I am a 59kg 23 year old, and i dont consider myself to be fat, but im definately not fit. I have literally started this as of last week, and I am noticing so much difference, even though my diet is not great. It is better than what it used to be, but im not as strict as Tim says we should be, and im still seeing results..win win anyone??
Tim's doing the RKC style swing, which is much safer and more effective then the crossfit style. Bringing the bell too far up over head without a lockout is bad for the back as it puts the spine in compromised postion. Why not just do a snatch? Which is a much more explosive and functional movement. Nice work Tim, now press that damn thing! lol
@djswizz Ok, I Youtube searched it, and found the video you were talking about. Aand Tim is doing the "Russian" variant demostrated in the video. What's the problem again?
@jakeor541 No full range of motion, that's the issue I have. The Russian variant of it is just to move weight but the full benefit is not there. Sure, doing them either way is good and I have no qualms with that. But he is only short changing himself. I do 80lb kb swings above my head and I can assure you, the difference is HUGE in terms of benefits. Try it.
@djswizz the purpose of the rkc kettlebell swing is maximum power generation from the hips, the other swing (american/hero swing) emphasizes going overhead which will take emphasis off the popping of the hips for power. tim is doing the russian kettlebell swing in this case
@djswizz He does actually do other exercises...this is one of them. If you are curious his book "four hour body" tells you what he does..otherwise he wouldnt look like that just from kettlebell swings alone and no deit or other exercise changes. He also goes into scientific theory as to why the kettlebell is one of the most efficient exercise they can do..dont worry i used to think the same thing as you till i read the actual book. :)
wow I was going to ask you what was the weight of the kettlebell until you showed these nice 48kg... 48kg and I almost lost my arms the day I climbed the stairs to my appartment with 25kg paint in each hand haha nice job man! looks like you're playing with some plastic ball :))
@unchiekun he is in his thirties and has spent 10 years learning things such as this. he has travelled the world and met more incredible people than most can count on top of writing two new york times bestsellers. im pretty sure he knows what hes doing...

My trainer at Eclipse Fitness taught me to do this. But with a squat movement when the kettlebell goes up.

Those are NOT kettlebell swings! Not even a chance. No full range of motion! Youtube search for "crossfit kettlebell swing"

@djswizz - Agreed, more hip thrust = higher arc w. less arm/shoulder work. Tim, lower the weight a bit and work on clean form.
