@IBeliebinJBxx Theres more than one way to do it. He is rideable and seems well behaved so I say hes broken in. You don't have to do it one way. All horses are different and respond better to different training. They did a great job with him.
Wahey congrats on backing archie, he looks like a cracking pony. I critque... trainers when riding is highly dangerous anyway but on a baby is not the best idea... just incase you get your feet stuck in the stirrups,,,, the last thing you want is to get dragged.... its damn painful and you'll probs break a collar bone... (or maybe that was just my bad luck) haha.. xx
@MikeandWendy74 just because people use bits does not mean that they are stupid. If used in the correct way a bit is not harmful or detrimental. I can promise you that my pony would NEVER be able to ridden in a bitless bridle. He is stubborn and headstrong, he also plays with his bit constantly, so I don't think he's in pain.
As soon as I saw the bit in his mouth I realised you were not half as intelligent as I thought you might be. you will never unlock that horses potential....you started training him and "breaking" him by making him obey your wishes through pain via a metal bit in his mouth. You need to learn.
@Mikeandwendy74, You clearly have never broken a horse in your life... let alone anything else. Alot of horses and ponies need a bit in their mouth to stop them being headstrong. I'd never hold my horse out hunting without a good bit in his mouth giving me control! everyone (or most anyway) in the UK when breaking use tradition english tack inc a bit... and i'm sure alot round the world do too... stop being narrow minded... next you'll be telling me spurs and a whip are cruel...
@hedidit123 horses dont NEED a bit in their mouth just riders prefer it if a horse is head strong then chances are you need to go back to basics and sort your training out
@Mikeandwendy74 bits do not cause pain if used correctly there was nothing wrong with this vid he became a well mannered little riding pony they don't need to learn anything they are fine the way they are its just sad to see narrow minded people like you hating!
@MegaGagamad and another thing is to improve your seat and keep your heels down.. if she starts acting up sit down in your seat (deeper the better) You can always improve your seat. I've been riding for 12 years and still improving my seat day by day! :)
@MegaGagaMad, the thing I do when working with my colt (who I'm turning into a hunter jumper) is just remember is that they can sense if your scared. Just remember to always have a good upbeat attitude and not just the way you talk but your body Language. another this is to just think of something happy like how good your mare is gonna be after she figure out wht you want! Hope that helps! :)
im 11 and im getting a loan pony in spring its a mare she is welsh sec a cross arab last week i sat on her at owners place so she gets used to me she has been sat on once but that was over a year ago when i was on her my dad pull me of her twice cus she was messing around next week my dad is going to lunge her with me on her back any advise on how to stay on and not to get scared if she starts acting up i dont put my feet in the styrips yet and in spring to you have and tips how to break her in?
sounds silly but the grey horse you see in the corner at 2:36 looks like a pony my sister used to have so could you tell me how old he is please? ive heard nothing since we sold my sisters pony Harvey at the age of about 2 and half :( x
nice job, I am a specialist trainer but also do re-hab and break-ins, it's refreshing to see someone get the order right and train their horse Before attempting to ride it. @wiskyup what a negative nelly you are, in theory that sounds good??? did you not just watch the video? you were watching reality, facts, events that actually happened and if the horse bucks during backing then you have made the mistake of rushing things
In theory that sounds good, but that's all that is, its not fact. In 40+ years of breaking horses I've yet to meet a horse that cares more about themselves then they do about getting something off their back. Their fight or flight instinct never leaves them. Its a mistake to think they won't buck on pavement because my friend, they will.... :) You may discover that one day but I hope for the passengers sake, you don't.
Wow, you took so much time breaking him, you out grew the little guy. For his sake I hope you give him to a kid and go get yourself a horse to carry you around. And who was the brain that thought riding him on the road was a great place to start? Perhaps the grass would be just a little softer for a crash landing? Just wondering :)
@tprodeo different people break horses different ways for instant i break by rubbing a saddle pad over the horse after letting them smell it and then slowly place a saddle down. After a lot of ground work in a saddle and with bit. I then put weight on there back then mount after i get over my weight. I did this with my fathers friend on a stallion and it worked.
