If you could have 4 propellers perhaps or idk to ballance it in takeoff. If you could get the front propellers to turn foward it would achieve greater speeds
IMHO such constructions need halfautomated computer stabilisation like thos toy-drones. I am working on my tricopter concept design.. but with 2 props behind with just horizontal tale. It could survive at any problems like yours... with gliding down.
@shoutatthesky not to mention it gives it the ability to turn and maneuver better although of you put gyros in the props then the wings would only be needed for stability and air flow so the air flows over it efficiently like a car OH!! (aerodynamics) that's the word I'm thinking of!
@shoutatthesky yes wings ARE necessary for a plane to fly otherwise it wouldn't get in the air... The wings crest a "low pressure area" or a "vacume" (however its spelled) and pulls the aircraft up a VTOL has dual props (or engines) on either sides of the wings for stability and upward motion like a helicopter and if you really want to know more go to google... I'm just really interested in this kind of stuff (plan on flying aircraft) and I thought maybe this could help
This is a great start. It looks like you have enough wing surface to sustain flight. The next and harder step is to turn the props to pull it threw the air. Then back to vertical to land. Every thing looks great.
@Erb Right on man. Unfortunately, I haven't flown yet, but I'm getting my nitro plane ready with the unused OS 40 LA from the Avistar, and I plan on getting some more still photos with it. I'm hoping for more reliability and a little more power, because I have no idea what the deal is with the other one. Also, I'm going to move the camera from behind the CG to in front of it so a heavy counterweight isn't required on the nose. I'll buy lipos for the other planes once some bills are paid off.
@jacquesone100 Sharing is my pleasure! thanks for watching and commenting it means a lot to me. I like the scratch build you guys have on your page, cool stuff!
@DFisher777 I wish! maybe this all would be easier if I did. Just went from high school to the work force! but I constantly push myself with far out ideas.
Very nice. I am impressed by how stable it is.... Is that a lot of deft heli-flying finger work, or is it extensively electronically stabilised? Either way, great work.
You can see the wing lift kicking in when you fly forward and pull back (e.g. 2:48 ) - definitely not just heli aerodynamics at play, so you are well on the way to FF transition. Great progress in a notoriously difficult task! I look forward to the next update :-)
@bluefisherking used piezo gyros, but one wrong move and this things a expensive lawn ornament. My intentions from these flights was to find reactions from the wing. keep that keen eye watching and thanks for commenting
i was curious... does this fly just like a heli? great job on making it to the "half way" point. now you just have to successfully transition it to forward/fixed wing flight and back to rotary wing flight without crashing. good luck man. i will be anxiously watching this project
@wildhover yep same controls as a heli. I think it's a little easier. The first time I go into FF will be the worst because its going to be going fast to power out of any problems and returning to hover will be even worse because I will have to slow down and that wing is little for its weight! plus I have never tried anything like this before! thanks for the good wishes and keep the honest comments coming.
@FlyHighRC386 you seem to know how much has to go into building one of these things because its been a lot of failing to get to this point and i'm still only half way there!
NICE :)

Where is forward flight?
GreenAce92 2 months ago
What effect do the wings have? One could say that they are not necessary for the aircraft to fly so what functionality do the wings add?
