I ordered one online Fri came today Mon, $50 Australian, pretty quick delivery , not overly impressed with the grind, looks like I'll need to spend a few mins finishing it up, but apart from that it seems ok ..
@vic01able Best thing to do is to have a look on the Husqvarna website, they tell you the retailers nearby. I would recommend finding a shop that stocks them that way you can choose one with the best grain etc.
the husqvarna is a middle ground between the wetterlings and GB quality wise but they are priced lower than the Wetterlings at least in Alberta. I picked up the "all around" axe. for $71 i think.
how do you like the 13 inch handle? I'm thinking of getting this hatchet but don't know whether to get the 13 inch or the 20 inch handle. what would you suggest?
@MrXtream123 Its nice and compact but the short handle can have its limitations, for me personally I prefer the size and weight of the 13 inch one at present.
WOW, I checked out those Granfors Bruks. Those puppys are pricy aren't they.Oh well I didn't really want a Cadillac in the woods anyway,,,,Holy Patudy,,,My Husqvarna got delivered today.Hey Colin, this is a nice little hatchet,,,,Thanks Bud
@LiamMitts Hi Bill, yeah those GB axes are expensive, I would like to try one someday. But the Husqvarna is great for the money, glad yours arrived, I hope you have a great time using it, take care my good friend.
Hey Colin, After watching your hatchet video I ordered one.I was looking at Wetterlings but they are almost triple the price of Husqvarna here in Canada. Thanks for doing your video on Husqvarna,I forgot they made a great hatchet.Take care,Bill
That *IS* how you pronounce it... if you're William Wallace! J/K. I love the accent, and I'm picking up one of these hatchets this weekend, thanks for the review!
Your videos really sealed the deal for me. I was between this and a Fiskars, but this one won my vote. I found a local Husqvarna dealer. They are ordering one for me and I'm getting it for about $6 bellow what I've seen online and of course NO shipping! My only concern is the sheath. Any suggestions for a belt attach system, or is it too large for that? I've not handled one yet, so I"m not sure if it is even going to work on a belt with the right sheath. Thanks again for the great videos!
@pmhauge Thanks my friend, glad you are getting one and at a great price by the sounds of it as well. The sheath I have won't allow belt carry however you can tuck the axe itself down the sheath. Cheers my friend, hope you enjoy your hatchet when it arrives.
I have one like that and love it! Overall length (measuring handle) about 12 9/16". I also have the larger Husqvarna H006sv which is also made in Sweden and is a very nice axe, too.
The reason i bought the all round axe is because it has a larger shaft and stronger blade. I paid 48 euro for it at a official husqvarna dealer. I splitted firewood with it and it worked great. I chopped down already some big bushes and it that was easy. It needed just a few powerfull blows. This is a superb axe. (BTW i think your right about the standard sheath size. Mine fits perfect and looks just the same as yours)
@WapenVerzamelaar Thanks my friend, sounds like your all round axe works really well for you. I have been very pleased with mines so far. Thanks for the info on the sheath as well, its good to know. Thank you for taking the time to view and comment my friend, take care.
I have the Husqvarna all round axe. I found this information on the internet: Husqvarna axes are handforged of high quality Swedish steel and have a hickory handle. Swedish steel is alloyed with silicon, magnesium and vanadium, which gives a superior tempering of the steel. The result are axes that are both strong and sharp. The shafts are made of American hickory, which brings the toughness and strength you can expect from an axe handle.
This is more of what ive been looking fo, looks a little more heavy duty, plus if it breaks down in the field you could carve another handle whereas the fiskars would be a bitch to try to improvise a fix for, it could still be done rather easily but i think im going with this style.
Colin, Thanks for the review, I picked one of these up today for my Chrismas Present from my wife. Very nice Hatchet for the money Great Deal!! 40.00 US
this is basically a wetterlings. the husqvarna's are made by either wetterlings or hultafors bruks. this particular one is made by wetterlings so therefor it should serve you well for many years to come
yeah they are made by wetterlings and they make awesome axes hand forged, they are leaps and bounds better that the hardware store variety, i got the large hunting axe and its amazing its not the prettiest thing in the world but neither am i but it chops wood better than any axe iv'e ever used check out my vid....thanks..ss13
G,day Colin, The Australian army after a lot of testing chose Husqvana as the contracted supplier of chain saws, so they must be reliable and tough. As for the axe I have a GB small forest axe and a Wettlings backpack axe and I can not see any significant difference in them or your Hasqvana axe. When it come to making and forging steel no one does it like the Swedish. I recently saw an item about GB buying up Wettlings. I do not know if they will be absorbed or left to trade.
Yup same company made rifles, damn good rifles in fact. Early ones based on the CRF Mauser 98 action and another line based on a push feed Garl Gustav action. Loved my .30-'06 and .358 Norma Mag I owned way back when.
@Glockster42 358 Norma Mag , were you hunting mack trucks? I'll bet there was more than a little colour in your shoulder the next day. Years ago at a range in Sydney a bloke gave me a couple of shots of a 9.3 x 62 double rifle, that was too much gun for me, I stuck to my little 308 after that, it's a far more civilised calber and one that did not turn your shoulder purple. All the best. Jeff
@labrat7357 No, no colour and just moose, elk and occasionally bear. Just a fantastic calibre, but at the time .358 cal bullets just were not up to the velocity and cases were very difficult to come by. Agree with you and the .308, its pretty much my go to gun for everything now. Still have a soft spot for the big boomers though. Cheers
Hi Colin Just received my Husqvarna Axe It's an Excellent weight and size Ideal for survival.. It has an oiled leather sheath/ Blade Cap. Just need to get a Axe lop for the belt. Many thanks for this Video Colin.
My last dirt bike was a Husqvarna, (1980?) WR430, great bike, really miss it. Owned some Husky chainsaws, rebranded Chi-Com Poulens but that hatchet looks quality. Good review Colin.
Great vid as usual mate. I have a Husky chainsaw helmet which has had a lot of use and has proved itself very well. For chainsaw gear I find huksy's stuff second to only maybe Stihl, but they are a great company producing very high quality gear.
Not totally connected to your survival vids, but I thought I'd share my experience with other husky stuff.
@Slash28ACR Thanks for sharing your experience of the Husky brand, alot of people rate them very highly and that has given me great encouragement in my choice
Hi Colin, I never was an axe-person myself, but your axe looks good. And I know Husqvarna as a companie that made off-road mototbikes as well. Realy good machines. Dont know if they still do that. Have fun with your axe, that looks very easy to cary too my.
Colin , i have 1 of these too , i bought it for $36 AU , recently i noticed the price went up to $ 46 Au. fantastic tool for the money !!
I also researched online , and I can see 2 diff hatchet designs 1 is more bearded than the other ,, As far as I can tell wetterlings made these under contract for Husqvarna , just as some of the Husqvarna folding saws are rebranded Felco saws. As far as I could tell Hultafors made some of the more recent ( unbearded ? ) axes.
@graveforest666 only people who believe in those things experience them mate. spend a few weeks with the aborign's. They'll get ya spooked about the wilderness in no time!
Any idea "how" soon your field review might be? As something to look forward too, also apparantly you can make tent pegs with axes/hatchets, might be interesting if you incorporated that into your review :)
Hi Colin, loved your vid on the Husky! Here in BC, Husqvarna is very highly regarded for their chain saws, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, that sort of thing, small engine products. I love the product, and I had not known that they make hatchets, or any other hand tool, really. The tool looks very handsome; I have a soft spot in my heart for axes and their little brothers. I think I have 4 right now. I guess there's another topic for a tabletop review, huh? Show this is action!
Awesome video Collin. That is a top notch hatchet. If I were stranded on an island or in the wilderness and I was only given one tool to be stranded with... it would be the hatchet. Thanks for sharing.
great video collin but this is way we pronouce it, husk-a-varn-nu, of couse thats in the states... you say it the way you want to say it ! great video.... the brad name is a huge and if the best maker of chainsaws! my dad acctualy owns one great saw and allso a great video
Great choice, I have a similar hatchet of the same brand name only not as nice as yours. I agree about the more traditional feel and look of this hatchet. In time the wood handles become unique more than metal tends to get. Cheers.
Hey Colin, if you've not seen them, you might like to watch Wranglerstar's videos on axes. "Can you handle an axe" watch?v=xnmhzAoKs-w and "Sharp as an axe" watch?v=xnmhzAoKs-w Very good info in these two videos on caring for your axes. Thanks for the great videos!
You'll find no better fer edged choppin er light camp work! The only problem you'll find is the wieght. This is a very good tool ta have fer outdoor use. Husqvarna you'll find will be hard ta beet! GOD BLESS!
dude, nice beefy handle right? I like how it still looks ergonomic too. Eww collin said forum...look out for trolls my friend! w . american tomahawk . com
@medicjimr Thanks Jim, I Like the Wetterlings, they look like great axes also. Over here it seems they are a little more expensive that the Husqvarna.
Colin! It's not Hooksvarna it's pronounced Husk-varna. I never knew how to pronounce it till I saw a dirt bike commercial in the states. Yes its the same company that makes chainsaws and such.
I have never used any of their axe's or hatchet's but have used thier chain saws and weed trimmers alot. If the quality of the axe and hatchet are the same as their power tools I think you are going to be happy about your purchase.

