  • Fingers!

  • That was the softest, most marshmallowy shot I've ever seen. On another note, I've actually picked this up a couple months ago. Threw it hard at the 10 pin and it popped out and knocked the 5 right into the 7.

  • ? this is a decently easy shot whats the big deal? and the announcer "thats the best you can do" no the best you could do is make the split.

  • @elderbowling15 easy shot??? post a vid of you making it then

  • green goblin?

  • forget about the 7 sweeping slow hook left side of 5 pin will do it.. i have seen it done!

  • Now i gotta go look for a video of someone actually doing it..

  • @BuddytheChimp ...You have not got to look very far. Try the link in my description above!

  • it is not impossible to do!

  • I love the face he makes... he just kinda laughs to himself and shrugs it off

  • Is he over the line?

  • Weber had the right idea in '96 or '97.

  • It's the worst feeling in the world when you leave that shot

  • No drive. No Five!!!

  • I just left one of these 3 days ago. I tried for the conversion with the light house ball, but I settled for an 8 pounder instead of a 6 pounder. Needless to say, I somehow threw the shot perfect and the ball didn't deflect enough to cover the 10 pin. Next time I won't settle for anything but 6 pounds......but I'll probably miss the 5 pin.

  • He should have curtsied right after leaving it, lol.

  • Columbia sucks with the 1-3 pocket seriously... Other brands like ebonite and storm would have got some trips, brakes and messengers when you just so much as touch the headpin. However Columbia balls rock the 1-2. The pins would normally fall down slowly but they are likely to trip other pins whereas other brands would blast the balls to the back of the pit...

  • in one of my high school bowling matches, between both teams we had three 5-7-10 and about five 7-10 and all of them were back to back on two different lanes one after another.

  • ...how much did those pins weigh...?!?

  • These are not that hard to pick up. What you gotta do is aim for the 7 pin and create a big hook. The ball should hit the side of the 7 pin and the 7 pin will knock the 10 pin down and then the ball will hook right into the 5 pin.

  • Sour Apple or Lily (5–7–10)

  • Contrary to popular belief, this is the toughest split in bowling!

  • @MONOPOLY35 throw it slow to the left side of the 5 pin so the ball heads to the 7 and the 5 should go to hit the 10, 7-10 is harder because its really just luck after you hit one of the pin

  • @aquakiller8 The 5 pin has to be launched to one side and somehow travel to the other side as well. It is not natural for a typical bowler to throw the ball very slowly without precision problems. Plus, unless you're allowed to grab a rental ball, it is a waste of time to carry a 6 lb ball in case of weird splits. The Lilly is a rare occasion and I have only left it behind twice in my life. My dad bowled a lot, yet he does not remember any occasion of leaving the 5 7 10 because it is unusual.

  • This split isn't impossible...just highly unlikely.

  • I got this split today, one in a million

  • Atleast he did a great try too pick that up, it is amazing too see how even the best shoots can end up like that!

  • And thats why I bowl with STORM

  • @Tezzie01 Storm blows ass.. get MOTIVated =)

  • Doesn't Barnes use a 16 pounder? And it still deflected that much?

  • @caganb I think it would have been pretty sweet if he had left it and picked it up.

  • The ball went a little light, but i didnt think it was that bad

  • i actually am better than him at bowling

  • @klkigar no, no you arent.

  • @hit9uget9 yeah but Ive actually made a spare with that

  • Barnes is a pro at leaving pocket 7-10's, but that ball was DOA to the pocket. It had no drive left and just deflected off of everything.

Only way I've ever seen the "lily" converted for a spare was with a 6-7 pound ball with a lot of revs thrown left to right , getting only a couple boards from the gutter only to hook back, slide the 5 into the 10 and because of the light weight, the ball bounces off the five to the left and the spin on the ball drives it over to take out the 7.

  • Simon: Well, that's a bizarre leave for Barnes

    Me: Ya think? lol

  • he left the lilly

  • Ive bowled a lot of games... never in my life have I left that.

  • I left this twice in 1 set a few months ago...

    Worst moment of my life.

  • weak doesnt even clean it up

  • i picked this up saturday moringing.i hit the 5 pin it bounced over to the 10 pin hit that and the ball bounced out the back and it the 7 pin

  • hahahahhaahh........omg i dont know why but i am so laughing out...omg rofl..i cant believe this is so funny....

