This was only 1 week after Randy Rhodes died, he must've been in state of shock and you have to admire his courage and commitment, you cant kill rock n roll, its here to stay!
Looking at this video, rock and roll was really "dangerous" back then... I mean, the artists would really get out of their f clocks, and people knew that, so if you watch Letterman, he's really scared of Ozzy -- at least, he's afraid for his own neck, you never know if he would try another crazy stunt like biting the neck of the interviewer.... good times... now it's all so straight.
That's what you're supposed to do when you get fired from a huge band and you're broke and drunk. In the end, if it wasn't for his years of alchol and drugs, Ozzy would never get peoples attention like he managed to do - and his career probably wouldn't be the same. His songs are great but sometimes it takes a little bit more.
Ozzy: "I've lost two of the greatest people in my life. It aint gonna stop me cause i'm for rock'n'roll and rock'n'roll is for the people. And I love people. And that's what i'm about."
@mykotron i was suprised by that also, even though it was 30 years ago, it struck me how dedicated he's always been to his fans. i've seen him many times here in the U.S. and it's always a great show. i only wonder if maybe it's because back then tv audiences only reacted when the signs told them to?
@evanwilliams1975 I think its because most people thought hes evil... people would listen to black sabbath and hear the word SATAN etc and only hear the word (dumbasses) instead of listening to the rest of the sentence... cause if they id theyd realize he was MOCKING the devil everytime... people are dumb... and they were WAY dumber just 30 years ago
ozzy is a cool gentle person. The audience obviously didn't get him. Half of them probably owned a Black Sabbath record at one point yet had no clue he was the original singer. Ozzy was mocked in the 80's hes now a legend. Dave didnt know any better but FUCK THAT AUDIENCE !
Poor Ozzy was so screwed up he could barely talk, but hell he had just lost Randy and I'm sure he thought his world was coming to an end.. Dave was a bit of an ass in the beginning, but I though the way he ended the interview was really cool.
-OZZY- was my hero when I was comeing upin the 80's I told my pop he would blow up in recognition as an artist. -Ozzy- is the black sheep that is respected. We love you ozzy..
would have been good to see ozzy and band play a number live on the show, this is a truely sad state ozzy was, i feel sorry for what he went through, roandy was such a super songwriter, just amazing
@mechiefslapahobitch That laughter was REAL! I remember the early years of Letterman. He was a real square and when guest like Ozzy came on his squareness was magnified. Him being so uncomfortable is what made the show funny to me. It was good of Ozzy to show up so soon after he lost Randy too. But I guess that's what a real pro does.
If Randy hadn't passed prior to this interview, Letterman probably would've had the whole band bust out a tune. It would've gone done in history like when KISS first appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. We only have one professionally shot concert with Randy, and that's a damn shame.
Easy now Mr. De ports his mouth before he thinks.
The comment was about influences on our country from
other countries and the effects on your mind and others.
You commented pretty rough and I came back rough but not
quite as rough as you did.I was an Ozzy fan and went to the Diary of a Madman concert(in Fresno, Ca.) just a few months before Randy was killed in Leesburg FL.
As one get's older and wiser you begin to question WHY am I who I am and think the way I do? Influences perhaps?
Poor Ozzy,,,, He was grieving the loss for Randy. In his autobiography, he said he was drunk on this. I could tell he is very heartbroken (cos of Randy's death) and out of his skull on here
@dahoss65 Sorry bro, bands like between the Buried and Me, Black Dahlia Murder, and The Faceless are making the best rock music that has ever been made in history. Right now! Being a metal fan is the best time EVER.
@utility59 Thank You for saying that!!! I was born & raised in NYC. I remember doing a job in 1994 on the side street (W54th I think) of the Ed Sullivan Theater, and seeing these dorky tourists standing on a long line that went around the block--to see his show. Me and my co-workers could not understand how these people would stand on a long cold line to see such an IDIOT!!! BTWay most NYer's don't find him funny either. JCarson was great at conducting interviews.
Lol I love Ozzy Osbourne and he's honestly great and hilarious in this interview. Dave kind of acts normally as he does but Ozzy's shtick didn't resonate at all with the crowd. Its so awkward to watch but its not really Ozzy's fault.
I honestly don't get why everybody is down on Letterman. I don't see how he's being rude. That's just the way he interviews. At least he discusses things that actually happened and such. A lot of interviewers barely even have their facts halfway straight and are completely clueless on what they're talking about. Dave at least seems interested to hear what Ozzy is going to say. As for the issue of Randy's death, Dave was nothing but respectful.