Awesome video Collin. That is a top notch hatchet. If I were stranded on an island or in the wilderness and I was only given one tool to be stranded with... it would be the hatchet. Thanks for sharing.

I love Husqvarna stuff .. its cheaper than Stihl and the same quality. Although nothing beats a STIHL chainsaw
trenttyre 1 year ago
@trenttyre Cool, thanks for the info my friend, I am glad there are many people who rate the Husqvarna brand, can't wait to test out my new hatchet
ColinOutdoors 1 year ago
Great choice, I have a similar hatchet of the same brand name only not as nice as yours. I agree about the more traditional feel and look of this hatchet. In time the wood handles become unique more than metal tends to get. Cheers.

@ColinOutdoors one of the best things about the hatchet is its weight, I bought this of a guy but he had made a sheath that can be worn on the belt.
i will try messaging you a link to some images of it.

Colin! It's not Hooksvarna it's pronounced Husk-varna. I never knew how to pronounce it till I saw a dirt bike commercial in the states. Yes its the same company that makes chainsaws and such.
Lecherousity 1 year ago
@Lecherousity Lol, thanks my friend, I'll need to remember that. I didn't realise they made dirt bikes too, very cool.
ColinOutdoors 1 year ago
I have never used any of their axe's or hatchet's but have used thier chain saws and weed trimmers alot. If the quality of the axe and hatchet are the same as their power tools I think you are going to be happy about your purchase.
