@StanAfrica Of course it's legal. You bought the phone, you can do whatever you want to it. However if you miss a step or screw something up in the process of rooting, you will have a shiny new paperweight.

If the triangle sign not appear, you should download and install z4.apk / z4 root.apk (search with google or download on android market) after that just click root.

And then you can use this update as your root.

as far as i can tell rooting the Motorola milestone is pointless because of the secure boot-loader. loading custom roms is impossible because they need to be signed for. so unless there's a way around that to load roms the whole rooting process is pointless. but plz correct me if there is a way out there to bypass the boot-loader and flash roms on the milestone.

jkkmobile: have you tried to put a custom rom on the milestone, like Cyanogen? uk moto sucks big time and i can't wait for them to release froyo. it took them 5 months to release 2.1 in the uk(and at that very same time, google was announcing 2.2 at the I/O). thanks for video works btw ^_^

In Canada it's called the Milestone but it's an Android phone as well. I don't know about Europe, but it's always been called the Milestone. And it has always been a droid phone. But for sure it was released in the States first. Like the iPhone 4, which Canada just started selling.

Rooting... is that another word for "hacking?" I've never heard that term used that way before...unless you're from Australia. Then it takes on a whole different meaning. But I will say that I might be getting the Moto Milestone when the HSPA towers are turned on in a week and a half. Also depends what kind of staff discount Telus will give me for the plan I choose. (I don't work for Telus, I sell and activate their phones at a huge electronics chain store)

The droid is so much better, but if you're out of the USA you'll have to get the milestone :( no custom roms on the milestone. In terms of bricking, I managed to root the phone and fuck it up a few times, still had access to the recovery console though so it works perfectly in that sense. I found that I had to hold X on the keypad when turning it on, not power+camera like other phones

Rooting the device also voids the warranty as long as the phone is in a rooted state. So if your phone breaks to a point where you're unable to unroot (for example the camera button stops working) you won't be able to claim warranty.