Letterman, such an asshole. Ozzy is a real person, and has always been pretty level as far as people go. Letterman is a fake/joke praying on other people to make himself look funny. POOR TASTE and not really even funny... And look now who's more successful. Hmmm
David Letterman...who are you? Ozzy among many others are successful without bashing others.
WEAK people use others to make themselves look superior! In the end, you look like the fool.
WHAT A SHITHEAD DAVID LETTERMAN AND HIS AUDIENCE WAS FOR TREATING OZZY LIKE SHIT!! TOO BAD FOR EVERYONE IN THE CROWD AND LETTERMAN ... OZZY IS THE REAL HOST OF ANY SHOW!!! OZZY MAKES ANY SHOW SUCCESSFUL!!
Fact is, Ozzy would admit to his love of drink, not yet, he really had to decide he'd try and be a spokesperson for addiction, and John Michael, God Bless him, he was hardly violent compared to Black Metal overseas, of course! haha
It annoys me that people who aren't Vegetarians find biting the head of a Bat shocking - do you think what Chickens go through in factories is any better?
I seen this show the night it aired since I had went to the Chicago show just a few months before all this went down. Not sure if many people know that Gary Moore had just left Thin Lizzy over sloopy drunk drug band playing on the Black Rose album tour that Moore worked so hard at making sound so good. Ozzy asked Gary to play before Randy but Gary said he just left a party band and No Thanks. He helped audition players though for Ozzy. That was in 1979. RIP Gary Moore and Randy Rhodes
@legendofcraig that's your opinion but when Ozzy got kicked out of Sabbath all the magic was gone and they just sounded like Dio's band instead of Sabbath and I'm not sure how many songs Ozzy write but I know he write the lyrics to Black Sabbath and Planet Caravan I think they were the perfect combination and if Iommi had left it would have been exactly the same so I'm not saying anyone was better if you thought Sabbath still sounded great after Ozzy got kicked out that's your opinion
@jungleGSC there's Obama: David Axelrod Special Adviser to the President, Rahm Emanuel White House Chief of Staff son of a Zionist terrorist dual-citizen of Israel and America served in Israel’s military during the First Gulf War instead of the U.S. military. Bernanke, Kohn, Warsh, and Kroszner are still heading the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, Tim Geithner – Treasury Secretary, Gary Gensler – Chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.Elena Kagan etc, etc,
@jungleGSC Uhmm... that's how. Look at what Michael Jackson said about the Ashkenazis (Ashkenazis aren't Hebrews genetically). Musicians are afraid of loosing their career for speaking up. I'll go one further: Ashkenazis are replete in the US govt. W Bush = Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz, Elliott Abrams, I. Lewis Libby (a lawyer for convicted felon and Israeli spy Marc Rich, whom Clinton pardoned, in his last days as president), Michael Chertoff 1st Homeland secretary (dual citizenship). Then
@Ebeneezerable "Uhmm... that's how." what's how? you still havent given me an explanation of how the music industry is full of anti semitism. i said some of the most powerful people in the music industry are jews. this is true whether they are israelites, ashkenazi, yiddish, hebrew or whatever jewish is jewish. you sound like you're regurgitating some mindless david icke nonsense.
@jungleGSC People who are white are not Semitic. Arabs are Semitic, the Eastern European imposters are not. They are Hebrews by way of religion only. I answered the music industry/anti-semitism question in another post of yours. Facts are facts. Do you know about the USS Liberty? Those sailors are often accused of anti-semitism when it is they who were wronged by Isreal (and the US). Facts are facts whether its David Icke or Netenyahu who says so.
@pwreric last time i checked lyor cohen is a jew, and so is jimmy iovine. you are spouting nonsense. religion has very little to do with ethnicity. if a sect of jews all of a sudden decided they were going to worship dora the explorer as their god they would still be jews.
@pwreric p.s. david icke is cointel that is spreading disinformation. reptilians? give me a f'n break. i dont know how old you are, but if you think david icke (while very knowledgeable himself) is trying to light other's torches then i'm afraid i don't agree with you not at all. people like david icke, alex jones, ron paul... these people are all here to pretend they are representing the common man, while their real agenda is to confuse and confound the common man.
@pwreric the uss liberty has absolutely nothing to do with anti semitism or the music industry, so please just quiet your nonsense. you are making us all even less intelligent than most of us already are.
@jungleGSC The people who control it are. The people who make them the money are anti-Semitic, the artists. Do you not know that Jews control Hollywierd? Even the Jews admit this. Why do you think people like Ozzy and Michael Jackson say this kind of thing?
The audience in this were fucking dead! cant beleive they didnt laugh and applouse more. And ozzy was stoned but then again when was ozzy never stoned back then!!
I know. After the show, let's make eggs!

