i like it. how does it react to fast motion like skateboarding or art or somthing fast. also would it be ok for somone that has expiriance with cameras abd knows how to use them but needs and hd pro one would this camera be ok for all of this????
@vpastudios If i remember correctly I exported this from Premiere Pro CS2 as a Quicktime with MPEG4 compression. Since then I've changed too exporting as an MPEG2 because I've found that the Youtube flash conversion sometimes makes QT MPEG4 darker for some reason.
@VittaraImage I don't remember what tape I used and the settings were default as far as I know because I didn't change any settings but that doesn't really matter because HDV doesn't have that much latitude to begin with. In other words if you used a different tape brand and camera settings the differences would be rather minor.
@NSASplinterCell thx for thx reply i use the sony digital master,my video don look like the one u have.i dont now man i selling my camara to buy panasoniclol, thx
Whats good? I also have this camera and am trying to figure out how to make the image quality look like this when importing into final cut pro. I cannot get the right settings to work on the HD Log & Capture, any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.
@stevestreits Sorry I don't use Final Cut that often so I can't give you a direct answer but try looking for a setting like HDV 1080i or similar. Hope that helps and sorry for the late reply.
Awesome video! Going to be using this camera soon and I was really nervous about having almost zero DOF control. Well, fortunately you clearly were able to pull focus in some of these shots so that puts some relief in me! Thanks again!
@AEDigitalProduction Default picture profile, default frame rate and do you think that aperture and F stop matter that much on this type of camera? I shot this footage in shutter priority set at 60 and let the camera do the rest.
@lostcause1071 Something very wrong with you "manual of arms". The footage is already digital all you need to do is connect you camera to a computer with a firewire cable and capture with the software of your choice. The analog to digital converter defiantly doesn't need to be there and just on a technical note, I don't know what you mean by true HD, but this camera records in HDV which is not "true HD" anyways.
Do I shoot 24p? Sometimes. Did I shoot this video in 24p? No. Can this camera shoot 24p? Not really. Sony's cinema 24, or whatever it's called, is a poor attempt at a cinema like frame rate. Sony may have improved on future models but from my limited use with this camera's cinema 24 mode made the footage look like the camera was broken.
That depends on what you mean by "movies". Yes this camera will take excellent footage for the HDV format but making "good movies" has little to do with what camera you're using.
Great footage. I am looking to buy and HDV Camcorder but I am torn between the Sony HVR-Z1U and the new HVR-Z5U and I also like the Canon XH A1. Which one would you recommand me to get? Thank You.
Personally I went with the Canon XHA1 because Ive always liked the way the footage looked and it was cheaper that the Sony. The HVR-Z1U was a very user friendly camera to use but I was never impressed with the footage it took. Granted I never got into the custom settings with the HVR-Z1U so I cant claim about its full potential. So really its up to you and what you consider most important in a camera.

Fabulous color tones. I love the HVRZ1U. Do you remember what picture profile was used? What frame rate, aperture and F stop?

How did you import the video? I use a analog to digital converter, but I don't think the true HD comes through with that...
