  • Why is everyone that's very good at guitar sooo creeeppyy

  • Vraiment du très bon gout! wahouuu! ca sonne!!!

  • this dude always looks like he just got a call that his entire family died right before he picks up the guitar

  • yes!

  • larry must be rich as shit.. in bed with about 8 or 10 hookes and high/drunk as fuck to be this happy O.O or just a pedophile in a toy store...

  • i dont understand... how can you dislike this. you sat through the whole thing and have the audacity to dislike. this is beauty in ur face and ears and ur bowels

  • j'aime l'intégrité des joueurs de jazz

  • Happy as Larry Dimarzio !!!

  • @AJSoundbytes Larry Carlton

  • Really like this tune

  • and i thought steve vai was a god lol

  • Alex sure does have Larry Carlton's "feel", for sure! I have been getting goosebumps for forty years now from Larry's playing,, and now,, getting it from Alex! I guess it's stereo-goosebumps",, what a dream!!!

  • Man. His songs would be the ultimate study exercise for ears, melodyunderstanding, rythm.. everything. Unbelievable.

  • which scale does he use?

  • @robydux N# Major

  • @robydux i answered your question in other video hahaha

  • U either got it or u haven't - and this boy has it. Wow !

  • 0:33 EPIC HARMONY

  • 9 dislikes by 9 Justin Beaver fans. :))

  • How do I be so good?

  • @bomdelux practice every day for years. Also you gotta love it to even progress that far into any specific field or else it'll feel like homework or work. Of course you can do it as if its homework and become the next shawn lane but loving to play is a helper because it keeps you motivated to play for years on end and end up with alex hutchings skills. It only takes a few years to develop the chops to play this song.. but it takes way more to be able to compose and preform with such phrasing.

  • @reaperofgenocide haha, I have been doing that. I must say the first maybe 3-4 years of playing I really couldn't put the thing down, however, these days not so much. I think I've hit a bit of a barrier practice and just in terms of ergonomics. There are some chords and licks that I simply cannot do because I was not born with the stretch required. I see all these boring scale patterns and metronome routines that I should be doing, then think I just can't find the enthusiasm to do them.

  • @bomdelux Thats exactly what i mean. You have to find inspiration and enthusiasm so its easier to progress... or else it'll be tedious work. But you can do it. Just tell yourself you can do it and believe it... look into all genres and musicians not only guitarist but pianists as well and etc.

  • @reaperofgenocide I do everything I can to get inspiration, I often listen to and learn to play vocal lines instead of guitar parts because they are more interesting melodically a lot of the time, but the thing that is holding me back is technique. I need to put in the boring metronome work to iron out the kinks in my playing and it just puts me off practicing a lot of the time.

  • @bomdelux yeah the trick is to do what ever works. Just keep it up.

  • Dont listen to nch09snow ... hes just giving alex hutchings a well earned compliment because he IS alex hutchings. But the reality is that ANYONE can be the next alex hutchings or be a great guitarist. Theres literally hundreds of unknown great guitarists, heck maybe even thousands. Anyone can be a great guitarist.. but it depends on the level of great guitarist. Theres great guitarists.. then theres virtuoso's. Ppl like guthrie govan and alex hutchings could be considered virtuoso.

  • thank you , alex !!!!

  • comment on what?

    just enjoy this moment

  • @tony91816

    You mean 9 deaf men.

I'm a technique freak myself and 90% of what I look at in a guitarist is an excellent technique. But this guy, that 10% is just that good that I don't need to worry. Although his technique is great anyway!

  • 9 blind man

  • he's ugly playing

  • 7 people hit the "dislike" button? What is wrong with you?

  • Comments are pointless. Just listen to it again.

  • 7 people listen to only hardcore and indie bands

  • @TheDkbaumbach Three newcomers disliked the video and thumbed you up because they listened to hardcore and indie.