"breaking" sounds so... brutal.. :) in germany means "Breaking a horse" (ein pferd brechen), that the horse gives everything up and just "works" like a machine. so you're defnetly not breaking this reaaaaally cute pony, you gained his trust, i would say. =)
@FunnySunshineRider try and think of "breaking" as breaking down the lines of communication between horse and rider instead of the breaking of the horses spirit, I think this rider has done a great job of breaking the communication barrier which doesn't sound that brutal at all Lol. Nothing is good or bad. . . thinking makes it so
we tried the dummy with our pony and it ended up a disaster... :( he broke it and the girth wasnt up tight enough so it ended up under his belly and he broke the fencing (it was electric fencing but not on) and we didnt shut the gates in our field and ended up galloping up the road :s
off course i know everything you say, except: he is too small to my opinion to be a cross Arab-Welsh. I think he is pure welsh... But I could be wrong... And euh... keep it sweet i didn't want to insult you...
@CheyenneSunshine1 Oh, I knowm I know, but if you have a close look at his rump, its very slim. Welsh's have quite a large rump, as I own a welsh B. Sometimes the horse takes after one of the 2 breeds more than the other and in this case, this pony took more after the welsh B.
awwh he looks like my littel studly, he`s almoste broke, i`ve ridden him once and he was super good, we kindda skipped the ridding with lead line step, instead we had him follow another horse without one
I rode a horse who is at least 8 and not broken we try to and we send him to trainors but they cant train. HE is my old horses son! So you are doing a good Job we've tried since he was 4.
@missdaisymay14 i got my pony when he was 8 and he only got backed when he was 5 for all you know there could be a horse that had never been backed in the first place and is dead now.
@missdaisymay14 i got my pony when he was 8 and he only got backed by when he was 5 for all you know there could be a horse that had never been backed in the first place and is dead now.
Good job for actually taking the time and effort to train him! It's a lot of work, and he has clearly been trained well so far. Btw, the pic at 0:17 is hilarious! And sorry, but I have to say this- please don't wear tennis shoes while riding! Especially on a partially trained horse. Just concerned for your safety, that's all. :) Have a great day! Keep up the amazing work!
no that's not true , 3 years old is actually still to young , if you are gonna train them on the age of 3 it isn't good for their back. you don't know anything about it so who is the fucking retard now ?
btw , rehomemyhorse , you just have to train how you think it's the best for your horse , it's yours , you know him so don't listen to these stupid comments (;
@missdaisymay14 I just bought my 5 year old stallion who has had 90 days of under saddle. I have a friend who has a 10 year old thats only had a year of training. It depends on the horse and also the owner. Every horse is different and can handle different things at different times. Also if the owner doesn't have the time or money they may wait until later. Don't be rude, you obviously don't know a lot about training horses.
First of all, bloody gorgeous pony and well done for taking your time with him - it certainly paid off :)
Secondly, the horse on the side of the screen at 2:34 is INCREDIBLY similar to my mare, Charlie :O For a second I was thinking why she was in this video haha!!!
2 13 -started my mustang, about 1 year 6 months after being caught from the wild, when he became an older 2 year old, by sitting on him bareback, no halter or lead or anything, and no step up, one day i just got spunky and jumped on him, he looked at my like 'you nut xD' and went back to eating, has been amazing since and has not tried to throw me, he is a coming 3 year old still and has jumped with me for the first time, so i think its good to get them used to it, unless you know they're touchy
@TwixxyMade of course that is just a suggestion, he has always been easy going, so thats why i did it so carelessly (i shouldnt have but it proved to work, and hey im 15 what can you say?? =P) but i do love the way you nicely trained that pony.. good job :D
Was he easy all the way through or did you film the best bits lol? hes lovely no matter what...Check my Luna video...I got her as an unhandled 11 month old horse...she was my first ever horse too :)

Archie is so lucky to have you as an owner! I am going to get a horse that's 7 years old, and like Archie he hasn't been properly trained (he is broke for riding, just not ground work) do you have any suggestions for teaching him to jump and getting him used to me? Thanks!
