  • what a million dollar smile!!!!!!!!!! I remember to atch this at the theatre and I was like WOW. I even thought he was smiling at me!!!!!!! great scene :)

  • @Genie1066 me too was great

  • christopher reeve returning to heaven

  • I do that smile every time I get done shaving Lol

  • the smile that launched a thousand..SPACE SHIPS! :)

  • i was brought up on a diet of superman/batman comics. i went to the cinema with my late mother and then wee boy to see the first superman movie. when christopher reeve appeared as superman i was in tears. he was, and is, superman. it was brilliant. god rest christopher, you brought my dreams to life.

  • Maybe it's the Music,

Maybe it's the Sun Rising in the Distance....

No it's the Smile at the End.

  • A legend smiling:)

  • His Cape flapping in the wind.. of the Universe?

  • No doubt...this is SUPERMAN!!!!

  • Reeve is SUPERMAN!!!!!

  • @Guillerminor - Brandon Routh was pretty good and so was Tom Welling. This new brit wont do it for me

  • Reeve is the best superman actor

  • christopher reeve was so bad-ass lol. R.I.P.!!

  • Reeve will be Superman FOREVER!!

  • Chris Reeve is the only one Superman.

Kirk Alyn: Atom Man vs Superman

George Reeves. The adventure of Superman.

    Brando Routh: Superman returns.

Dean Cain. Lois and Clark the new adventure of Superman

Tom Welling. Clark Kent in Smaville.

Hanry Cavill. Man of the Steel.

CHRISTOPHER REEVE. Only SUPERMAN the title

I love Superman thx to Christopher Reeve.

  • ok i'm bloody crying!

  • Kick ass John Williams music! This theme was played in "Quest for Camelot". When I hear it I screamed in horror.

  • Christopher Reeve departed from a world of evil into the next world of pure excellence and eternal bliss

  • That's how Smallville SHOULD have ended!

  • Having him break the "4th wall" and smile at us was perfect. It made his Superman seem so REAL. Reeve did such a great job in this that he's made it nearly impossible for anyone to follow in his footsteps and be taken seriously. All successors will undoubtedly be compared to him for decades to come....

  • @robopenis i think he broke the fifth wall by smiling at us

  • superman's god 5d vision. :)

  • They do say that the actors should never look directly into the camera lens ... But thank god he DID because it just makes this scene absolutely perfect! Christopher Reeve is now and ALWAYS WILL BE the one and only Superman!

  • His smiling at the camera is one of those ingenious moments that's just perfect but you don't know why.

  • Chris, Tom and Dean are the best superman actors!

Wish the new superman henry cavill good luck!

  • @UltimateTARDIS Yeah, except for Dean, I really like the others better

  • @UltimateTARDIS Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh!

  • always brings a tear to my eye wheni see this scene

  • OK- who else as a little girl squealed in delight at the smile and kept saying 'Superman smiled at me!'

  • How could they not end Smallville with this scene. Seriously.

  • @FuzzMD I agree with u 100%

  • No Superman can smile like Chris could, rest in peace my friend.

  • henry cavill won't be copying christopher reeve, man of steel will be great, it has to be great or we may never see a superman movie again

  • Most comic book movies today still cant touch this movie...

  • Brandon Routh did a decent job in my opinion, but the one thing that always irked me was he never did smile on his end flying scene. That really made the whole performance feel more hollow than it probably was (for me at least).

Reeve is the best, but I'm always willing to give someone else a shot. Superman deserves that at least. Here's hoping Henry Cavill can bring soul to the character again.

  • There is only one Superman.......And no one can or should even attempt to try and copy him!!!!

    *Looks angrily at Brandon Routh*

  • I am convinced that any one in real life that hates Superman must be evil

  • Christopher Reeves is ONLY Superman, NOT others. If he would be alive and walk again, Im sure he would do Superman Returns.

  • lol at ending lololol

    99999999999999999999999999999999999999999/10

    jk! 10/10

  • I ve been a fan of superman at the age of 5 i am 21 nw and i still a huge fan of superman and so is my gf lol think that hes on of the best heros ever !

  • Henry Cavill has got some HUGE boots to fill.

  • I hope the final shot of Smallville is Superman flying off and smiling at the camera like this.

  • @BrandonRhea : That would be AWESOME!

  • @BrandonRhea OH GOD YES!!!! You read my mind! Id love for Smallville to end like that. Id probably shead a tear if it did...

  • @BrandonRhea My thought's exactly, but sadly it's not! =(

  • @BrandonRhea Close!

  • @BrandonRhea Bet your pissed off now then lol

  • @BrandonRhea The final shot of Superman Returns = Superman The Movie. Go foward Reeve and Routh :-)

  • @BrandonRhea It wasn't...

