At the mid point of the year it is useless. Teacher have to plan AROUND the WASL not for the WASL, that and teaching us, the students, to test, not live a full produced life.
Why so much complaining about the WASL and no one complains about the manditory driver's test, or the pilot's test, or food handler's test? Is it not reasonable to expect a student to be able to write a decent essay, understand what they read, and know how to use numbers as well as perform scientific inquiry? Nope, it is reasonable.
I a fan of the WASL, but what has happened to it since the NCLBA *No Child Left Behind Act* it has gone down hill. They way the hand out the test I think that you should take the test 1st grade, 5th grade, then 8th grade, and at the END of the year.
You have quite the mature viewpoint. I like that you are thinking about the world around you and the systems in place. Great.
