I am a 66 year ol woman and my mother died there in early spring of 1974 after being a patient there since the mid 50's. It is a ver emotional video for me. I'm trying after al these years to lclose that part of my life and can't. I like the video.
I agree...do some research. I lived in T.C. for 3 years and used to ride my bike over there all the time. You can walk around all over the grounds...as long as you behave. It is amazing what they are doing with these old buildings. Offices, restaurants, condo's, a beautiful winery, and a lovely little cheesecake shop, a farmer's market. About a 1/4-1/2 mile on the grounds are the 2 refurbished (the outside anyway) livestock barns. They are massive. It's now called the "Commons."
The security guard and his golden retriever just tell you to leave, don't ask permission, you get more adrenaline that way anyway. And the hippy tree is in the woods, just head back behind the house, find the path and follow it back. You'll figure it out. The round thing with the amazing graffiti on it has nothing but nasty shit in it, a couple feet of water, muk and waste.
at 0:35 thats the house with a garage and theirs a big hole on top of it. my dad works at the hospital and he said someone fell through it and broke their leg
that place was scary my neise got chased by a ghost out by the "Dome" right after she read out loud "feed the children" and then something was chaseing her to the car. Then her mom got chased away shortly after my neise got chased.
Ah, I love this place. Unfortunately, most of the Kirkbride building has already been remodeled, and even then what parts haven't are cleaned out. However, the multitude of other buildings still remain in their abandoned glory.
I lived in the Creepy house. My father was a doctor there and during our transition to Traverse City lived there for several months in the mid 60's. It was a park like setting and except for being surrounded by the inmate buildings with screened in porches it was fairly normal. Patients were able to freely roam the grounds including the forested area behind our house. Patients were bussed to local cherry orchards for harvest and there was an on grounds garden .
Affirmative. There's a tunnel system throughout the compound (except for our house) so that Staff could get between the buildings during the sometimes brutal winter weather.
wow. what was it like living in a house that people think is haunted. and what was it like living in a house next the that building. I had a friend that lives next to a hospital like that and she said she hears people screaming sometimes. who wants that?
It was very rare that any of the patients created an outburst if they were sitting on the screened in porch. The outburst might just be loud talking or singing. I can't recall any screaming. Sometimes I could see them staring out and I felt sorry that they couldn't be free to go out anythime they wished. To tell the truth I've seen crazier people walking the streets of Los Angeles.
@ericaisha can you tell me how to get into it with permission? Also do you know how to go see the Hippie Tree? Heading there next weekend. Thanks so much for any help you can give
I think the lonely house is more creepy looking than the actual institution.

You need footage of the hippie tree and grave of the 2 headed cow that's on the rear of the property...crazy place : )
trevinoswife 3 years ago
You're an idiot. It's not a two headed cow. It's the world champion cow. Go read the gravestone. It was just a really large cow.
