the real eric and dylan were not gay, but the director did this in this movie as sort of a .. well.. ironic joke... idk what to call it.. because in real life people thought eric and dylan were gay because they were always together and they would tease them for it.

@johnmmn2 Well, actually, in the film they don't commit suicide; in fact Alex shoots Eric, but it's never seen in the movie that he kills himself.
