@Ultravox1981 Me too. This is the first time I've heard or seen it since childhood ! I didn't remember the battles, I only remembered the oxygum and his girlfriend. I had a crush on her. Hmm, explains a lot about my lovelife since...

@japeyebruno ....yep, I did the same...and bought the series of Robinson Crusoe on DVD too!! what a pair of old saddo's!! :-) Saturdays mornings were heaven back then...Champion the Wonder Horse, Double Deckers, Banana Splits, High Chaparel, Barnaby the Bear and of course Bob Crusoe & Marine Boy!! do you remember The Flashing Blade or The Singing Ringing Tree too? wouldnt swap and of them for the rubbish my kids watch on TV today....they were happy days indeed!! :-)
@colbur16 yea me got singing ringing tree my kid scared of the dwarf, i got flashing blade watched it and sent it back ,cause it was really dated i didnt realize how bad the dubbing and acting was but still good memories, i remember the rest as well as others casey jones, white horses, list goes on i got clangers ,trumpton chigley camberwick green bagpuss captain scarlet all for me kid
I am looking for the name of a TV programme or film shown on British TV 1968- 1974 with... A dress in a tall glass case in a rear corner of a Victorian old ladies bedroom , she is sitting on a chaise lounge in the foreground, and warns a young girl who is admiring the dress, at the back of the room, on the facing left "not to open the case" .
But the girl does when the air rushes inside in a of basic technique of film animation /time frame - the dress dramatically and rapidly falls to pieces!!
I think it's hilarious that there's this really laid-back, sorta lilting tune as things are blowing up and Marine Boy is facing down these bad guys and a robotic spider thing.
@kwolf43 Yes on thinking about it even with Hollywood make-up, once he got into the water it would show him to be the wrinkled old sausage that he is. Perhaps he could play Marine Boy's dad with Justin Beaver as Marine Boy and Lady Gaga as Marina the mermaid ?
@jontibloom : wrong again with lady ga ga she is also to old , she would look a perv with justin , think younger my friend younger say around 10 to 14 year olds.
@KennyThrusts Yes, you are correct. When originally broadcast in the US, circa 1966, there were words: It's Marine Boy, Brave and Free! Fighting evil 'neath the sea. He is a boy, a very special boy, Powered by propeller shoes, flying Sub ahoy! Whooshing through the water on a friendly dolphin's back, Racing to the rescue of victims of attack. In a flash, he'll foil the foe, With a quick boomerang throw! Loyal friend of the sea to the end, Is our Marine Boy."
I used to watch on an old black and white "portable" TV (that weighed about as much as 50 laptops!) and always assumed his suit was green. This will take some getting used to. :-D
Crazy idea: somebody(GE, maybe?I should think it's the least they can do.) releasing a DVD of old japanese cartoons- Marine Boy, Giantor, tobor aka eighth man- to raise money for Japan.
Oh my God....I'm 5 years old again! I remember asking my mum when she went to the shops to bring me back some Oxygum :-) I'm deadly serious. What a trip down memory lane!
Hey I loved this show when I was a kid in came in 69 and I was born in 64 so it fit I use run home from school to see this show and johnny sokko and his flying robot.