  • awesome faces :D

  • BOMBA

  • i love how he sells the dream!!XD

  • speechless...........completely speechless

  • Strange how somebodys facial expressions can ruin much of the experience..Not looking and only listening is the way to go here..Great playing

  • my teacher once said: that cool, give a desire to eat this sound!

very nice.. do you have a recorded cd ??? where we can download??

my name is Bento Santos i also play guitar..........very nice!!!!

  • This is the best guitar video in Youtube! Just amazing! Makes me really happy!

  • this is toooo goood! i keep watching this vid over and over.

  • "Shredding" is easy....shredding phrases that sound great in PERFECT tempo to a song...now THAT'S a challenge :)

  • @fakeemailbox I totally agree, to make it so tastefully shredtastic and soulful is hard. On top of that he has perfect touch, phrasing, and as you said timing/tempo. No matter what speed the song is he doubles then half time and all at perfect tempo and phrasing. Just great, actually reminds me of the jazzier tunes on Jimmy Herrings Life Boat Serinade album. Which if you haven't heard that its incredible.

  • you are one of my fav guitarist! such powerful phrasing

  • 4 Haters!

  • this guy reminds me in appearance of andy mckee for some reason

  • Outstanding

  • @eizlanbotak dun say it that way..i feel that both alex and guthrie are unique in their own way..there is no who's better...if you really study their techniques they are almost similar

  • @ilovemaiden88 there techniques are so completely different it's medically fascinating that you would think that.

  • Who is this Larry? And why is he so happy?

  • @itsthearistocrat larry carlton...

  • @gaspandco OF COURSE!

  • Awesome, great playing !

  • elevator music

  • Mind blowing playing. Like I've heard every big name fusion, shred, blues, and jazz guitarist around to make note of and I've never, ever heard chops like this guy.

    Fucking wow.

  • this guy better than guthrie...sorry

  • One of this is true: Burned maple or decolored rosewood fretboard

  • Artists = Larry?! haha

  • Everytime I watch this I just close my eyes and smile. I actually get as happy as Larry.

  • guitar playing to put a smile on your face.

  • Next G3 formation: Alex Hutchings, Guthrie Govan and Andy Timmons. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @rrrcorvesco oh fuck yeah!

  • @rrrcorvesco You still need Joe Satriani he created the G3 DUH!

  • Comment removed

  • @Royart142 I know! Think it was easy for me to not mention him? Damn... then it should be G4!!! Now THAT would be awesome!

  • @rrrcorvesco Now we're getting onto something

  • @rrrcorvesco Andy Timmons? More like Jack Tharumat or Tom Quayle

  • @DemonBird Sorry, I like Andy Timmons better. But that's just my opinion.

  • @rrrcorvesco yeah man thts kl :)

  • I cannot find the words to accurately describe his phrasing.

  • I like this turn, Larry Play Like this never.

  • Part i hate its 3 : 01. 0:00 rules. :D

  • your guitar Sound is amazing! What's your Gear??

  • your guitar Sound is amazing! What's your Gear??

  • Im So Happy As Larry now

  • After watching this tasty video, i'm so hungry.

  • I really admire you guys, chromatic jazz that you always play really made me mad and obsessed and inspired to learn, is there someone who can give me guitar pro tabs of this song?? :'( help me please

  • Is a dog barking at 1:29???

  • @HeilTheOperator ha! h.i heard it too but no...

  • GREAT and heartfelt playing !!!!

  • i enjoyed that !

  • 1.37 is such a B.B. King facial expression :')

  • @LaurieBuchananMusic Can't you see Alex is weapon 11? He has all the strong features of the best guitarists and non of their weaknesses.

  • I retract my previous comment, I went on the package site and it specifies both ;) thanks guys!

  • I'm probably going to buy this to expand my jazzy vocab and I was wondering if the tabs are in standard tuning because I don't wanna re-setup my trem for perfect 4ths tuning since Im so busy haha =P

  • @MrAoom23 megaupload more like it... :)

  • listen to jess lewis playing this song!!