  • @BrandonRhea I take it you already saw the tiny dot in the background that was supposed to be Superman on the finale.

  • @BrandonRhea oooooo unlucky

  • didn't Michael Keaton and Christopher Reeve star together in the movie Speechless?

  • @nobodysperfect06, yep two of the original and best actors (IMO) to play superheroes in the same movie! Also a year after that CR had his riding accident.

  • I don't like superman that much, but watching Christopher Reeves makes me feel that i'm watching the real man of steel.

  • RIP Christopher Reeve... you will always be the greatest Superman...

  • @nagee76 truer words were never typed

  • @nagee76 He was the ONLY Superman.

  • @nagee76 Couldn't agree more. Long live Christopher Reeve: the real-life Superman!

  • CHRISTOPHER REEVE IS THE ONLY SUPERMAN.

  • something about that just makes you feel good. even with today tech and effects, you can't beat the smile, the theme, the whole movie

  • Christopher Reeve has the best Superman smile, well, Christopher Reeve is the BEST SUPERMAN ever! Everybody are just copycats! No one comes close!

  • @personalkoment Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, and Dean Cain didn't copy him.

  • the way he flying damn i need 1 bullet to kill myself

  • I think the best thing about Christopher Reeve's Superman is that you can genuinely LIKE him -- which isn't as easy as it sounds considering that as a superhero with godlike powers, Superman falls into the category of the high school football jock who's easy to admire but (like Mega Mind's Metro Man) almost as easy to secretly despise.

In Reeve's case, though, Superman is such a decent guy that it's impossible not to think of him as a really good friend.

  • shiver.

  • jayce you are stupid cris version is unique

  • Brandon Routh is a fucking faggot. He brought disgrace to the character with his faggotry and weakness and inexistent acting skills.

  • @Svittidiu - he wasn't as perfect as Reeve, but what you just said is plain mean.

  • i can't help but smile back at superman when he smiled at the screen

  • love this!

  • My mom used to tell me that he was looking for me and smiling just at me. Even today I can't watch this without getting a big grin and a blush. I miss Christopher Reeve.

  • @Kevinlclayjr He's not going to choose Brandon Routh. He sucks.... sorry Hon. Women like myself what a "real man" and Tom Welling is "well endowed". Brandon has a small cock for a man his size. Superman should be well endowed, not " small pee-pee" as the size of my pinky finger like Mr. Routh. You're gay aren't you sweety?

RpintorO, Zack Snyder is a legend Hollywood director, he is not going to cast Tom Welling as Superman it will more likely, be Brandon Routh.

  • @Kevinlclayjr,

Brandon Routh is 6 feet 3 inches tall and a professional swimmer if anybody is gay it is yourself. I isn't any of your business how what he does with his personal life. He is married, to actress Courtney Ford so Nooooooo Tom Welling is not bigger than Brandon Routh they are about the same size and same height. Brandon Routh is about 31 years old now he has a birthday this month. Lastly, Heck nooooooo I am not gay I am looking for a sweethearted girl in my hometown CHECK Your S

  • it'd be great if SMALLVILLE ended like that with Clark flying out of the earth like that.

but before that, he's in his barn loft, looking in the mirror, not knowing who he is, and what he's gonna do. but jonathan kent's spirit puts the cape on for him, and says everything is going to be okay!

    YEAH!

  • chirstopher reeve is the one and only superman. This scene made me proud as a kid. That one man can show so much love in one smile is incredible.

  • RIP Chris and Dana.

  • this is superman's smile i always love to see...the ending!

  • Freaken Christopher Reeve . . . Wow.

  • I read on some magazine article that the people making this film decided to take a gamble and cast Christopher Reeve who was then only performing on Broadway rather than big names like Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, Robert Redford, and even Sylvester Stallone. Guess the gamble paid off.

  • @rkc2380 reason y is because an unknown would be much easier to be directed.

  • @timberwolf84 it actually does make sense, thanks for the information.

  • @rkc2380 no prob.

  • Still awesome. The tagline was right: We all believed a man could fly. All of us.

  • I always loved that Superman shared in the victory over Lex Luthor with the warden and his men. "We're all part of the same team." As a kid, every time I'd see him fly off at the end, I was sure he was watching down over me and my friends.

God bless all involved with this film because they gave the kids of my generation a true hero to look up to and strive to be like. This was my first encounter with the Man of Steel and it remains my favorite iteration of him. Christopher Reeve = Superman.