What an adorable pony! You guys did an amazing job breaking him, as most people call it, I call it gentling them, if you do it this way, there is absolutely no stress on the horse. You should be proud :)
Very Cute :) We broke our pony a similiar way, except she had already had some idiots previously try to ride her, and she was afraid of people. She's doing camps and lessons now though, and she's been showing so well. Very cute pony-tons of personality in your little guy!
im starting to back a pony at the mo & have never done anything like it before, but i have my yard owner has lots of experience. the thing im anxious about is first starting to canter on him, i know i wont do it until walk & trot are 100% fine, and he is about 8. just wondering, did Archie buck lots when getting him to canter?
great job u guys!!!!!!!! :)) dont listen to the stupid comments.. they are just jealous because they probably havent had the chance to pull something as amazing as this!!!
people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones!! i think all these people who have comented couldnt even sit on a horse who is broken, the pad with stirrips is so the horse can get used to the girth and irons, i would know i brake horses for a living so fuck off and try brake your own horse dick heads.
if your riding with a bareback pad that has stirrups why not just use a saddle....its not really bareback if there is something on the horses back is it???
they did nothing wrong when breaking this horse!!!!! They acually took more steps then i usally see!! They took time to gain this horses trust and in return are going to get a willing partner!!
Emm.. No offense at all but are you riding with the stirrups on the barebackpad? Or is it just for getting used to the saddle for the pony? If you do.. Never do it again it's really damaging for the horses back! But i gotta say you're really good at this!!
@horseluver33 ehh my oppinion riding with stirrups on a barebackpad really isn´t the best ; -) it can be really damaging for the horse's back ;-) because if you really use the stirrups with trotting and for more balance you better still ride with saddle.. cause if you have to use the stirrups on a barebackpad all the pressure is on a few backbones (i don't really know how to call it i'm dutch : ) ) because there's no tree (?) on a barebackpad.. ehh whatever just google it XD bad english hahaa

Cowgirl up and just get on! 9 times outa 10 the horse will be confused and not know what to do.

wow! i'm thinknig about breaking in a pony and you've certainly given me the right approach....thanx
BelsieElsie 1 year ago
if you think a bareback pad is bad then you must think a saddle is bad too!
JumperHunterLover 1 year ago
this is great :) dont listent o everyone else if you want to train yur horse go ahead no ones stopping you and tbh your horse looksa fine with it all
malandrawinter09 1 year ago
people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones!! i think all these people who have comented couldnt even sit on a horse who is broken, the pad with stirrips is so the horse can get used to the girth and irons, i would know i brake horses for a living so fuck off and try brake your own horse dick heads.
TheMissytoshoes 1 year ago
if your riding with a bareback pad that has stirrups why not just use a saddle....its not really bareback if there is something on the horses back is it???
horseluvr06 2 years ago
you are right but they do help because the stirups are down and when you ride it wont be scared of themm..xx
MegaPixiee 2 years ago
i think you should leave the breaking in to proffessionals!
clairmatinaustralia 2 years ago
if you dont have nothing nice to say dont say nothing at all. how does this person braking a horse affect you.???? fucking iddiot.
TheMissytoshoes 1 year ago
you said it right: they're "breaking" this horse.
clairmatinaustralia 1 year ago
they did nothing wrong when breaking this horse!!!!! They acually took more steps then i usally see!! They took time to gain this horses trust and in return are going to get a willing partner!!
ArablvrXoXo 1 year ago
Emm.. No offense at all but are you riding with the stirrups on the barebackpad? Or is it just for getting used to the saddle for the pony? If you do.. Never do it again it's really damaging for the horses back! But i gotta say you're really good at this!!
NieneJonasHorses 2 years ago
@NieneJonasHorses wtf why? theres nothing wrong with bareback pads with stirrups
horseluver33 2 years ago
@horseluver33 Oh yes ther is something wrong!! It can really damage the horses back!! Just google it!
NieneJonasHorses 2 years ago
@NieneJonasHorses if there was something wrong with it the stirrups would not be built into the bareback pad. the horse and his back are just fine
horseluver33 2 years ago
@horseluver33 ehh my oppinion riding with stirrups on a barebackpad really isn´t the best ; -) it can be really damaging for the horse's back ;-) because if you really use the stirrups with trotting and for more balance you better still ride with saddle.. cause if you have to use the stirrups on a barebackpad all the pressure is on a few backbones (i don't really know how to call it i'm dutch : ) ) because there's no tree (?) on a barebackpad.. ehh whatever just google it XD bad english hahaa