nickthemighty1 4 months ago
@nickthemighty1 Yeah, people in the music business are anti-Semitic. He must have got in line unlike Michael Jackson.
Ebeneezerable 2 months ago
@Ebeneezerable how can you say people in the music business are anti-semites when some of the most powerful men in the industry are jews?
jungleGSC 2 months ago
@jungleGSC there's Obama: David Axelrod Special Adviser to the President, Rahm Emanuel White House Chief of Staff son of a Zionist terrorist dual-citizen of Israel and America served in Israel’s military during the First Gulf War instead of the U.S. military. Bernanke, Kohn, Warsh, and Kroszner are still heading the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, Tim Geithner – Treasury Secretary, Gary Gensler – Chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.Elena Kagan etc, etc,
Ebeneezerable 2 months ago
Then

@Ebeneezerable "Uhmm... that's how." what's how? you still havent given me an explanation of how the music industry is full of anti semitism. i said some of the most powerful people in the music industry are jews. this is true whether they are israelites, ashkenazi, yiddish, hebrew or whatever jewish is jewish. you sound like you're regurgitating some mindless david icke nonsense.
jungleGSC 2 months ago
@jungleGSC People who are white are not Semitic. Arabs are Semitic, the Eastern European imposters are not. They are Hebrews by way of religion only. I answered the music industry/anti-semitism question in another post of yours. Facts are facts. Do you know about the USS Liberty? Those sailors are often accused of anti-semitism when it is they who were wronged by Isreal (and the US). Facts are facts whether its David Icke or Netenyahu who says so.

@pwreric last time i checked lyor cohen is a jew, and so is jimmy iovine. you are spouting nonsense. religion has very little to do with ethnicity. if a sect of jews all of a sudden decided they were going to worship dora the explorer as their god they would still be jews.
jungleGSC 1 month ago
@pwreric p.s. david icke is cointel that is spreading disinformation. reptilians? give me a f'n break. i dont know how old you are, but if you think david icke (while very knowledgeable himself) is trying to light other's torches then i'm afraid i don't agree with you not at all. people like david icke, alex jones, ron paul... these people are all here to pretend they are representing the common man, while their real agenda is to confuse and confound the common man.

@pwreric hebrew is a language, not an ethnicity or race.

@pwreric the uss liberty has absolutely nothing to do with anti semitism or the music industry, so please just quiet your nonsense. you are making us all even less intelligent than most of us already are.

@Ebeneezerable I'm not attempting to be rude. I'm just a little confused about what it is you mean.
jungleGSC 2 months ago
@jungleGSC The people who control it are. The people who make them the money are anti-Semitic, the artists. Do you not know that Jews control Hollywierd? Even the Jews admit this. Why do you think people like Ozzy and Michael Jackson say this kind of thing?

At the 6:18 mark, Ozzy states "In the last week guys, and people out there, I lost 2 of the greatest people in my life". So definitely March 1982.
