While Canvas comes from Dutch, Hollands. We used the Cannabis material for a lot of things on the VOC typed ships, but also on the land it had many purposes. Canvas -> Cannabis, we call in Dutch a 'verbastering'. An offspring word.

Actually comes the word from the Middle East, or better Near By East, and is most likely also found in the written Hebrew texts from long ago. However, I have never saw a closed proof seen of the etymology of the word Kanna Boes. In which Cannabis is for sure from the old Greek world.
