  • 3:54 music that was playing was from Bo Burnham's comedy song "Rant"

  • wow a hasselblad

  • It's totally about the pears here.

  • nice video... liked it

this page helped me too (type - lovefoodphotography) on facebook search

  • what camera is that ? looks like a kiev 80 but digital ? ..

  • do you really need all that preparation??? it's just a plate you shooting! technology still has a long way to go....

  • is this a man or a woman?

  • @perpexel good point !!

  • this guys a d

  • He gets PAID for this???

  • looks like the facejacker is a better food photographer...

  • woohoo! this job is for me!

  • i have to poop

  • when i look the ad, i say fuck this has to be delicious, then when the food comes out i say wtf give my money back

  • Excellent video. My wife and I are working on a food blog and this comes in handy.

  • great video, would love to chat with you to exchange some ideas

  • holiday dating site # lushfmlk.info #

  • I´m doing a shoot in two days for a restaurant menu, and i wish in this video they would be more specific about the lightning methods they use :S

  • Yeah i'm fine!

  • perfect job you take a picture then you eat it

  • Appreciated seeing 'behind' the scenes... wonderful! Thanks

  • I love this video ;)

  • this is cool... and somewhat simultaneously ridiculous..

  • That's not true that a full frame DSLR is better, it has it's benefits being more accessible but a 6x6 format can enlarge with a way better quality. Especially with an exceptional lens quality like a Hasselblad too. Or else why would he be using it? (but lighting is the most important of all)

  • what a job...

  • I knew it!!! thanks....

  • hi...I just wanna ask, what camera is the photographer using??? I think its a cool camera.

  • The camera is a hasselblad with maybe phase1 back on it.....or it could be a leaf....quite an old one. But remember kids....it aint the camera that makes it work...its the lighting. And those american food photographers pile food so high is it any wonder they all look like elephants when you see them at disneyland. Remember...less is more. God save the Queen.

  • @gidstar the ever present British inferiority complex at work. It's sad that you can't even enjoy a simple video without slamming the US. Sad

  • no...wrong. Im serious. Look at the size of those desert portions. You may not think its makes a difference nut its like having anorexics on magazine covers. it sends the wrong message. Fact....americans eat too much....stop this outrageous food photography and cut down portion sizes.

  • @gidstar

I don't think it's the food photography that's the problem... the photos are just showing the chef talent and food wonderful-ness; agreed that not everyone wants the same portion as the next guy.... can't we say 'let's not eat so darn much'? In the end isn't it up to each individual to regulate how much they eat?

  • @gidstar Hey..you are not everyone's mom. Chill.

  • is anybody watching this a food photographer? i'm a photo retoucher and i love to cook so looking to expand my work into food photos.

  • @benrobinson77 Hey i am actually...feel free to message me

  • Nice Hassie ;)

  • I KNEW I WOULD REGRET WATCHING THIS!!!!...now i'm hungry. ;(

  • interesting

  • what kind of camera is he using?

  • its a hassleblad...

  • He is using a Hasselblad 503CWD medium format camera, which basically is the classic 503CW with a 16 megapixel digital back on it.

  • So, you are the guy responsible for my extra pounds. Noted.

  • @vidraw no, YOU are responsible for your extra pounds, don't blame your lack of self control on someone else lol

  • i love it, food porn!

  • @shoobedoorocketship For you maybe. For me it's totally Hassy camera porn!

  • that would be fun... i'm sure that guy never goes home hungry

  • wao very good

  • ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hes using a hassy 60's lens C* ,what a quality. I'll bet that most of all the commenters are not that old.ha...ha...ha... love the work&Gear.

  • Photography + Food + Art= My Passion!

  • I could go for a Hungry Man TV dinner right about now.

  • Love this video! I was always wondering how to take beautiful food pictures like you see in cookbooks. Fabulous! 5 stars

  • thank you

  • whats the song 3:54

  • Fort Minor - Remember The Name

  • it's not about the camera, it's all about man behind it :)

  • how does one light up the food and make it really pop? Just wondering. Hmm....

  • this guy "prophotolife" has some great videos on lighting small objects and products in simple inexpensive ways.

  • . . . two-dimensional space ? Well, interesting anyway.

