I have no idea 'who' these guys were doing this documentary but I thank them! Paul Rodgers was the genius behind Free I still feel as a 'still' devoted fan after all these yrs...I really don't know 'how' I could've kept up my own interest in Rock Music without his voice. To me there's Paul Rodgers on top and then about 6 levels below him start the rest of the competition....and personally, you guys make WAY TOO MUCH of Kossoff, a really for-shit guitarist...
A few dispensable interviews and mistaken guitar demonstrations but not too bad a documentary. The book called Free, is an amazingly detailed and interesting read. I'd recommended it to anyone who wants to know all about the band from those who were really there with them.
gumpy maybe they are talking about free live? hmm i reckon free's more bluesie tunes where better not that songs like wishing well weren't good. I agree with how they mentioned free where heading in the direction of where bad company ended up. Awsome documentary
thanks frozenfish91 for posting this GREAT video history of the best blues-rock band to come down the pike. I never knew how much I liked Free until now. Again thanks. Now... it's off to Amazon (you should get a cut from them).
Excellent doc. Thanks for posting. I was fortunate enough to have seen Free (in Detroit, opening for Jeff Beck and Stevie Wonder) they were incredible!! Long live Kossoff
This doco was great, but would have been better without the little digs at Led Zep. I don't think you can postulate that Zep had "disdain" for thier audience, it was simply a different dynamic economically and managementwise with Zep as they exploded so big from the start. Concepts like "people's band" or not, are not really valid ways to delineate the two groups. Rock critics always love the music they talk about, but sometimes miss the point and come across a bit glib.
@andysnadden Quite right, Andy. I've never understood how one can believe that they are elevating their own cause while attacking down the works of another. 'Free' were "Free" and 'Zeppelin' were "Zeppelin." If there is no room in your heart for both, I'm sorry for you...
Well, of course Fraser is a genius and I agree they could have emphasized that a lot more. He was irreplaceable. But Kossoff was also great. His passion spoke so clearly in his playing that it can't be done again by anyone. He was a sensitive soul who lost his way. Too bad. I love them all though.

Listen to the guy at 2:50. It really says it all. Without Fraser the band just wasn't as good, period. These blokes here downplayed his part too much and made Kosoff out to have far too much importance.
Thanks for putting up these videos. What an amazing band, and they were all teenagers, literally! Incredible. Underated in my book. They should be talked about in the same breath as Zeppelin, The Who, and the Stones.
Great stuff. Good to see that they acknowledged Heartbreaker (second only to Fire and Water IMHO). There is a song on their called 'Come together in the morning' which is a marvelous example of Paul Kossoff's unique guitar playing. I'e loved this band for over 20 years and its good to see that they're finally getting the plaudits they deserve.

Free were simply amazing.
Whether relevant here or not I actually agree with what was said about Led Zeppelin - a very overrated band.

Only 1 thing was annoying - they're talking over & over again 'bout free album... free albums - I've never seen a free Free album :))
