On the iPhone it loads faster than Safari on EDGE... much faster actually. But it renders pages horribly. There's only 2 zoom levels: all the way in or all the way out. Neither are comfortable to use.
The only time I see the need to use Opera Mini on iPhone is when you're on EDGE. Even then it's frustrating.
sorry it does not kil the iphone and it does not even come close to comparision. the iphone shows web pages and this the mobile INTERNET that is equivalent to the GAY INTERNET.
i can not believe you said that this is better then the iphone. the dude is using a sylus to type. how gay is that!!
I have an iphone: were is the page caching? why does it have to reload the page everytime i switch between them? where is the flash support? Some site have a flash only-interface, I can access them. Why can't I see comments in youtube? It launches the youtube app automatically, etc, etc... Sorry but the iphone is not perfect.
People prefer a stylus because they don't like to get grease all over the screen, not because they can't use their fingers (and, yes, you can use your fingers).
You can turn off the mobile version (which I do).
The guy is using the on-screen keyboard because he doesn't know how to use Graffiti 2 (or maybe he just prefers the keyboard). The fact that iPhone DOESN'T have something like Graffiti (like Windows mobile does) is just plain stupid. Or maybe it does and I just don't know about it, but I would think they would advertise that more.
I would much rather have Graffiti or even a stylus-based keyboard than have iPhone automatically "correcting" my misspelled words, which would make typing lesser used words (like 90% of last names) a bitch.
People prefer a stylus because they don't like to get grease all over the screen, not because they can't use their fingers (and, yes, you can use your fingers).
Stylii can always get lost. I'm the sort of person who always loses pens, and losing the all important stylus will be no different rendering the device useless.
What about one handed operation ? Impossible with a device which needs a stylus.
Stylii don't get lost that often with most people I know. I've only known one person to lose it. That's almost like saying you don't like CD cases because you lose the CD. Most people would be far more likely to lose the entire device.
And, no, I do one-handed operation frequently when I'm on-the-fly. I don't like using my finger very often, but like I said, it can be easily done. I'll do it if I'm walking around and opening my mp3 program.
Having used a few Windows Mobile devices plus the iPhone and iPod Touch. I much prefer the capacitive 'finger-only' glass screens of the Apple devices, rather than the pressure-sensitive Windows devices. Plus IMO the iPhone/iPod's UI is awesome compared to the rather clunky Windows Mobile UI.
Windows Mobile's keyboard is just about impossible to operate with a finger, and I don't want to be forced into learning some arcane handwriting system like Graffiti.
"Graffiti" is hardly arcane. I can go fairly fast with it. Sure, it has a learning curve, but so does the iPhone keyboard (which would drive me crazy because it uses an updated predictive text, so say goodbye to a lot of the words I use). And like I said, I have no desire to use a finger since I don't want to get smudges on my screen.
I've honestly never known anyone to think Windows Mobile's UI is clunky or in any way difficult.
I actually should have said I've found Windows Mobile to be FIDDLY rather than 'clunky', especially when launching applications from the Start menu.
And I've got no desire to use a stylus, which I've found can get misplaced and lost in the past.
As for the iPhone/iPod Touch onscreen keyboard, I was able to use it satisfactorily straight away. No 'learning curve' needed. No problem with smudges.
"Fiddly" doesn't really mean anything. You don't have to "fiddle around" for anything at all, if that's what you mean. It's pretty straightforward.
I've seriously not heard anyone complain so much about losing a stylus. There's normally a place on the actual device to put the stylus so you don't lose it. Put a string on it if you actually have that problem, which I honestly can't possibly imagine seriously having. Like I said, that's like a problem with CD cases because you lose the CD.
Even favorable reviews of the iPhone say there's a learning curve. Look up "First iPhone Review" in YouTube.
And it's going to leave smudges no matter what, because skin produces grease. So, unless you're ridiculously OCD about washing your hands, you WILL leave smudges. I even am somewhat OCD about it and I still leave smudges on something from time to time, like if I touch my monitor.
Now when I've had Windows Mobile devices, the pressure sensitive screen feels very vulnerable to damage from objects I usually find in my pockets, keys and coins etc. iPhone/iPod Touch's glass screen is OK with stuff like that.
I don't know what you mean by "feels," but they're not that delicate. Screen protectors for my T|X are cheap, and some Windows Mobile devices don't even need them anyway.
the ui could definately be improved, maybe it will be out of beta or in the next version, but you have to admire the efficency of it. OM 3 runs on my nokia 6100 (a small, compact and useful phone but old and with virtually no memory) via gprs, and I reckon it loads pages faster than safari would over edge, maybe that's due to the amount of data which is downloaded.
