I bought this album when it first came out in '69 and bought tickets for the same, performed live at The Royal Albert Hall. I knew Mayall as a blues musician and didn't really know what to expect - this track has never left my mind. Fabulous, beautiful... one of my Desert Island Discs...
It's not blues at all. If you had to label it you'd have to call it jazz. This entire album is a stunning piece of work. Creative in concept and damn near flawless in execution. I heard this when it first came out, wore out two vinyl discs and can replay the sax riffs from this song almost note-for-note in my memory. Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
There is the word "blues" among the tags just because I wrote "Jazz blues fusion" (another Mayall's album) to make YouTube link this video to... those with songs from "Jazz blues fusion" :)
@thesonglines Oh I wasn't being critical of the tags or anything else. I'm grateful you uploaded this gem. I also understand that it's hard to use the name John Mayall in a sentence that doesn't include the word 'blues', I have always gotten lost in this song, it's like taking a drug an dwaking up hours later. . . . .
Stellar band and 2 are gone: Johnny Almond and Stephen Thompson. And Jon Mark lives in Australia (or maybe NZ). And John M keeps on ---

Turning point is a masterpiece of the 60'. "Blues from Laurel Canyon" and Turning point are my favourites John Mayall's album