  • Tom Weiling is the current Superman. The torch was literally passed down by Christopher Reeves when he guest starred on Smallville. Even if they go with a costume like from SR, it should have bright red instead of the dark maroon, no "S" on the belt, and have an "S" on the cape. And yes, when Tom does his actual final scene as Superman, he should fly out into space, towards the rising sun and smile for the camera to the John Williams theme.

  • @99mxylptlk - That would be epic - although I would make it that the first reveal is exactly as it was in the movie when Lois is about to fall from the top of a building and Clark races down the street and rips open his shirt.

  • Christopher Reeve is the only true Superman.

  • This is how Smallville should end. Have Tom emerge from the Fortress in "the Suit," then he flies up and does the "Christopher Reeve look at the audience and Smile," and then flies away.

  • @darclyte GOD I hope they end Smallville correctly!!!!! PLEASE let season 10 end RIGHT!!!!!

  • mi hero ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Okay, this scene is kind of cheesy but I LOVE IT at the same time...it's wierd...

  • I love the intro to Superman 2 and of course the ending is nice too! the best!

  • This 45 second clip is better than the whole of Superman Returns.

"No sir, don't thank me Warden, we're all part of the same team". - That one line sums up the character so perfectly.

  • I don't think any other film had kids jumping off their garages (and injuring themselves) thinking they could fly except Superman: The Movie.

  • Awesome. We really did believe a man could fly.

  • Well most of you probably already know this but Christopher Nolan is planning to do a Superman reboot. I hope that's true because maybe we'll actually see a good superman moviie. Lord knows we haven't had one of those in a long time. I mean Superman IV was an atrocious pile of crap and Superman Returns was OK but it could have been a whole lot better. I don't think Brandon Routh is on the same Level as Christopher Reeve but maybe Nolan will find someone who is.

  • @HelloFade2 As bad as Superman IV was, was worlds better than Superman III. You have to admit that.

  • @chrismc410 No, Superman III was far better then IV. The Junk Yard scene alone is better then Superman IV.

  • @ojideagu The junkyard scene is epic, you.

  • @MasterMacLeod,

Heyyyy !!! buddy the junkyard scene from Richard Lester's Superman III was EPIC !!! I'm starting to compare its EPICness !!! with Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever and Superman IV's terribleness to Joel Schumacher's Batman and Robin in 1997. MasterMacLeod What do, you think about the intimidation factor between Bane, Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze compared, to Nuclear Man?

  • @Kevinlclayjr I don't know what an "intimidation factor" is because I only fear myself! Or maybe you mean what's more badass, in which case I'd say none of them is better than the other.

  • @MasterMacLeod,

What I meant by intimidation factor, is who is more dangerous between Bane, Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze versus Nuclear Man. I know that Nuclear is far worse because, he can manipulate the weather and bring destruction to the world but, Superman will stop him. Master, you can't fear yourself as yourself you can fear the destructive nature Satan implanted in you to hurt others. What, you should fear is Almighty God who can cast your body and soul in Hell fear that my man.

  • @Kevinlclayjr And you call yourself a Catholic? They don't even teach that anymore!

  • @MasterMacLeod,

I am not a Catholic Christian and there are Catholics that believe in The Holy Trinity, Jesus's death and resurrection and him being the son of God as I believe. I am an Orthodox Christian and I believe what the Baptists, Catholics those that believe the truth, Jewish and so on. Master, you are all the way wrong Orthodox Christian Bibles record, Scripture that God say's not to fear those that can kill the body but, not the soul. Fear him who can cast both body and soul in H.

  • @Kevinlclayjr What? Your writing is astounding.

  • @MasterMacLeod, Why, thank you my brother God's word does not lie in fact, God said let him be truth and everyone else a liar because, there are no lies in him only truth. Satan on the opposite hand thou is the father of lies he is also, a murderer and deceiver. Jesus Christ said, that The thief cometh not, but to kill, steal and destroy. Jesus, said but, I come that you might have life and have it more abundantly. Master, Do you except Jesus as your Lord and Savior he loves you man.

  • @Kevinlclayjr except?

  • @MasterMacLeod,

God bless you my brother Jesus trully loves you and he wants you to be with him in Heaven. You don't know this MasterMacLeod but, God has hosts upon hosts of mighty angels looking out for you. God said, he reigns on the just and unjust meaning, the righteous and unrighteous. Satan desires to destroy you but, you are protected by Almighty God and Satan can't do anything unless God allows it to happen. Master, when you except Christ you will have a new life separate from old l

  • @ojideagu, Superman III was far better than Superman IV: The Quest For Peace I did like the idea of Superman facing off against a man that was created, from Superman's own DNA. The junkyard scene from Superman III was better because, Superman after being exposed, to synthetic tobacco Kryptonite didn't die from it but, his evil dark personality came out the part of all of us that we battle with all the time. Clark Kent the alterego of Superman battled the evil side of his own self and won.

