I received the new Gigaset SL400 phone and was able to add it to my existing base station together with the SL785 and SL78h phones.

@MrNicetuber @st6212 The main difference is in the display (and phone size). The SL78H has a height of 139mm and a display of 240x320 pixels, 2.2'', 256K colors, whereas the SL400H is a bit shorter at 120.8mm but the display only has 128x160, 1,8'', 65000 colors. I much prefer the larger display.

@peanut5264 Yes, I have an additonal SL78H added to the base station of my SL785. Gigaset informed me that I could also add other types of handsets such as the new SL400H to the same base station. There is a limit of 4 handsets (I think) for one base station.

Just picked up the SL785 in the United States. Odd for modern technology.. that only EN/SP/FR are supported languages - why not all western (was hoping for DE). Ok, thats minor, but a major irritation: no 24hr clock mode option. WTF? Why assume that North America only wants stupid am/pm mode? Shame on Siemens.

Additional issue I noticed, the phone does NOT slide out of the base very smoothly.. the base holds on to the phone. I have to actually hold down the base to get the phone to release. Could just be needing to push back on the top of the phone to release more easily, but the connection between phone and base, whose only purpose is charging the battery, is really too complex. The spring contact points of old style phone would work better - just drop the phone on the base.. no plug/socket.

How do you compare this to the Gigaset S795 model ?

The S795 screen size is 128x160 pixels, 1,8'', 65000 colors versus the SL785 with 240x320 pixels, 2,2'', 256K colors. They are not in the same league, the SL785 being the premium phone.

High Definition Sound Performance is for VOIP only and requires that both users have a HDSP capable phone. Since I do not use my phone over IP and don't know anyone who has a HDSP-phone, I can't comment on the sound quality of VOIP calls.

Correct. The updated Quicksync software supports Mac OS 10.6. Sadly, firmware updates still require Windows.

Hi, I just bought this phone yesterday, and am very happy with it. However, I notice the backlight on your is blue, but mine is an orange colour. Do you know if it's possible to change it?

Since July 2009 the gigaset blog has a link to Gigaset Quicksync for Mac, which enables sync of contacts over bluetooth between a SL785 phone and a Mac. Apparently it is not yet compatible with Mac 10.6. snow leopard.

Thank you so much for your quick reaction. But my provider already supports and my previous set from Philips was displaying Caller ID. Nothing has changed. I just switched from Philips to Siemens. Any other explaination??

Just bought the set. Cannot figure out how to turn on the Caller ID. Does it have Caller ID??? When I recieve calls it only displays "External" even if the numbers with names are already in it's phonebook. Please advise.

Page 28 of the manual: Your telephone network provider needs to support (and you may need to ask them to switch it on) both CLI (Calling Line Identification) and CLIP (Calling Line Identification Presentation). Works on my phone fine except if the caller supresses their own number.

I really like this phone but does it have a vibrate function? I usually have headphones on when working in my studio and this feature would be a godsend.

Does the handset stand up by itself (without being in the stand)? I would like to stick it on a desk or table and not have it fall over. How is the speakerphone (volume, quality, etc).

The handset does not stand up by itself. The docing station is required for this.

i love your review - great job - i live in the UK and have been waiting MONTHS for the UK version of the SL785 to be launched - it appears that the launch will now be in June 2009 - I was wondering in which country the review of this phone was done - I believe if the phone is from Germany you get a German audio intro on the answering machine

I bought the phone in Switzerland. Don't have the phone with me now, but I'll check if I can change the intro to English.

By the way, I have 170 contacts on the phone now which I transmitted automatically over bluetooth through my Mac addressbook. The phone contact list is searchable.
