Never heard this song before. Pretty nice and sweet. I wish O'bryan had something out today with this lame brain music of today. It would definitely be an improvement.
I don't know if you realize it but he has an album that he put out about 2 or 3 years ago called "F1RST". His first album in over 20 years. Chech I-Tunes or another online digital download service. I downloaded each of the ten tracks on the album for $0.89 per track and the album is well worth every penny.
All I know is that "Right From The Start" was only released as the B-Side of O'Bryan's second (and last from Doin' Alright lp) single, "Still Waters" 45 single in the US, but as the lp version (originally less than four and a half minutes). I think this longer version of "Right From The Start" (12 inch extended) was released overseas.
Just found out that this was released on January 1, 1982. So I guess most of the songs on the album were popular in spring of '82 and a little bit before that. The reason I ask for specific information is to put all vids I download in chronological order. The early 80s were the best that music had to offer, especially R&B and funk. That music was so fresh and new to me, and very exciting.
I'm never gonna stop loving music like this. This is one of the music i can't stop clapping and dancing too. If no one like this yall suck this is real music... I can imagine Michael Jackson can do this if he really wanted too.
This does sound like a Michael Jackson song from his Off The Wall lp. O'Bryan's debut had compositions related to Jackson (this song), Stevie Wonder ("Love Has Found Its Way"), Smokey Robinson ("Still Waters".....duh, because Smokey wrote it for The Four Tops), Teddy Pendergrass ("Its Over" and "Doin' Alright"), and Prince ("The Gigolo")!
Agree 100% with ya! This is one hell of a groove with one of the best/funkiest intros ever in a soul/funk record! Bliss! How can you NOT dance to this?
trivia time: the probable reason Gigolo released first was that at that time (early 80's)the movie American Gigolo was a buzz so many a song would ride the wave on that theme. Ozone "Gigolette", Fatback Band had a Gigolo song and even Mary Wells had a song out about a Gigolo.
This was hot!! I wonder why O'Bryan did'nt release this as a single in the US!! This would've topped higher than "The Gigolo" I think he performed "Right From The Start" on Soul Train back in 82"!

@slayerdogg I don't know if Maxwell was influenced by O'Bryan, but it's apparent that like Maxwell O'Bryan vocally was influenced by Marvin Gaye.

Was this an very early release in 1982 or later in the summer/winter of 1982? I only seem to remember this in late 1982, early 1983.
