  • thanks john.dave

  • Long time since I heard this one Dave, it played well on the big chrome juke box in the local cafe we used. That was more years ago than I care to remember, better times then though!!

  • Thanks Dave, your welcome!

  • I love this song!

  • @nettieheartful me to thanks for taking the time to comment dave

  • One of my all time favourite boyhood songs, though I wasn't sure if The Four Lads

or The Four Preps sang it.Anyway, with all the Justin Bieber-Lady Caca-(c)rap-lousy covers of 60's and 70's classics' assaulting the ears,"Big Man Yesterday" should be played frequently enough so that today's skateboard brat can experience-though he/

    she likely wouldn't appreciate-REAL singing-and we baby boomers[I'm 57] can re-

member the good ol' days just before the mid-60's rock invasion!!!

  • These guys did a gig at noontime at U.B.C. in about 1962. they were awesome

  • Great tune. Was 12 when it came out. Bought the record (45) and the album. Both went in a garage sale when I was in the Army. Thanks Mom! The piano solos are terrific. First heard this on Peter Potter's Juke Box Jury. That may ring a bell for those who lived in the L.A. area.

  • @TheRetiredColonel thanks mate great little story there all the best dave

  • @TheRetiredColonel Fret not. My buddy from childhood had this baseball card collection. Rookie card for Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Bob Feller, and about 500 others. = probably half a million $ today.. HIS mother decided to clean out the attic one day. You know the rest of the story

  • My favorite of the Four Preps hits. I always loved the pianos. When I first heard it I was thirteen years old and I have never forgotten it. What a rush it is to hear it again--all those years I had the record and couldn't play it. Thanks to the person who put it up.

  • @jtokc glad you like it so much mate.all the best dave

  • I've just come back from a party and for some reason I found myself humming this tune, so I immediately got onto the net and googled it. At first all I could find were the lyrics but then I found it on YouTube and boy, does it bring back memories! I was 14 when it came out and it was one of the first records I bought. It's lovely to hear it again - it's the harmonies I like so much. Thanks to the person who put it on YouTube!

  • @Funbundle44 you are welcome,great foot tapper isnt it?dave.

  • thanks for your comments doug.dave

  • I nearly fell out of the tree when I heard this on PBS over the weekend. Talk about memories! And you're right.....the pianos at the beginning are great as well as the wonderful vocals!!!!

  • the four bars that open this are one of my all time fave things in rock and roll. what a huge, driving sound! the pianos are on the verge of falling into total shambles at times -- but they never do, and that's part of the fun, too.

  • thanks buddy

  • Not only do I love the vocals, Bruce, I love the piano on this song. The harmonies are heavenly, too. One of my favorites, for sure.

  • thanks highland,dave

  • @Highland804

    Thanks!

As a matter of fact that's TWO pianos which is what gave it that HUGE sound.

    Always ;loved that intro!

    Four Preps

  • I adore this song with it's dreamy solo. Wonder which of the Four Preps sang the solo part?

  • sorry cant help with the solo, just love it.thanks for your comments.dave

  • OMG! Am I ever flattered!

I'm Bruce Belland, in my 56th year of fronting The Four Preps and I'm the guy who sang the solo on "Big Man".

Can't tell you what a kick it is to get a warm fuzzy on the internet now and then.

    Thanks a bunch.

You gladdened the heart of this ol' Prep.

    bruce belland

  • Oh Bruce ... all your solos are dreamy. They remind me of Denny Doherty, who Barry McGuire has said could sing the birds out of the trees..... I bet you can too!!!

  • Well, thank you all to heck for the nice words!

    You made my day!

    bruce belland

  • I love 50's and 60's oldies, grew up with them...it's sad that none of the radio stations around here play actual "oldies" anymore. They think oldies are from the 70's and 80's!

  • your so right,i must be geting old.thanks for your cimment.dave

  • That piano gets me every time. This is real rock and roll. It's a shame today's kids don't even know who most of the real artists of yesterday are.

  • You know what would be great with this song?

A bunch of photos of Tiger and the 12 mistreeses!!!

  • I think it's up to 14 or 15 today.

  • This song was really ahead of its time!

  • Oh yes!!!!!

I bought this one as soon as it became available!

  • There`s something about the music that gets to me....don`t know what.

    I just love it!

  • makes you happy i think

  • Thanks for posting this. In my opinion, one of the best pop songs ever.

  • yes i agree real good feel factor.all the best dave

  • Thanks for the compliment!

Bruce Belland here - Preps Lead Singer and co-writer of 26 Miles.

I cut summer school at Hollywood High one day and wrote the song on the beach with my ukulele.

It's been very good to me over the years.

    Glad you like it!

    bb

  • Bruce ,

Big Man and 26 miles were a part of my childhood . I would hear your songs with my family on the movie drive inn speakers during intermission. There is something about that piano background that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Those family nights at the drive inn are long gone. Thanks Bruce for the memories.

  • Funny how it was the guy's ex who made him big.

Probably didn't want to see it.

Though I'm not into this style of music this particular song I do enjoy.

  • This came out at least 16 years before I was born, but I have heard it plenty of times and quite like it. Nice tune and simple lyrics.

  • I'm 57 now...kinda sorta remember this when I was a kid... but still a great song!!

  • I heard this on the pbs show and many memories came back to me (61 1/2). Super great!!! Thank you.

  • Forty rogers on that! I believe it came out in 1958. I remember it growing up in Los Angeles, played on KRLA and KFWB there. Am now almost 63 years old.

  • yes it was 58 i am 62 larry,

  • my bad, saw what you meant by 62. my age also.

  • I am 66, nearly 67. Sentiments the same. I was 16 when this song came out. My adolescence wasn't easy, but the songs of the era were so great....

  • hi steve thanks for your comments.great feel good song isnt it.all the best, dave. happy christmas

  • "62" refers to stickmanpig's age. I will be 64 in July. Was this one from 1957? Or was it 1958?

  • '58, sir!

  • im only 28 & i think this is a great song

  • A great tune, featuring the great Lincoln Mayorga on piano. He kept that sustain pedal floored to get that big echoey sound.

  • Here I am again, listening to the super song and viewing the accompanying pictures. Does anybody know:

    * on the picture showing at 1.17 mins, who's who?

    * and the three guys on the picture at 1.34 mins?

    * who's the one playing the piano?

    If you know some answers......

  • the three guys are from the tv prog.77 sunset strip.effrem zimbalist jnr,edd byrnes, and roger smith.around 1958.all the best dave.

  • This is one of my dad's favourite songs of all time, he loves the piano intro, can't wait to show him that it's on here :)

  • Funny, how memory works - some two nights on end I dreamed of this song, so I googled it and there it was!! Thanks a lot for putting it here, it threw me headlong back to 1958/9.

    Francine - Amsterdam

  • Great four preps song.

  • Fantastic. Lovely to hear the old 50's songs. Lyn1804