  • @chrismc410,

Superman III made nearly 100 Million dollars worldwide Superman IV was in the low estimate percentage not very good at all. Superman IV could have been better with the jokes limited or cut out of the film. Superman vs. Nuclear Man sounded like a great EPIC !!! battle but, Nuclear Man had a weakness he could only operate when the Sun was beaming down on him.

  • @HelloFade2 I don't know, but if Nolan swaps the Superman theme as he did with Batman's, people will cry bloody murder.

  • I agre that smile made all of us a superman fan, i still think that he smiles at me, jeje, RIP Chris. the goat..

  • the ending 'fly by' was replicated for superman returns; a nice tribute to the original movies.

  • Yeah, but I think singer fucked it up by not having him smile at the camera, he just flew by.

  • hes fuckin christopher reeves like seriously dude he is the only superman EVER nice try bradon

  • @mak3yasmiil3

I like Brandon, but nobody even comes close.

  • @mak3yasmiil3 I much prefer George Reeves.

  • @mak3yasmiil3 You dont even know is name, asshead.

  • Comment removed

  • @mak3yasmiil3 :-) and Brandon did try very hard!!!!!!!!!

  • @theman2017inc smallville needs to end like this :P

  • I love it when he says, "Good night!" GREAT way to end the film (and even better if you finish the film in the evening). That smile gets me EVERYTIME. We love ya Chris!

  • I don't want to take anything away from the newer film, but ti just felt like they were trying to copy the christopher reeves superman and the newer would've been better if they went their own way. At least a bit more creative than just a showcase for superman's powers and abilities!

  • legend!!!

  • superclass idol.......

  • What amazes me is that with the technology they had they were able to do effects this good.

  • I love how he just floats up all smooth at 0:07. Still gives me goosebumps and makes me feel like a kid again.

  • This is some powerful scene.

  • Superman Returns ending should've been something like this

Routh just shows u his gut then flies off...

  • actually if you look close u can see Routh smile.its just not a full (teeth showing) smile like Reeve's. but i do think Routh should've given a full smile.

  • nah...it didn't have the same effect though

Should've put more emphasis on the ending scene to make it more iconic,..the music wasn't all that great either and didn't fit very well

I was looking foward to seeing how they would do the ending scene but when i saw it, it was a big letdown..=/

  • Iconic

  • with class & style. my favorite soundtrack. a beautiful scene. ****

  • Even with the ridiculous turning back the earth and time thing in the climax, I dare anyone to not sing this movie praises, I mean it upstages most Superhero movies even today and in my eyes even upstages The Dark Knight (which is not to say I don't like TDK, I'm a HUGE fan).

  • He did not turn the earth back. He flew back in time, by breaking the light speed barrier. The earth turning was a visual representation of time being reversed.

  • I prefer to think of it that way too. But if you watch it he actually spins in the opposite direction to return the earth's spin to normal again.

  • He never EVER turned Earth back.

  • its like Christopher Reeve was meant to be put on this earth to be Superman, he plays it naturally

  • Comment removed

  • That's my favorite part....beautiful thanks!

  • "No, don't thank me; we're all part of the same team!" As Williams' music plays, only Reeve could say that line and make it sound so sincere and awesome.

  • thts wot made the film so iconic, the sincerity of reeve gave hope to millions and by god, it still does.

  • with that smile he touched each and every person watching. i know i'm not the only one who felt that he smiled at you and you alone. R.I.P. Christopher Reeve a.k.a. Superman.

  • exactly, he smiled at YOU, not his fcking pay cheque, a true inspiration.

  • I found his smile condescending as a child. I always felt he was sneering at me for not being able to fly.

  • i must admit i got cool goosepimples when i was a kid and watched that scene.......class!

  • @bjevansca1 Yeah and last Saturday, had he lived, would've been a youthful 58 year old. :-( RIP Chris.

  • yeah, there is only one superman, Christopher Reeve. Absolutely perfect for the role. Such a shame about what happened to him in real life. Although he did a lot for spinal cord research. I really though he would live to walk again. GOD had other things is mind for him.

  • He is flying in space, and his cape is wiggling, but there is no air in space...

  • and i also wasnt aware that people could fly in space with a cape, LOL god its a SUPERHERO movie, we didnt ask for scientific examinations, but then agen, after watching this YOULL BELIEVE A MAN CAN FLY.

  • I remeber seeing this movie in 78' The audience gave the film a standing ovation at the end.

  • Christopher Reeve, best and only superman ever.

  • wow im 10 again in 78

  • When he smiled, I can't help but smile as well. :D
