The system allocated resources to itself that it doesn't actually need, in a sort of "just in case" method that saps performance away from every other process, and as a result the system usually grinds to a painful halt over time. Then there's the crazy nazi-inspired User Account Controls that demand your credentials just to open certain windows... It's just a bad system. XP was better, and 7 shows some promise.

I have a Vista, and it isn't bad by any standards. Sure some PC games glitch on it, but just download a patch. there are a couple annoying messages asking for permission for almost anytime you click on something, but I'm never in a hurry.

because technically its an incomplete product so it has compatibility issues and such if you just an average user then you would have no problems but for more advanced users they tend to get frustrated due to these problems. windows 7 is supposed to be the finished version of vista. runs a lot smoother and stable than vista too. I'm running the beta right now

unless you plan on using it for something other then web surfing, and old games i stand by windows 98SE to the death, go ahead and laugh but it takes near NO ram, Disk space, has ugly ass gui features to distract you AND you can customise folders AND your desktop using plain HTML, its a very utilitarian os and although its old as dirt, its compact, lean on resources, and powerful enough for every day tasks, on a modern pc it loads in like 15 seconds from a cold boot too! as a bonus you have DOS