I haven't seen this in 41 years. Memory is a strange thing isn't it? I dunno why, but I'm sitting here with tears rolling down my cheeks. Much appreciated post - took me right back to primary school, making electro boomerangs from rulers, and chewing 'Oxygum' [which the teacher made us put in the bin] such happy days. Thanks a lot!
Takes us all back to happier, less complicated times I suppose. Grandma's house (now demolished) using an upside-down coffee table as a submarine. Saturday mornings were great. BTW I'm convinced that Bolton and Piper were copies of Laurel and Hardy, or was that just me?
Sometimes I think that Marine Boy was on steroids. Once, he carried a stone of 80.000 tons, he turned on its own axis quickly with the help of his boots without feeling sick and he survived a trap with water under pressure considering that his head and his hands were unprotected.
Loved this as a kid!!! what memories.... this, along with Space Giants, Johnny Socko, Ultraman and the original Spiderman cartoon, made me one happy kid.
They must have target marketed the Chesapeake Bay region of the U.S. (DC, MD, VA and as far as Philly) with Marine Boy, because I recall when I was in college and mentioned to anyone outside of that area if they remember the show they had no idea what I was talking about.
This really takes me back to a better, less complex time!
We used to make some good Marine Boy boomerangs made of cardboard and paper taped together and throw them around in the back yard to rid the world of evil, just like Marine boy.
This was the best cartoon at that time it brings back good memories it must have been one of the first Manga cartoons, and yet no-ones ever invented Oxy-gum yet lol.
There were two episodes of this show that scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. One was about these carnivorous flowers on an island that sometimes was above the water, and sometimes under the water. The other was about a computer that could squish furniture with its "mind".
I was in elementary school when this cartoon series broadcasted on TVRI ( Indonesian national TV station ). Now I suddenly want to hear this theme song when I look at my marine aquarium tank with hermit crabs, crabs, snails, and other sea creature ... thanks for uploading & sharing ! Greetings from Indonesia ...
Marine Boy was my first love. I can remember sobbing my heart out every time it ended. Just found this link and the tune has brought tears to my eyes. Life was so simple and happy back then!
For years I thought I made this show up as a child! LOL! Can some please help me? I'm trying to recall the name of a cartoon show that was shown in syndication during the early 70's on Saturday mornings (WNBC NYC). He was a little robot boy with "propellers on his feet" (as mentioned in the theme song), his name either TOTO the kid from outer space or TORGO the kid from outer space. Absolutely, no one believes me thing existed! Help! Post footage if you got 'em!
@RX552VBK You sure it wasn't the remake of the Astroboy series? I remember watching that in color as a child during the 70's. If not, try doing a search on childrens cartoons from the 60's cause I haven't found anything in the 70's that comes close to your description. Still, it sounds like astro boy to me but maybe it's one I don't remember. Good luck.
@rawmark Nah, Rawmark. WNBC used to show DODO early Saturday mornings (6am). DODO was originally shown in the early 60's (a few yrs befire I was born). I don't remember Astro boy during the early 70's. However, my sister, 7 yrs older do remember when astro and kimba was broadcasted on WNBC during the '65-'67 season.
@RX552VBK --was it DODO the kid from outer space--??? man!! I rber all those yrs we freaked out over-six million dollar man and bionic woman and i esp went crazy over man from atlantis--patrick duffy-- so crazy over him that i hated the leading lady--belinda montgomery--lol
@yazafara Yep, it was DODO. 6 Mil Mn(ABC), Mn fr Atlantis (CBS)--remember Logan's Run? Based on the '76 movie...wow, great stuff. You loved Pat Duffy, I really wanted to be Steve Austin (had the doll and everything), great show, opening titles and music. I really miss my childhood!
@RX552VBK Oh man!! yeah i DID envy bionic woman and i DID spin like lynda carter--but DID i change into wonder woman??? Nope siree!! and i always wondered wht i did wrong- ps--i still try it once in a while-in the toilet--dont want my family thinkin i have turned into a zombie-lol-didja ever think U cud be bionic man?? i know i want to be super powerful
Another one that brings back memories. I know it has been said a billion times on this post, but I also tried the chewing gum thing, thinking I could swim underwater (NOT), brings back great memories!
This was the one that had 'Oxy-gum' wasn't it?

There were two episodes of this show that scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. One was about these carnivorous flowers on an island that sometimes was above the water, and sometimes under the water. The other was about a computer that could squish furniture with its "mind".

@RX552VBK Are you thinking of Astro Boy? :/
MelanieLouM 1 year ago
@MelanieLouM Nope, I already found a clip of the show I wrote about. It was called DoDo. Check it out on Youtube!
RX552VBK 1 year ago
@RX552VBK You sure it wasn't the remake of the Astroboy series? I remember watching that in color as a child during the 70's. If not, try doing a search on childrens cartoons from the 60's cause I haven't found anything in the 70's that comes close to your description. Still, it sounds like astro boy to me but maybe it's one I don't remember. Good luck.
rawmark 1 year ago
@rawmark Nah, Rawmark. WNBC used to show DODO early Saturday mornings (6am). DODO was originally shown in the early 60's (a few yrs befire I was born). I don't remember Astro boy during the early 70's. However, my sister, 7 yrs older do remember when astro and kimba was broadcasted on WNBC during the '65-'67 season.

Another one that brings back memories. I know it has been said a billion times on this post, but I also tried the chewing gum thing, thinking I could swim underwater (NOT), brings back great memories!

Yeah Dizzygit I did too with my crazy ass thinking I could swim as well. What the hell were we thinking...LMAO

I believe the chewing gum Marine Boy used in order to 'breathe' underwater was referred to as 'Oxy-Gum'' in the cartoon.