  • @Speedabob if you played E dorian youd be in the key of D major and this tune is in E flat

  • If Alex shaved his head he would look like Cody Ross

  • 2 dislikes?

    must of been women

  • Yeah Jazz phrasings can be a bitch :P they don't really fit to one mode, but most of them are done just in pentatonic in different positions with a flat 5th added as the blues note, but obviously it's not just that simple :L you can add different passing notes to it depending on the current chord or mode, but mixing modes can always sound quite good, like aeolian and dorian or something, or mixolydian and phrygian, but there's a couple that don't go together that well, like Ionian and Locrian :/

  • @xNeonShade

Cheers for the help man. So basically if I were to play E Dorian, I could also play E Mixolydian and E Aeolion? Or just Dorian and Aeolion?

  • @Speedabob I can't see dorian and mixolydian going well in many places, but that's just me, just try things out, everyone has their own style, I'm sure there's things that work for you that I wouldn't really use and vice versa :) just wanna make sure you already know, a mode isn't just determined by the scale you use, it's more aobut the chord progression really, for example you could technically play G major chords and play B phryg over it and it'd fit fine, just experiment haha, have fun! :')

  • what mode is this in?

  • @Speedabob You can't really give it a mode 'cause of all the chromatic notes and diminished chords etc.. But if you were to try it'd be roughly something like dorian with inflections of locrian, hope that's of any help at all lmao

  • @xNeonShade

I guess that makes a little sense to me :P I just can't get the phrasing of Jazz Fusion which takes the pee! So you are saying he mixes modes, So I should try that too? :)

  • @Speedabob

    Alex Hutchings mode...

  • WOW!!!!...Its great to see that the Geico caveman finally got another gig.

  • Alex hutchings is one of the best guitarists in the world!! Very Very brillant!!!!

  • If Larry is half as happy as I am everytime I listen to this, he's had a good day.

  • alex hutchings + zen master govan. i less than three you.

  • luv this guy's made my day...bravo!!!

  • Alex is the next Larry Carlton, this song would make Larry happier then ever! Wonderful, simply wonderful, today was my first time listening to Alex, incredible! If anyone knows his schedule, if he's touring soon, please message me! Thanks!

  • I love the way you express your feeling!! Great music!!

  • HAPPY AS LARRY CARLTON, WAKE UP NOOBS DUMMIES!!!!!

  • yoo could anyone tell me what guitar he is using please?

    thanks Jack

  • @slash93jack

Hi dude, it's a Musicman Axis Sport.

  • @slash93jack Ernie Ball Musicman

  • I believe i just saw and heard a genius.

  • Jack Black On Guitar! :D

  • Real nice guitar melody, which I need more.

    Favorite.

  • GREAT SONG! Who the fuck is Larry?

  • @MerchantOfDeath69 Oh wow!!! Larry Carlton! Hello?

  • @MerchantOfDeath69

Really?? if thats a genuine question, then its just an english phrase...

  • can you please tell me wich amp are using for this song??i love this sound!!

  • Wow, what an amazing guitarist ! Plays fast with a lot of soul, great sounding. But... I feel like I'm in a supermarket from the 80's when I hear this kind of music.

  • @edmatper

I would like to know what supermarket that is, cause i would get my groceries there any day !! ;-P

    awesome playing, love it.

    Cheers,

  • I got really excited that it says "playing at the Cellars at Eastney" under this video cos that's where I live, but that's for a different artist :( what the hells man. who is responsible?

  • The only thing more depressing than the end of this magical journey is the last slice of pizza.

  • I like how he's already feeling the next phrase in the pause at 1:05 ...

  • I've been practicing this song, and shot video.

     Come see my video

  • Thank God for this guy :DDD

  • love the faces of blues players. you think its involuntary?