  • I myself am a canon user, but true Hasselblad, Leaf, Phase One digi. backs are going to be superior to Canon and Nikon's offerings. The 1Ds Mk III and D3 from Nikon have sharpness near the same quality as medium format cameras but the megapixels aren't quite there.

But if you look at Lara Ferroni she uses a Canon 5D/20D for food photgoraphy, the first time I saw it I thought "wow, she must use a Hassy...it was really encouraging to find out you didn't have to have a MF camera to do good work.

  • hasselblad is superior to any 35mm camera simply because of the 6X6 format

  • nop... get a HASSELBLAD

  • Oh God! This is not gonna spark a camera battle, is it? I think this video is about the subject matter! YouTube is full of Dorks!

  • Come on is all about lenses and lighting! Whatever your camera is!

  • Nice job of making the tutorial about the image and not about f-stops and equipment.

Good images too...you're right, they succeed when they make me hungry.

    I'm officially hungry.

  • That's amazing. The picture on the menus of food are always immaculate, and sometimes the picture looks better than the actual food itself (this is only at the movie theaters, where they abuse food.)

  • Have you considered Pentax? Excellent cameras that are not terribly expensive.

  • 400 D

    hands down

  • HELLO everyone i need help picking a camera. I have limited it down to 4:

    Canon Rebel XTi (400 D)

    Olmpus Evolt E-510

    Nikon D40x

    Sony Alpha A100

I need the one with the best image quality, that will last me a long time, and that isn't painfully difficult to use.

    Thanks

  • Just my 2 cents I am getting 400 D for christmas, I think it will be good for me seeing as it's my first SLR camera.

  • get a nikon

  • i have the d40x, but i know the canon is a good one to use as well. the d4x is pretty much user-friendly and extremely flexible when it comes to controlling your shot

  • thanks everyone i got the 400D its freakin sweet!

  • Just my two cents. I own a Nikon D50 and D200. I view the D40 series as a step backward in the entry level Digital SLR market. If you can't afford to go with the D80, the select the Cannon or Sony. Either are solid choices.

  • get casio cam its very nice

  • my hats off to this dude...i shoot aircraft interiors...sooooooooo many wannabees with their digital rebels or d-10's are fast to say they could do better...damn their sorry butts.

  • but some of us the Rebels and d-10 have no choise to shoot with what we've got.... doesnt mean all of us a wannabees... you got a pretty big ego to be saying that. we all have our own style of photography.

  • no sign of disrespect meant...my assistant has a n olympus e-20...she is an EXCEPTIONAL shooter...good luck in your endevours.

  • they say its not arrow but the indian, what matters

  • custer would agree.

  • That was very interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a more complicated lighting set up in my life! I love seeing what other photographers do behind the seens, thanks for posting it.

  • check out actor christopher walken cooking on imcooked(dot)com a new site just like youtube but for cooking only check it out and upload any cooking videos you have its really cool

  • oh this was realy intresting .. he talked about takieng pictures of food for 4 mins..† hates u †

  • Any real pro wouldn't use a prism.

  • A real pro would use any tool that got the job done...

  • a real pro is someone who makes a living with his photos, i guess this guy does..

and a real pro especially don't need any comments from bored youtube people because he has no time for that shit, he's out shooting

  • Very interesting video. Full of information and now too verbose. I'd kill to be this guy's apprentice! hehe

  • what happens to the food? Thrown away after all that attention....

  • this guys running a digital back on his medium format but can't afford a prism to look through?

  • that is a waist level finder which are far superior to looking through a prism. please, if you are going to make a negative comment, at least make an informed negative comment.

  • for foodies this channel is fantastic

  • Very interesting how liberals like this guy and the rest of the crew are so concerned about feeding the poor. Do you have ANY idea how much money a photography session like this can cost? hmmmm...... Priorities?

  • I didn't realize there was such a thing as a "food stylist."

And I love that there are so many options out there for photographers. Gives me more faith in my major.

  • Yeah, but some food 'stylists' don't use actually food. They put gasoline on turkey to make it shiny, they put white glue instead of milk in cereal box pictures...

  • mmm tasty

  • I am starving

  • Don't bash this guy.

    He's a photographer.

His subject matter is just food.

    I think it's marvelous.

  • Good video, and much respect to these hard working pro's. I'm sure it's a pretty big field actually, considering all the photography of food I see in magazines, etc.

