What exactly is the point of this video? You'd think that livestrong would want to make a decent video. Bad positioning, inappropriate personnel, and hell some of the guys are wearing running shoes and basketball shorts. They don't even explain the purpose of a scrum.
for all you people putting down rugby ... unless you play dont critize them becouse these guys are tougher than any of you.. i would love to you see get out there and get hit with nothing on
@ak47popper my coach was in the under 18's for England. prop. unfortunately they were versing a retarded team, and the onside prop was trying to be an offside prop. with that case ending up destroying he life dream by a simple snap to the neck. he's lucky he's still alive, let alone walking or moving in general!
come on stop abusing these guys i mean there a foundation ok if the video wasn't that good but who cares you couln't make twice as much money as them.
@IronMaiden3223 Do U Even Know What A Lineout Is, The Tall People (Locks) Are Lifted Up, As They Catch The Ball (While Being Lifted), Thats Why The Are Good In The Lineouts, I Play Rugby In Canada For High School And I'm A Lock, But Now Our 8 Man Got A Concussion And Lost Memory (So He Is Out Of The Season Till He Gets His Memory Back), So Now I'm The 8 Man (Witch Is The Guy In The Back Row Of The Scrum, And I Like It There Instead Of The Lock) And I'm Also The Team Capt.
If that No.1 propped against me I'd 1 of 2 things:
1)Roll my shoulder so he kissed the earth
2)Bore in and smash the hooker, his body position wouldn't be able to stop me!
You can go in at an angle from loose head, the aim being to lift the tight head out the scrum, but, as people have pointed, his position is awful, he's too high for it to work and any half decent tight head would snap him in half!
@BRINKYDINK16 Yeah, I'm from NY. Just seems like the tutorial should either be done by a rubgy nation/at least provide accurate or impressive demonstrations.
@BRINKYDINK16 Yeah, I'm from NY. Just seems like the tutorial should either be done by a rubgy nation/at least provide accurate or impressive demonstrations.
@IronMaiden3223 Wow, eloquent reply. I wasn't giving any advise other than listen to your coaches and don't go around calling people dumb - why is that bad advice?
As for positions, I was pointing out that there are no hard and fast rules as long as the front row are identified. Of course you specialise positions - normally you wouldn't put a lock on the wing and vice-versa, the physical attributes are generally very different. But you CAN if you need to (injuries, etc) was the point.
@randomorder321 1st i am a back row player and front row player so u can shut the hell up about people only being front row cause u really dont know what ur talking about
the only time u need to worry about putting backs in the scrum is if u have like 16 players
and ur arguin somethin so stupid, no 1 ever said u cant put any player in the scrum, but u think its ur job to inform me that any1 can play that position but i was replying to som1 saying that u put 1-7 in th scrums
@IronMaiden3223 you'll find that anyone can play in the scrum so long as the players in the front row are marked down as being front row specialists. Convention is that 1 and 3 prop, 2 hooks, 4 and 5 lock, 6 and 7 flank and 8 tries to piss off the backs by breaking off instead of leaving the ball for 9 to shift out to 10.
Back in the olden days some parts of the world had letters, others numbered in reverse. Also, you don't have to have 8 players in the scrum, though you're not gonna win much.
@randomorder321 umm well idk ur credentials but I have had coaches that have played proffesionaly and internationally for ireland newzealand and austrailia soo i think ill listen to them and not u.
from the sounds of it u dont have a very good stuctured team and not much of what u said is good rugby advise
@IronMaiden3223 Definitely listen to your coaches - seems you have a lot to learn & some great people to get experience from. But don't call others dumb when you don't know much more.
By convention it's 1-8 in the scrum (or replacements) and 9 feeding. But you could feasibly have a strong, tall, fast wing (11 or 14 usually) that you stick into the scrum for set plays as second row and have the lock (4 or 5 usually) out covering, not usual but you make best use of what you have.
im a hooker , been playin 4 1 yr nd have currently broke my collar bone in a scrum nd chipped my ankle, i also recently gat on da ulster team 4 under 18 and am pushing 4 ireland/wales, i would advise u work on lineouts more dan scrums:P:P
@mikey401k Good luck. American football seems incredibly complex and fractured, and while I enjoy watching it, I imagine playing it isn't great if you are on an off the pitch all the time. Out of interest, what position are you looking at playing when you start rugby? I used to be a full-back (league and union) which is great if you can run, but I imagine the next 10 replies to this comment will be from pack players who accuse me of shaving my legs and being soft :P

That was not a scrum, that was just some overweight guys trying to be props and hookers.
Plus they didnt even move the machine and their body position was just terrible and thats one way to brake your bones in a scrum.

@ridoryan What? When do people 'brake' bones in a scrum, let alone actually break them?
