@PAO13071 All three games have a lot of subtext; Mother 3 most of all. The first two games have "Homesickness" which appears if you haven't called your mother in X amount of game time. All of the stars are basically Mama's Boys, which really makes Mother 3. Even Gigyas, the end boss, is attached to a mother figure who raised him. The entire point of the 1st and 2nd games is to retrieve parts of the song that was played to Gigyas by his adopted mother.

@BlitZWTF It's the same series Earthbound is Actually Mother2, however when it came to America the name was switched, possibly because Mother1 was never released in America or Europe. The only way Mother3 and Earthbound are linked game-wise is the fact that Pokey/Porky (name changed due to different translations) was a main villian in both and Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo make a quick cameo in Mother3. (sorry for the long explination)

Well, it's not THAT HARD, at least not the puzzles, but some bosses from the first games are pretty though, and, it's a good series too, all of Nintendo series are High Quality tier and Zelda has action, good story and music as well, but MOTHER has something soo special about it, maybe because it's about kids with normal problems,like Lucas, he can cry, he gets hurt, he laughs, becomes strong etc..., he's not a badass swordfighter, nor a manly racer, but that's what makes it so special! =D

There's a completed fan translation out for Mother 3. I'm not condoning getting a rom and patching it with the translation patch... but it's a way to experience the game you'd otherwise not get to play. Be warned. It is not at all like Earthbound. It really does not feel like the lighthearted adventure against evil that Earthbound was. It's a depressing slog towards an ambiguous ending.

Acrually, the MOTHER 1 was pretty much "happiness and party", exept for the last Magicant visit.
