  • This clip is probably spring,1993 or so. Stern came on WBCN at night on 3/2/93, and in the first few months they still had the "Get the Led Out" feature right after the Stern show finished...usually around 11-11:30. I actually preferred Stern's show at night... WBCN did go downhill. After Charles left(4/1/96) it was never quite the same. The format change of 1995 pushed away many older listeners and within a few years, BCN didn't know what they were anymore. Last few years were weak

  • @CaptainBeyond72 - I think I recorded this bit around March 1993, sometime around the Waco stand-off. Robin was reading news about (Vernon Howell) David Koresh, and Stern couldn't get the name right, referring to him as "David Corneesh".

Along with 'Get the Led Out', they also had one of those bits for Pearl Jam.

The Zep one did last quite a while, but was eventually replaced by the P-J segment. Still heard that bit through '95, at least.

  • @MSTS1 I thought it was March,1993. The big topics when Stern debuted on WBCN were indeed Waco, the WTC bombing and of course "Butt Bongo Fiesta". I don't think I missed a second of his show back then. The show was at it's peak in that era,IMO. Especially when Billy West was sitting in... I'm trying to remember when BCN killed off "Get The Lead Out"...maybe it was Fall of '93? The gradual shift towards entirely "new rock" began in earnest in late-1994 or so.

  • @CaptainBeyond72 - The era of that show in Bos from 3/93 through 1995 was the peak IMO, as well. All I really liked was the staff in-fighting, "fa-fa-fooey", Jackies' laugh on cart-machine, Gange making microwaved potatoes for HS's "diet", and mostly, Billy West. For that time, it was funny.

  • @MSTS1 Agree completely. Billy West left on November 1, 1995...it didn't become obvious that he was gone until about two weeks later because Stern was doing endless "Miss America" promotion in that period and Billy wasn't technically a "full timer" so initially his absence wasn't surprising...but the way Stern just tried to whitewash it was pretty disgusting, he wouldn't even acknowledge Billy's existence when callers asked "where's Billy". The show's long decline began that month,IMO

  • im 29,,, my old man has been in bands since he was a lil douche warmer... he played the RATTTTTTT in the early 80s,, i have BETAMAX or VHS of it.... i just wanna say that i i remember WBCN from BEFORE ZLX... dont get me wrong,, ZLX is my FAVORITE station nowadays, but ZLX would be NOTHING without WBCN... WHAT THE FUCKIN FUCK.... 40 years and they get NIXXXED.... SHIT,, as much as i like ZLx,,,,, ZLX shoulda been stripped, and WBCN shoulda went back to plain the classics ,,, in zlxS place,

  • I remember BCN before there was ever a Howard Stern -- *those* were the days!

  • Yes, variably, between 1968-1993. It seemed to begin to fall apart after 1996, and by 2000, sounded like a rap-rock station, then, nose-dived into its demise. IMO

  • I remember listening to Stern at night before they finally allowed BCN to brodcast in the morning live. Those were the days...
