I saw an article about one of the factors behind the rise of antisemitism in Germany (leading to the rise of the Nazis) was that the average German believed that the Jews were responsible for bank collapses in the late 1800's that almost destroyed their economy.

Further, it's important to remember that Jews were hardly successful in any endeavor until modern times. The image of Jews are smart lawyers/doctors/financiers/entertainers/etc...is a purely modern one. Prior to the 18-19th centuries Jews were largely invisible in those areas.

Also one thing to perspective is that Ed isn't blaming ALL Jews, but only saying the ones to blame for financial manipulation are in large proportion Jewish.
