Soon, some drunk congressman is gonna be like "What the hell, let's turn rails into roads! Then all of us railfans will fight for our railroads in what will soon be World War 3.
I think he paid about 60 each for the motors up front and about 40 for each car. so by guessing at the costs its around $600.00 USD and then you have to add the cost of the Digitrax computer decoders in each motor.
Because they are limited run models (for the most part) and demand is always high! Those Athearn P42's up front retail for $109 and depending on the brand of superliners, they could be anywhere from $20 to $60 each!
Fantastic layout though! And this camera has a really shallow dof, is it the HVX200?

I protest the label Amcrash. Any crashes involving Amtrak trains have been caused by outside forces: trucks trying to beat the crossing, barge hitting bridge, tampering with the rails in the desert, etc. I have taken Amtrak twice and it was a great experience.
I took Amtrak a few years back and it was the worst ride I have ever taken. The staff was really rude and they made a railfan get a bad taste for rail travel here in the US.
My experiences on Amtrak were similar, granted that was ten years ago so things may have changed. I don't have much fondness for Amtrak, though it looks like the Acela is a step in the right direction for them.
The building management changed hands and they were kicked out cause they wanted to expand their business. It is truely a sad story but on the bright side they are building a way better layout in a new building.