  • Seriously. why the hell does my crappy fad video I made called "chocolate pingas" have more views than this? Whats the world coming to? :o

  • wow nice tone can u tell me the pickups of this guitar sound like a paf pro

  • That LA / West Coast / smooth pop jazzy thingy sound is probably as bland as it gets, but his playing is phenomenal. Extremely clean.

  • Comment removed

  • that was friggin orgasmic

  • Larry's ex wife and her mother have been here ...

  • i just cant understand how his left hands grabs all those notes and the right hand is doing almost nothing

  • @xxCAGExx it's legato technique. much easier to do that on piano or something else, but on guitar legato is kind of hard

  • can someone please tab this? this song is so beautiful!

  • what amp and gear did he use in this video?

  • @bklixuz his amp is the laney, of what model I don't know. his guitar is some form of the wolfgang. as far as I know, no other effects

  • @MrChanieldang

Its actually a Music Man guitar, the amp is a Fender Princeton, pretty sure he is using a RAT pedal in front. 1x12 Cornford Cab, not sure of the mics, probably the basic 57 up close and a condenser/ribbon further back. Then in the mix, some compression, EQ, delay and reverb.

  • @JerrickCrites oh right, that guitar is a musicman, haha I can't believe I mixed that up. as for the fender, yeah he's using it in this particular video but I think Hutchings uses his laney as his main amp right?

  • hey alex.....i see u are prefer the musicman then G&L...

  • HI There! I'm Larry :)

  • awesome warm sound i wish i had thoughy

  • Comment removed

  • Like skating on ice.. without skates.. just glides along!

  • perfect feeling !!

  • I suspect if Larry is half as happy as I am after listening to Alex, he's one happy dude.

  • Just beautiful melodically, harmonically and technically! I have loved Carlton for years and Alex is without doubt the most sophisticated of all those taking on Larry's legacy. And he can play in any other style too - definitely not fair to us mere mortals!!! Steely Dan really need to check out Alex ASAP, he's so much better than Jon Herington who has never really displayed the sophistication of his predecessors.

  • 0:32 EPIC harmony!

  • am i right in thinking this guys makes satch look pretty normal. and i love satch like all of us!! i'm confused.

  • hes good he sounds just like guntheri govan but a little less speed

  • Comment removed

  • just because you're jealous/envious of what this man can do doesn't have the right for these 2 morons to dislike any of Alex's work..and if so i wish they can put a good explanation or a video response to make it plausable

  • Not only is Alex happy as Larry - he's also 5 times as good :)

What a master, marvel and sensation this guy is !!

  • @horncrazy403 forgive me if i'm wrong but are you saying he's five times better than Larry Carlton?

  • @danboyguitar94 Hope I didn't offend anyone? It's purely my opinion but its a very educated opinion. I've studied Carlton since the 70's and he is indeed a genius and a master of FEEL but Alex takes it to an entirely new and higher level.

  • @horncrazy403 Five times as good as Larry Carlton? In what respect exactly? I respect your opinion, but it certainly ain't mine! I like this guy, but I'd sooner listen to Larry - I'm pretty certain that Alex, whose clearly listened ot a lot of Larry, would agree with you on that!

Go and listen to Larry Carlton's solo live on Bubble Shuffle here on YT - live on stage with a band, with a sound to die for and fantastic feel and dynamics in EVERY note. Still, you're entitled to your opinion.

  • @twangbarfly And just to be crystal clear, I am not putting down Alex - whose playing I respect greatly.

  • @twangbarfly Erm ... I meant Alex WOULDN'T agree with your assessment of him as 5 times better than Larry....

  • tasty!!!!

  • he's like a predator while playing..

  • Amazing!!

  • Please include this song in your CD.

  • I have been listening to alex's songs for months now I really love his styles.

does anyone know what gear he uses? I assume he's using the fender amp behind him that is turned on? what pedals does he use for his dirt sound?

  • Gente esse cara toca muiiiito

  • 0:15 - legato madness

  • There is three things good in Life : Sex,Chocolate and This Song.