  • We have a sour apple. Where? The only lane here! LOL

  • I guess he had the 5 pin off-spot to the left a bit, and the ball just deflected around it. Normally, that would have a pocket 7-10

  • i'd throw it left to right, hits the 5 on an angle, 5 hits the 7, and ball carries on to hit the 10.. dont think it would work but thats what i would do

  • Only A columbia 300 ball can leave that shit

  • @xxRisingDarknessxx56 Pretty much. You wont see that shit with a virtual gravity nano lol.

  • I love Barnes' face the whole time...he looks amused :)

You'd have to kick out the 5 to the side board and get the luckiest of lucky bounces through the back from one side to the other. I've never been able to do it in a video game, let alone on a real lane.

  • lol i had front 5 in tourney and left this... Doh!

  • I saw one of these picked up at the bowling lane i work at just a couple days ago.

12mph ball with 550+rpms on it. Deflected off the 5 and into the 7, sending the 5 into the 10.

    Not impossible...

  • that ball looked good to me, hit pocket and everything...how did those pins stay so solid like that

  • Hardest split ever! No one sees it coming and very few people practice a giant hook. Plus, while the 7 10 requires a jump across the lane, the 5 has to be launched halfway to the side and then launched to the other side. Aside from that, the 5 can be hit and hopefully cause the 7 pin to fall or slide across against the 10. The 7 10 cannot be slided in, but the 5 7 10 opens a very narrow window for sliding with pin action.

  • @theXmenshi: "several" times? If you've left that several times, you must throw a pancake.

  • I've made this before, with my 15lb HAMMER (counterweighted ball) major hook on it. Was able to cut the 5 to the 10 and have the ball hit the 7. Need dry lanes to do ti though, or a light ball like others have mentioned.

  • Since he is a right hander, you hit the 5 pin on the left side which knocks it into the 10 and the ball should take out the 7.

  • @mathematrucker Hmmm... which is just the opposite of what I just said? Either way could work.

  • The king of roll out!

  • I believe the Lilly was a result of too much oil and not enough hook. Flat balls tends to happen that.

  • Barnes must've been bowling with a light ball here (although I can't think why he would be) for the ball to be that dead-on-arrival at the head pin. Can't believe the way that ball deflected off the 1.

  • In order to pick this up you have to hit the 5 pin on the side really damn hard to get it to hit the 7 or 10 and to bounce back for the other pin. Not impossible, just rare.

  • I've never seen this split when I've bowled tenpins (thankfully), but it's a common split in duckpins (bowled around the Washington DC area).

  • It is very possible

  • 0:12 "c'mon chris! you can do it!"

  • ive picked it up several times.

just the same way i pick up just the 7 pin standing.

except it clips the left side of the 5 as its going by sending the 5 into the 10 as the ball continues into the 7 pin.

  • @theXmenshi unless u are using a very light ball like maybe 6-8 lbs the ball will not be able to clip the 5 and continue into the 7. The only way to really get it is to pick up the 5-7 and hope one of the pins bounces out and rolls over to get the 10 pin.

  • @bcrusher3

i know people say stuff but i bowl differently and have picked it up several times the way i said i have..

    with my 15lb ball

  • He should have gave a little curtsey right after that, lol.

  • I got two of the 5-7-10 before. but it's like was like you getting a 5-7 or a 5-10 split, but 5-7-10 is harder to get

  • my mom has a collection of these going, every time someone leaves one she runs down there and takes a pic of it. she's up to about 7

  • If you want to pick this up you have to roll it straight and slower. That hook was ridiculous.

  • This is just a mini Flying Eagle. Not that hard to pick up really.

  • LULUUUUUU!!!!! RASQUELE WEY!!!!!

  • I seriously thought this was impossible to pick up until I picked up the 5-7 during practice last weekend. I hit on the right side of the 5-pin and slid it so it clipped the front of the 7-pin. The 5 hit off the wall and caught the top of the gutter as it came back on the lane, so it hopped up and turned a little bit counterclockwise, and rolled across the deck, right over the 10-pin spot.

  • This is just a case of his ball not finishing in the pocket, time to adjust your angle.

  • This Is no lie my little brother and my family were at our bowling league and he was using a six pound ball and picked it up I swear you could here my mom scream for across the country is was so loud

  • That's what happens when you use colombia lol

  • The only time I have seen a good bowler leave that was in a house in Norwalk Connecticut where the pin decks were slightly elevated and caused the ball to lose contact with the lane just before it hit the pocket. I'd be willing to bet that was the case here.

  • In Costa Rica we call it "the lulu" xD !!

