@yeriaf "Rail" track as opposed to what? The Acela high-speed train in the northeast USA does 150mph on "rail" tracks. And the French TGV in Europe is capable of over 300mph on regular rail tracks.
If your referring to magnetic levitation, that technology will never become commonplace as it is far to inefficient and expensive to maintain.
not actually the LRC train... none of it. the engines are rebuilt 6400's and the cars are rebuilt HEP cars, built in the 50's, revamped in the 90's. there are actually no LRC engines in service anymore... just the coach cars. they stopped using the engines in the 90's. and also, the HEP cars were steam-operated cars until the 90's, when they were reconditioned, and they got the power electically from the head-end. hence, "head-end powered" cars. thanx for the upload, though.
Nice video, but your description is off. That is not an LRC train, but rather an F40 with HEP-2 coaches....I'm not sure why you would identify it as an LRC.
That was impressive,however,in Australia,long distance passenger trains run at 115km/hr as a cost saving measure.XPT type rollingsock could run at 160km/hr but i believe that it is now 120/130km/hr.(XPTs are clones of the British 125s but were built here in Aust.)Canadian trains appear far superior to those operating just below in USA however that may be an unfair comment.A lot of Aussies use Canadian rail when visiting as some are heavily advertised down under.
I Am in oversea but I know Premiers of Ontario and Quebec are funding 1 Million about the feasibility of High Speed train Between Quebec City and Windsor...What do yout think...Because Japan and Europe have high speed train already...These countries are already behind us...
Yes. I have heard this idea a few times recently. I think it's a turbo diesel if I'm not mistaken... 150 MPH.. an par with the Acela Express... That would be VERY cool but the price tag is in the bilions of dollars so... I don't see it happening for many years if it ever does.
@cardboardhut ohhhh man don't get me started on those fucking committees........ they hire 10 dushbags pay them 100,000 a year. to do a study for 2 years to decide what color the train should be............... our system is soo fucked up.
@freeworldofskiing ... via rail does not do track upgrades as they do not own or operate the track. it's all CN... an american-owned privately operated rail system. via can upgrade the coffee machines and the logo on the napkins... but the track upgrades and speed decisions have nothing to do with via rail.
I bet it does all of 60mph the rail track cant take much more.

99 MPH - VIA Rails max speed limit.
HaltonRailfan 7 months ago
@HaltonRailfan
99 is the maximum speed read out by the hotbox scanner.... the GE Genesis can be geared to run up to 110...
LanceCampeau 7 months ago
@LanceCampeau 110mph is a walk in the park for a EMD F40….. LOL
EMD645E 7 months ago
I can run faster than that

I would give almost anything to see video of the old FPA-4's and FP-9's going at that speed.

@LouAu Canadian politicians love funding feasibility studies, and hate actually funding projects. I think other studies have been done in the past.

@LanceCampeau where does via hit 110mph? i thought the track speed was 100mph?
freeworldofskiing 11 months ago
@freeworldofskiing
I posted that comment 3 years ago... lol
The max speed is 100 MPH but the engine can do 110 MPH
LanceCampeau 11 months ago
@LanceCampeau so realisticaly if via wants to cut back travel time all they have to do is do some minor track upgrades to allow for 110 MPH?
freeworldofskiing 11 months ago
@freeworldofskiing
I don't know about that.... but I suspect that 100 was choosen at some point in time and they have just built the system around that speed...
