What do you mean we don't really need a licence for big bikes? Since moving to Malaysia from Australia, I've needed to get a full B-class licence for big bikes. Of course, to some extend, your right...we don't need a licence for big bikes because there are no real cops and no road laws to actually speak of :-P

@SuperSonicPsykic The Versys' top speed should be around 125 - 130 mph, more or less like the V-Strom 650 that I had the chance to test a couple of years ago. Cheers!
Great bike. I've got an 09. I'm 5'6" the seat height was a little bit of an issue for me. Found a lowering kit on line. Now the bike is just about perfect.
...so the government in Britain feels it necessary to restrict someone under 21 from riding the motorcycle of their choice... sounds like age discrimination to me
@MAK3BELIEV3 I'm 5'6" and I ride a Kawasaki KLX250sf. It has a seat height of 860mm. I can ride it safely. Usually I put one foot down flat and leave the other on the peg. The Versys has a seat height of 840mm even lower than the KLX. Don't let the seat height scare you away. Go check it out.
I'm 5'8" and I too ride a KLX250sf. I'm a beginner and the seat height was an issue in August when I started, but now not so much. Like you, I've gotten pretty good at stopping with one foot down and one on the peg. Still, it would be a good feeling to have both feet on the ground while stopped in traffic. I like the Versys, but if I can't sit on it flat footed I'm going to look at something else... maybe an ER-6N.
Good review, good video work, but its more of a first or base review, long term would be 6 months to a year, 5000 miles, or a very long 750 to 1500 mile jurney, but very good work, you covered alot in a short amount of time, good work
The brits need a 33 hp limitation for the first few years because they drive on the wrong side of the road. Here in america we know which side of the road to ride on so we don't need the limitation.
think the 33hp rule is stupid yes for 6 months but 2 years!!!! I am a mature rider and so passed my test at 18 then 20 years with out a bike when I went back to rideing got a sv650 MORE than enough for first big bike loved it and learning to ride again
In my book education is the key NOT restrictions!!
Ride an old R1 now , dont like the play station bikes and still learning !!!

hi, i have a question, i got my motorcycle license when i got 18 years old, do i have to wait until i am 21 or just two years. by the way i am from luxembourg, but isnt it the same for most countries in europe??
Kawasaki's break in period suggestion is total b.s. I've talked to a few kawasaki mechanics that have said that following the suggested break in period is actally bad for the bike.
Over here Its a diffrent system with Learner and Provisional 1 and 2 your restricted to 150 Kilowatts per tonne so you can ride up to 660cc bike so you have more choice and better than the 250cc restrictions also with the bigger bike you can up the power after passing your Ps without buying another bike in Sydney Australia.
70mph... 33bhp on the motorway not enough to get round... ?? Im finding it a doddle, riding the 125 cbr on the motorway for a year then going 33bhp is amazing =] you feel like god on the ride
@neworldman330 In Britain there are several stages you have to go through to get a full motorbike license. One of the stages can be (depending on which license route you take), is a 33BHP restricted bike, meaning your license only lets you ride a bike with BHP upto 33.
@xxGxx46xx wow that would suck for people that wouldnt prat about but wanted to go touring. I think car drivers need the restrictions now not further ones on motorcyclists!
@motorcyclenewsdotcom I am moving to the uk in the fall for work. I have a full canadian motorcycle license. Do you know if I will have an restriction or have to retake my license there? Thanks
@motorcyclenewsdotcom In American you can drive a litter bike at 16 if you want to, and you have crazy parents. you can also have a 50. cal rifle, but you have to wait till your 18 to do that. but if you try and drink a beer and your under 21 they throw you in jail, this Courtney is so backwards.
@motorcyclenewsdotcom This is a pretty good idea. Here in the US, we just let anyone buy anything. A lot of noobs get waaaay too much bike for them and learn the hard way.
@dahveed284 They will let anybody buy, Just about anything to, They just can't ride them, As Intended. They also have a lot of so called " noobs" as well, Just watch there videos. Just wish the US had the same choice's of bikes as they do. People are the same for the most all over the world, When it comes to acting like a nut. Just my 2 cent's
@motorcyclenewsdotcom We need that law here in the USA badly. We get a lot of fools getting their Motorcycle license and climbing directly onto GSXR 1000, Hayabusa with modification, or ZX14s with NO experience to qualify them for monster machines such as those... rather disturbing!
@motorcyclenewsdotcom that's a way better system than here in the usa. every starts with whatever they choose...many choose the R6...too much bike for most.
Wish they had an English speaker to give the review, this guy was impossible to understand. To bad the updated styling on the versys is so hideous. Great bike though.
Well it's the same deal with cars and the same idea applies which is "money doesn't buy skill/brains". Morons will be morons. People buy things they can't handle all the time. I think the staged license would be better than what we have though.

Same applies here in Ireland - except it doesn't matter how old you are when you take your test. FYI

@motorcyclenewsdotcom isn't that a European law? Cause in Belgium, it's also restricted under 21 y

@motorcyclenewsdotcom This is a pretty good idea. Here in the US, we just let anyone buy anything. A lot of noobs get waaaay too much bike for them and learn the hard way.
dahveed284 1 year ago 3

@clevername333 He wasn't the clearest speaker, but his accent was fairly normal, I certainly had no problem understanding him

Longterm review? You've had it for a week!
Good video though, looks like a nice bike.

@bfmv580
It seems he will have the bike for a long term period of review and this was the first update.
Good video. That color is pretty sweet. WOuld be nice if they had it in the states for sure.
