What a powerful sounding hymn. Thanks so much for the lyrics, I've been wanting to find out what they were. I'm in my first year of learning Russian, mostly because of this movie. Great video.
I agree with only4russian & Lucky - I'm a Russian learner and I wish the pronunciations were accurate, because I love the melody, chords, lyrics and the video
Man that sucks to hear. I hate when authentic language is screwed up, drives me nuts. Authenticity should be the first prioritiy, if you can't sing it go to that country and have them show you how it's done.
In my vision, this song is not a good audio lesson for students. I am a native Russian - and it is funny, but I can not understand 90% of this song lirycs without subtitles. :-)
And me, a student-I can't understand most of it but I thought it's just me! Well, then, I may take this one down. Anyway Youtube sent me a note telling me that the music is copyrighted..
I was taught that in Russian, inanimated things have an accusative similar to genitive when the accusative has a negative form. eg. я вижу город (i see the town, город = affirmative accusative) => я не вижу города (I don't see the town, городa = negative accusative=>genitive. ) that's why I 'm curious, shouldn't it rather be победного шага? Is the grammar rule flexible, and both are allowed ?
Yes, Russian is a very interesting language, with some pitfalls and difficulties, although. :-) Thank you, native Russians advice is always welcome, as they "feel" the language and can say if something sounds weird.
As far as this hymn to Red October is concerned, it should be regarded as a tribute, rather than a faithfull performance in a perfect Russian language...

@LuckyRVP. Well, I'm italian and I myself cannot always understand italian choirs and lyric music, I suppose it's because the singers have to mantain certain voice levels at the expense of pronunciation :)
But it may be due to not mother-tongue singers as well.

@LuckyRVP I'm learning Russian myself on line. Several times i've heared similar comments about this song. This song is not a useful tool to learn to read or interpret Cirilic characters?

Sometimes, you don't need to understand lyrics to like a song, or a "hymn" in this case.

Funny, to read all these reactions to this video...
the guy who uploaded this video even states it is especially
composed for the movie "the Hunt for Red Oktober" and still some people think it's some kind of national anthem...(rolling eyes)
By the way, for everybody's information...
This original soundtrack from the movie WAS sung by "The Red Army Choir"!
So i don't know where you all get your funny ideas from, but there you go...

не плохой псевдо Советский гимн,правда минус очевиден.
Гимн поют люди не знающие русского языка даже близко.
Просто заучили слова на слух.
Без субтитров очень сложно понять.

I am learning Russian, and I have a question about Russian grammar to a native Russian speaker : Is the syntax :
теперь ничто не остоновит победный шаг родной страныь correct ?
An accusative after a negative verb ( не остоновит) should'nt look rather like победного шага ?
Thanks for your help.
karllegrand 2 years ago
It is really hard question even for native :-)
I think, that the second variant is correct - "ничто не остановит победного шага".
Thank you for leaning Russian! :-)
And check at 3:24 : "рапортуем мы наши победы" -> "рапортуем мы о наших победах"
LuckyRVP 2 years ago
@karllegrand "теперь ничто не остановит победный шаг родной страны" - Correct. Inanimate substantive - question "Что?" Akkusativ=Nominativ (only inanimate).

@karllegrand Yes, it so. But in this case the accusative case is more preferable. (My opinion:). And you where studied Russian?
