@bigcountry5007 ; You're uh...... completely oblivious to the "it was run WOT all the time when my brother had it" "the motor was trashed" and "it was beat its entire life" comments, eh? Reading comprehension, it's not a myth, try it.
I think its funny that people are scared to buy high mileage trucks and go waste money on a brand new truck. You can go buy a used silverado thats clean as a new one with 100,000 miles or more and pay one third the price of a new one and it will go another 100.000+ . These newer motors are unreal.
I love these new generation motors, but my brother beat the holy piss out of this truck for the first 7-ish years of its life. Always kept it WOT, etc.
@nevermindthedog i completely agree, i bought an 02 gmc sierra ext cab with the 5.3 two years ago. 80,000 miles and it cost 13 grand, when a new truck with a comparable set up would have been 25+ , i just dont get why people will load themselves in debt to have whats brand new
@phil656565 Agree, I got a 02 ext Silverado base, with tow pkg, cruise and pdl for $6,000 in 2007, had 155,000 miles on it then, but looked clean(minus a dent) now it has nearly 200,000 miles and still runs great. recently got the dent out and the truck looks almost new when washed. Even if the motor or tranny are in bad shape its still alot cheaper to fix it vs paying at least 23+ grand for a new w/t ent, especially in this economy.
@640101vh i hear ya there, ive got a dent to get fixed then it will look pretty much new minus some scratches on the bed rails and a ding in the bumper, the tranny was rebuilt two weeks after i bought the truck and the dealership paid for it, the motor has a little piston slap when its cold but all 5.3's do, i love the new trucks but i cant justify buying one till i can pay cash
The phrase "Almost dead" should be quite a hint that the motor was trashed. And I'm glad your truck has 3.42 gears, and 300,000 miles, really I am, but this Silverado is 100% stock, no gears, no shift kits, beat on its entire life, never babied.
i wanna buy a 2003 silverado with 191000km on it but my dad says its half dead...but its just gonna be a winter beater so do you figure it will last a good 50-100 thou km? or if theres major problems youve heard about them having?
Well, since we use miles here in the US, I had to use a converter, but yeah, it should last probably another 200,000km's.
As long as you keep up maintenance, the 5.3's are great motors, and that's mainly what the 03+ Silverados come with, good luck with yours. The only issue my brother had with his 03 (which is in my other videos), was a bad tach lead which caused the tach to be off severely.
It can be repaired with a rebuild. The point of the "half dead" statement, was, it randomly has top-end ticks, even after lash adjustment. There's times it doesn't want to run right, etc. That's what I meant by "half-dead". It's got like...... almost 200,000 miles now, and still running like it was in this video.
@hemipower333 ; Yeah... I would go the LED route, but NY cops are complete fucking pricks and pull you over for stupid shit. My truck has TracRac ladder racks and I got pulled over for having lumber on top of 'em like they're supposed to be used for.
@hemipower333 ; Yeah, tell me about it. All I try to do is make an honest living in construction, and they wanna try to fuck it up over some bullshit "Obstruction of view" crap.
@hemipower333 man thats not cool at all. what are you supposed to do hang it 5 feet out the box with a red flag? atleast the way your hauling it is safe. and that doesnt make sense obstruction of view. your not supposed to be looking at the sky while driving. makes me mad hearing about that. id fight it.
@skeet2face09 ....I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L.... i have about 200,000 miles..... and i saw your comment about 2 fuel pumps....what was wrong with them? Cuz i my truck dont turn on, until the like the 3rd time i try to start the engine...seems like if i charge the gas (turn the key to the on position before the engine turns on, and turn back to the off, and do this 4 times) it starts on the first time...could it be my fuel pump?
i bought an 01 sierra z71 slt with 260k km and it runs strong. pulled a trailer load of trees from 3 hours away at least 10 times by now and nothin has seem to come up, so just regular maitanace and i think any truck will last forever
my buddy when i was in highschool had a beat up 2000 f150 4x4 with the 5.4. he beat the shit out of it everyday, the engine knocked heavily, burnt oil, and had 350k km on it...it still ran though. he couldnt kill it. the only thing is that the 97-04 ford trucks rust pretty easily. his box was completely rusted through and his wheels werent even recognizable. still a fun truck tho
my bro had an 01 f150 kingranch. no rust. and he did kinda beat it a little but he did take care of it. and he loved it. never a problem. but my parents bought him a new 08 ford fusion for school in arizona and he came back after 4 months. 8 months later it got totaled. i got 2 vids on that. so now he really misses his f150. he has a 91 towncar.
Just keep up on the maintenance, we bought a Silverado brand new in 2001 and still have her and shes about to hit 223 thousand miles, she runs like a charm!!!
This one had been beat for a while by my brother before I got it. The first 166k were beat on miles. And it's still kickin' and tickin'. I love these LS based motors.
Pretty soon here. It's going full Kenne Bell 383 stroker.