  • A guy in our league picked one up yesterday. 5 into the 7, and the 7 rolled allllll the way over to the 10. It was really delayed, to the point where the scorer only gave him 2 pins. But it was a really neat sight to see.

  • lol my little sister got those pins with a 6lb ball no sweat.

  • in my bowling center ,we call it;s a pussy ball

  • @chinh62 Ha same here!

  • I dont have a video to prove it but I once threw the ball to aiming for the far right edge of the pin right on the gutter where the ball would fall into the gutter but then bounces back up and tap the pin just enought to get the 10 pin flying left to knock down the other pins. Lucky I guess but not impossible.

  • @funintegras Not legal of course. Once a ball goes into the gutter it cannot count. Good trick shot anyway though....

  • @funintegras that happens pretty often. ive picked up a few spares that way. but i just bowl recreationally so it doesnt matter if it happens.

  • LOL!

  • Too bad for him i thought when this guy posted a video about the 5-7-10 that he was gonna get it... guess not but still awesome vid thiswilldoblue

  • I did that in open bowling once and the counter person announced it over the speaker lol

  • @raezor82 WOW great job picking that up... that is a lol that he would say it over the loud speaker but it was well deserved for doing that... you should get a ring or something

  • @TheOnehandedwonder Didn't pick it up, just for leaving the split.

  • @raezor82 uh well still it's hard to get the ball sround them

  • @mrTsalverda300 Yeah chris normally is at roughly 410, but a 34 rpm difference isnt too much of a difference, not enough for that result. Also chris can change his rev rate so he may have been down alittle in this match. No i think he got it out too far and the ball just rolled out and hit like a pillow.

  • i wish he woud have picked it up wen the guy said well this is an imposible shot and an open frame

  • i remember when i did this in high school lmao. i left it and i was just like lmao wow. i was getting high fives from other schools for leaving it haha funny stuff

  • there wasn't as much rev rate that Chris typically puts on the ball...he's typically around 400 rpm...that's why the ball hit as flat as a pancake

  • this is too funny- at least he was a good sport and smiled...... i bet he doesnt get this too often!

  • I had a teammate leave this one year...he stood at the line and did a curtsy, lol.

  • The sour apple! I've had it happen to me, my grandfather had it happen twice in consecutive frames as well. Just a horrible feeling.

  • well damnit i was excited, until he missed it-- the suspense had me goin for a second haha

  • that's called "the Lily"

  • Converted that split with a friend just some days ago. Uploaded the video here at YouTube. Balls we used were 8 pound balls.

  • LMFAOO!!! solid

  • wow. the sour apple. the 5-7 split is actually not hard to make. just move two boards left on the approach from where you'd normally stand on your first ball and throw your strike line. now that one there is harder. prolly have to throw it slower. slide the 5 into the 10 and hopefully the ball rolls over and hits the 7.

  • what ball is he using ?

  • @ladyzmann

    power swing

  • only had that once, pretty easy spare though.

  • I think Chris definitely holds the record for lily's on TV

  • I think a 6-8 pound ball should deflect off the 5 pin pretty good for a attempt hmmm??

  • Whoa

  • unlucky shoot.... wow..

  • it's not impossible to pick that up..

  • its called a lilly... and the shot was flat, rolled out about 10 feet before the deck and had massive deflection.

  • I don't get it. How does he leave a Lilly with that amount of revs and speed?

  • i like how its just 1 bowling lane

  • norm duke just left a 5 7 10 in match play at last weeks us open during match play. not good

  • U G L Y

  • i believe thats called the sour apple.the leave not chris

  • @bigge0369 I agree: in California back when I bowled regularly in the 70's, it was called the "sour apple." Lots of leaves had funny names: Greek church, grandpa's teeth, and so on. But serious bowlers simply called it the 5-7-10.

  • thats great ive never herd those other names.lol

  • maby this sounds stupid but maby his bal was to a light weight like 14/15 pounds i see this allot in my bowling people with to leight balls when they hit the pins they bounce to right ore left

ant that is also what i see with this one

  • @thanoobsowne no chris barnes throws 16 lbs

  • already thought is

  • ''This is an impossible spare'' no it isn't..

  • That was wicked! Not even a wobbler, just solid 5-7-10! Wow....

  • at least the audience had fun with it

  • Ive never seen that before

  • In my league you have to take your shirt off and throw if you leave that one.

