hours playing and my disappointment was growing.

I just Finished it great game:Exploration and choices are super fun and rewarding tho battle with lizards can be bit ffrustrating in the end.This game has a very cool system of magic on scrols wich is relativly cheap and u use it to get through puzles in ruins its very fun and rewards being creative.Only thing i dont like is the endgame boss wich is too easy.
And stop comparing rpg games like "this is better". Risen may not be great in voice acting, animations or graphics when compared to Dragon age but we know Risen is low bugget game compared to dragon age.
I am just finished risen. I have to say atmosphere is great in this game and open world exploring is fun. The only thing I find bad is ending. At last I was feeling powerfull as a mage but game is ended and last boss sucks. I t doesnt matter what lvl or how much stats you have in the end. You will get best armors and weapons for a quest and they are not require stats and the last boss fight is kinda lame
Imho you can't compare oblivion and dragon age because, although they both are RPG's, they're pretty different. And there are ppl who prefer what DA:O has to offer and others who like Oblivion... So I think we can all agree that both games are great in the own ways ?

@ovoon7. Oblivion was my first Elder Scrolls game because it came out when I was just getting into gaming, but I've since played Daggerfall and Morrowind and love everything about Elder Scrolls. (My favorite is Morrowind.)

I'm trying to figure out if I'd enjoy this game and this trailer makes absolutely no sense. All it leaves me with are questions and not the "I am so intrigued I want to find out what this is all about!" kind of questions. I mean the "What the hell is even going on?" kind of questions.

Gothic 1,Gothic 2 and Risen are made exclusevly byyyy PB(Piranha Bytes)!!!!!!.

I just Finished it great game:Exploration and choices are super fun and rewarding tho battle with lizards can be bit ffrustrating in the end.This game has a very cool system of magic on scrols wich is relativly cheap and u use it to get through puzles in ruins its very fun and rewards being creative.Only thing i dont like is the endgame boss wich is too easy.

And stop comparing rpg games like "this is better". Risen may not be great in voice acting, animations or graphics when compared to Dragon age but we know Risen is low bugget game compared to dragon age.

I am just finished risen. I have to say atmosphere is great in this game and open world exploring is fun. The only thing I find bad is ending. At last I was feeling powerfull as a mage but game is ended and last boss sucks. I t doesnt matter what lvl or how much stats you have in the end. You will get best armors and weapons for a quest and they are not require stats and the last boss fight is kinda lame

Imho you can't compare oblivion and dragon age because, although they both are RPG's, they're pretty different. And there are ppl who prefer what DA:O has to offer and others who like Oblivion... So I think we can all agree that both games are great in the own ways ?

@ovoon7. Oblivion was my first Elder Scrolls game because it came out when I was just getting into gaming, but I've since played Daggerfall and Morrowind and love everything about Elder Scrolls. (My favorite is Morrowind.)
Elder Scrolls and Gothic aren't very similar so I'm not getting why that guy would say "If you like Oblivion you will like Gothic" anyways.
It's more like "If you like Two Worlds then you'll like Gothic".

If you like Oblivion you certainly WOULDN'T like Gothic... But Morrowind is VERY similar to Gothic 1 and 2. What Gothic games id you play? 3 was a huge mess. Risen is Piranha Bytes' apology for that horrible game.

Terribly unplayable on PC.I quit it at chapter 3,after I came to a dead end,dealing with 5 huge bugs simultaneously...& I'd allready overcame another 50 till then - I'm not talking about small bugs,like npc's without bodies walking around!!!!!,but for storyline bugs.And I used the latest patch...This could be a great game,but Piranha Bytes did it again,like Gothic 3 and even worse.At least Gothic 3 with all the flaws was somehow playable.Piranha blamed Jo Wood then,what do they have to say now??

Some ppl say that it too hardcore, that nobody tells you what to do, that you dont have no help there. Thats all because this is supposed to be realistic like medieval fantasy world, where you are droped, and its on you how you survive. This is what was all Gothic 1,2 about, and what is this game about.
If you dont like it, dont play it, but stop you idiots saying that this game sux when you know nothing about it.

Old school RPG, ppl who say that this game sux and is boring are idiots, they know absolutelly nothing about what is supposed to be good RPG. This is old school, primary based on Gothic 1, 2 , not 3. Gothic 3 was fucked up, easy as hell and full of bugs, thanks to "money-wanted" Jowood and their too quick release.

But JoWood got the Copyrights of the name"Gothic". Piranha Bytes and JoWood aren't working together anymore. So Piranha Bytes had to think about a new name.

@megaguitar15 The graphics don't "suck" but they are dated, it took them about a year to get it released in the US so its not as shiny as the other newer releases,