  • wow. these people work really hard! i'm serious! NO ONE WOULD EVER EAT FOOD IF IT NEVER LOOKED APPETIZING!!!!

  • i agree, but look at fast food. that shit is disgusting yet people eat it anyways XD

  • good point.

  • He probably make triple what you make at the redneck burger king.

  • Making this reply proofs that he has a more interesting life than you.

  • actually it's quite interesting.

  • talking, talking, talking but wanting nothing to tell...

  • Awesome..xO I wanna do it too..x'D but this video sucks..

  • lol, people think saying no offense after a rude comment makes it all better e.x

Shut up you fat bitch (no offense)

I hope you get killed my a truck (no offense)

  • Hehe food stylist.

  • that could have been way more interesting.

why don't they just take a picture of the food how it would look sitting right in front of you.

  • i think this is one of the proffesions no one ever really considers.

  • you guys make no sense.

by saying "no offense" you don't make an insult any less offensive. It's still really rude.

and as for having "wasted 4:32 of your life"

why did you waste 5 more seconds on commenting then?

  • This would have been considerably more interesting if they showed white paint being used for cream, or sparkling water for bubbly frying, or even plastic models of chocolate, as it was just a cover up of the real tricks that are used which was a little dissapointing.

  • I think it is god to go. These people have no clue what is going on and have no idea that what they look at on the McD's menu is what you worked on. Photography is hard, they have bo idea. Good work. JEL

  • SEEE??? U UNDERSTAND WHATS ACTUALLY HAPPENING, AND UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE, YOU ACTUALLY listened TO THE VIDEO INSTEAD OF COMMENTING ON IT RIGHT WHEN YOU SEE THE FIRST 2 SECONDS!!!!

  • Interesting, but just not captivating, sorry

  • Anyone who says something is "way cool" is wrong just because they said that. No exceptions. I mean a food photography video is the bottom of the food chain anyways so... god, man... this isn't in the least bit interesting...

  • what a tool bag. they need to take the word "art" out of the title. ass clowns.

  • photography is an art!

  • fuck you douchebag.

  • gave me some ideas to improve my photos for selling on ebay

  • Of coz its worth money, and some joy accomplishing, thats not what i meant.

  • Sorry but this is a worthless job from my perspective

  • i bet he makes WAY more than you

  • Advertising isn't worthless. It helps draw people to the product. You might as well say that the people that design posters for movies and the packaging for soft drinks have worthless jobs.

  • i agree complitily

  • cool

  • such great concept

  • I have always been fasinated with food photography thanks!

  • iv been agonising over what i am going to do my next colour folio for next semester... i think i mite try food photography,

    thanx for da inspiration!!! :)

  • im hungry

  • This is gay.

  • Well, I like the video... BUT if I have to hear another over-used Garageband loop, I'm litterally going to start munching drywall to alleviate the inner-termoil caused by such cliched "riffs".

  • amazing

  • ..food photography..cool job!! (the photographer can eat the food after the shoot right??)

  • nice video, and grats to the chef who made me realize that I hate the word "earthy."

  • i think it´s a bit overexposured

  • awesome

  • I expect the actual skills... not their thoughts.

    but that was cool.

  • Behind every great photographer is a great team, a smooth production is strategically designed. Every project is unique; it is not an absolute process. The collaborative process is driven by the individual capabilities of each person involved. Enter the creative process with an open mind and trust the insight we each bring to the set.

  • Good on what it shows, well done video. However, would love to see one that covers how they fake food (such as ice cream), or do "cheats" that make it look better (marbles in bottom of bowl of soup, etc)

  • We're not allowed to use marbles in soup anymore. For icecream, we use cold mashed potato and alter the colour in Adobe PhotoShop. For cheesy pizza, we arrange cold mozarella against a lifted slice then melt it with a torch. For moist food, we brush on liquid glycerine. For steam, we use dry ice.

  • Food and photography look great! Now I'm hungry! Great Video!!!

  • It is totally about the pears.

  • say cheese

  • i'm glad that i saw this video...because the two things that i want to make a career of are cooking and photography...so this really helped me alot...thanks =D

  • hahahahahahaha garage band cut at the end.

  • mmm

  • Cool