  • the cookie monster is hard as hell to pick up

  • i just went bowling today,,im a lefty now:)

  • ive been a lefty :)

  • i remember leaving it once and i almost picked it, but i hit the five pin on the right side as hard as i could so it hit the seven pin and the five pin bounces back out and rolled in front of the ten pin..

  • maybe if we threw a six pounder we might get a sufficient rebound off the 5 pin to hit the 7 or ten pin with the ball whilst taking out the other pin with the fallen 5 pin... lol

  • If you are right handed, just hit the left side of the 5 pin, hook the ball into the seven, and kick the 5 into the ten.

  • impossible unless you either get a lucky bounce from the pin OR you throw a 6lb ball and get the ricochet...

  • It is not impossible, you just need a very strong bowling ball. I've seen it picked up like that before, and it was not a lucky shot. Increase rev rate and throw very aggressive bowling ball.

  • @jpba713 or roll out like chris barnes

  • @jpba713 can you change balls?

  • @0100110101001011 During competition or...? I saw video of Michael Fagan picking up the 5-7-10 with an 8lb ball i believe. Dont think its on here though...

  • @jpba713 not impossible, if ur right handed, you throw it to the left of the 5, the ball hits the left side, shooting the 5 into the 10, the ball takes out the 7. Not impossible.

  • not as simple as you may think......

  • I wanna bowl on these kind of lanes =)

  • LOL/

    SINGLE LANE ALLEY FTW?

  • columbia 300 at its finest!

  • nothing special

  • left handed person speaking, got it easy, dont know why its so hard. i use a crappy razor ball. 14 lb.

  • bullshit

  • vibe onyx is the greatest ball i have played 300 whit the ball you must have one :P

  • i need some opinions i have a black widow pearl and am getting a new ball... do i get a brunswick phython a black widow sting a black widow venom or a black widow nasty

  • you get a virtual gravity

  • i really like my BW Venom.. got it last year, and have been stringing huge ammounts of strikes together with it the whole time :)

  • you get a virtual gravity

  • i had only converted the 5-7 split but this is very hard too convert. respekt at chris barnes for this try^^

  • i left one of those yesterday for the first time.. gotta laugh nothing much else you can do

  • lol. i read the caption real quick and i thought he was going to pick it up.....

  • I made this one once when i was 10, using a 6pound ball (normally using a 10 or a 12 punder),my fingers could still fit in those,so if you hit pin 5 from the side, the ball will be light enough to kick into the 7 or 10 pin, while pin 5 is taking out the other one.

You sure got to give it a try, it made me feel real proud, but your fingers probably won't fit in a 6 pounder, I dont know if its possible with a heavier ball

  • Impossible? Not with me and my C4 ball!

  • i got it once, but im not entirely sure how BECAUSE i got a 12 pound ball, im only 15 and usually use a 10, and just chucked it as hard as i could, spinning as i did, then my freinds all cheered and all the pins were down. They told me that i had hit the 5 pin which took out 7 and then the ball hit ten... somehow

  • luluuuuuuuuuuuu

  • Probably even more difficult to convert this split than the 4-6-7-10????

  • way more, but not impossible... if you have a 6 pound ball with plenty of revs on it you can get it... the 5 kicks to the 10 and the ball bounces to the 7... or opposite for leftys... its so rare tho, so no one has a 6 in the pros...

  • no lol

  • No even close, this split is not as hard as most people think, you just need a plastic ball and you need to throw it right now the one board with some good revs and you will get it.

  • The Lilly

  • the ball rolled out and deflected... lol

  • No way he was using a 16 lb ball.

  • the best way to pick this up (and im not saying it will always work) in my opinoin is to hit the 5 pin as hard as possible into the 7 pin and get one of the two pins to roll across the deck into the 10 pin. same type of method when converting the 2 8 10

  • naa the best way to get it is use an 6 or 8 pound ball bowl rly slow on one side of the 5 pin then cos the ball is light it will get 7 or 10 and the 5 pin will get the other pin

  • o wat the heck

i thought he was gonna knock it down seeing from the title

    lol

  • Gee. That's terrible.

    William.

  • I never seen people leave this split before. Is this split makeable? They call this split the "sour apple" and I don't hardly see people leave the 5 7 10 split before. Please tell me how to make this spare.

  • As in my other comment, it is makable. For a righty, you would have to drop your wrist as if you were shooting a solid 10. You want some revs so it clips the right side of the 5 pin, kicking it to the 7 and bouncing the ball to the 10. Lefty would be the opposite side. Left side of the 5, kick the 5 into the 10 and the ball into the 7.
