The Martin D-45 that Young recorded this song with is believed to have been owned at one time by Hank Williams Sr. It is possible the reference applies to both musicians.
I've commented before that it's amazing that the first named: Hank Marvin of the Shadows, is ignored. Look at the back cover of "Buffalo Springfield Again", and Young puts Marvin's name first in an illustrious list... He loved, and still does, Marvin's playing.
I really liked your version of this song. Well done....and I am a diehard Neil Young fan. Hank to Hendrix is one of my favorites. But great job! Great harp music!
Should have included a photo of "Hank" as well. Note this is Hank MARVIN and not Williams that Neil Young is singing about. But I suppose you have not heard of him.
Randy Bachman and Neil Young are great friends for decades says:
"I believe that everything I ever needed to learn on guitar was in my first two years of hungry learning: Scotty Moore, Hank Marvin, Chet Atkins...That was my training and I believe it was also Neils. When we do a solo today, there are always "quotes" from Hank Marvin... We both still have an echo repeat on most guitar solos and use the wang bar more than others do."
That last sentence describes "The Hank Marvin Method". Enough?
@customanalogue Im not questioning your comment, but how do you know that? I could see where Neil Young would be a fan of Hank Marvin. Ive listened to this song since I was 10 and always thought it was Hank Williams. Thanks for a new useless piece of knowledge.
Isn't youtube mostly about useless knowledge? So don't blame me. LOL
Just because you 'thought' it was Hank Williams, that doesn't make it right. Let me guess, you are from the US? Neil Young is a Canadian and so is Randy Bachman. Hank Marvin was the sound behind The Shadows and they never made it big in the US, but they were BIG in Canada.
But think about it, Hank Marvin and Hendrix DOES fit together. They are both all-time legends and innovators, not in country music, but rock.
@customanalogue hey thanks for letting me know. I just thought that maybe he was referencing Hank Williams since he is a huge fan and owns one of Hank's guitars that he uses in live performance and talks about. Hank Marvin and Hendrix do fit together lyrically in the song, but its an easy assumption to think its HW for the fact that he is a fan. Must be for the fact i'm from the US right? let me guess, you're not. It's okay. CANADA FOR LIFE! hater
Google "Twang - A Tribute to Hank Marvin" and this was the name of an album recorded in 1995.
Ritchie Blackmore, Deep Purple, Brian May, Queen, Mark Knofler, Peter Green, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton, Andy Summers, Police, Keith Urban, Tony Yommi, Black Sabbath, Bela Fleck and... NEIL YOUNG on track 7. Liner notes by Pete Townshend, The Who.
In 2005 Neil Young was at the last show of The Shadows Final Tour in UK, as was Randy Bachman, both flew over. Brian May was there too.
this is a good cover but i think you should make it a bit clear in the title that is a COVER and not really neil young as thousands of people wood be lookin for this song and wood be confused over the titles u have

A few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand 10019550
