@IndyB25 Someone up top for ESPN would have counted how many trucks were left, and which ones they were. That way they could say who it was that was upside-down.
Watched this happen when I was six years old. My mom was crying, and my dad was cursing the tv. First time we sat down and watched a truck race was this one.
Forget all the people watching it on TV, can you imagine being one of the people sitting in the first couple rows where Bodine hit the fence!? I would poo myself!
Wow! To this day, I still can't believe how the 1986 Daytona 500 winner, Geoff Bodine survived this near-fatal crash. I mean I thought he was killed on national television. But somehow, he did. God was on his side that day.
Not gonna lie, but Marty Reid's comment at the beginning of the wreck was totally uncalled for. I mean, sure, he had NO idea how bad it was going to be, but still, you don't say something stupid like that. Now he's ESPN's pretty boy on both NASCAR and IndyCar telecasts.....ok sorry, rant over haha.
@Philip83151 I just don't think no matter what in any type of crash you say something stupid like "this is gonna hurt!" Idk, maybe I just can't stand Marty Reid (which I do strongly dislike him haha), but does that make sense? What's wrong with just "we've got trouble" like he started? And, like I said before, nobody had any idea it would be as bad as it was, but it just seems over the top like you're trying to make it sound cool. I've never heard Paul Page or Bob Jenkins say things like that.
@penske369 well ur right in a sense i guess lol. and marty reid isnt the best commentator out there haha. gotta agree with u. but ya i see what ya mean now
@MortifiedPenguin275 - i did see it on tv as it happened and i was mortified for sure - he had to have been dead in my mind, especially since they werent showing replays right after the crash (before they showed Bodine on the gurney)
@MortifiedPenguin275 Yeah I was eight and I was at my grandma's house and we both watched it and we both thought Geoff was dead....we looked at each other in shock and disbelief. And neither of us said anything for several minutes
@wildbeemer i never noticed that crash was fatal but that was near fatal crash and i wanna know how did that truck exploded and how bad was the fence and the truck and how many trucks are still left when they got through?
When I first saw this live, I just knew the driver was dead....didn't know who was in the truck at the time of the crash...I was shocked and relieved to find out later that Geoff was alive.
@rockypc24 geoff had a near-death experience-in the middle of the wreck, his hand was cupped like he was holding something, but he was unconscious, he says that was his father(who had died by then) reaching out and telling him "it's not your time yet"
The 10 seems to focus on the Cup Series.

because of such a great closing rate on the truck in front of them
bump-drafting in the corner is never a good idea, restrictor-plate racing or not! lol

The sound of the truck coming to pieces on the fence almost makes you queasy.
