  • I first heard this song about a year ago.... good to hear it again... thanks.

  • Clever cartoon; like the drawings. Good tune; love Reeder's voice, playing, lyrics.. I just discovered Reeder last week, via his Cowboy Song. New fan. No wonder John Prine supports him!

  • Lyrical genius. For those of you whom love a lyricist. Dan Reeders your man. Truly thought provoking material. Sounds like a soundtrack for socialism.

  • Lyrical genius....... For those of you who love a lyricist. Dan Reenders your man. Though provoking material.

  • anyone have the chords for this song?

  • Tuning: D-A-D-G-B-E Chords: D-G-A

For the verses, play the D chord in the 5th position w/D string open - G chord (6th string fretted at 5th fret, 1st string fretted at 3rd fret, others open) - A chord @ second fret.

For the chorus, the progression is: G, D, A, D.

Play around with the walks starting on the 6th string and it'll come together.

  • what are the cords for this

  • excellent

    thank you

  • Dan's the man!

  • I learned this great guy from Pandora. It tells you music you would like. It was listening to Jakob Dylan, and they showed me him.

  • I first heard him on Pandora as well. He's an interesting guy. Builds most of his own equipment and clearly marches to the beat of a different drummer.

  • Reeder rules.

  • this guy is so cool. i especially like "work song"

  • Are you some kind of idiot? Do you take everything that everyone sings about to be completely literal and/or biographical? Why don't you grow a brain?

  • Words can have meaning. If this is meant as hyperbole, then I think there should be another verse more outrageous than the first. It's just my opinion. I was shocked by the lyrics, perhaps exactly as the author intended.

  • I suggest you listen to the entire album, as this is hardly the most shocking thing on it. Furthermore, the context this track is placed into in the album basically shifts the entire thing into a narrative on modern society, and guess what? Lots of people get into marriages that they later find to be prisons. It's not that hard to figure out.

  • I wonder how his swiss army knife & baseball cap feel about being called shackles and chains?

  • Great stuff....Would like to see&hear more!!

  • seen this guy in glasgow supporting John Prine, he was fecking great, His best song is " The work song"

  • Great Stuff!

I saw him opeining for John Prine last sunday. superb get more up!

  • please come see my pege and comment i wanna know what u think about my faves too

  • I'm gonna do "All the work I need" along with "Homemade Guitar." I see this is the only tune on the 'tube.' There needs to be more. Stay Tuned! I sound perty much just like'm! GREAT VIDEO!

  • Dan Reeder is the best. No question about it. Ichiban all the way, that's all the modern family is: shackles & chains. Us intelligent folk stay away from procreation.

  • Only homemade video I ever cared for.

    Thanks pal

  • very good video for a very talented man. Love his work. He has a littel fanclub here in Iceland

  • really good ı like this video

  • does anyone know where i can get dan reeder tabs? i would tab them myself, but i suck at it.

  • This is a very cute and witty animation. Thanks so much. Reeder is a huge talent using such minimal means.

My whole family are fans. The two kids sit in the back of the car singing along to Clean Elvis.

  • I am a large fan.

  • Like fat?

  • like fat ... but in the head.

  • just saw him twice. He is great. Bought his new cd - vg

  • dan reeder is awsome, very understated music and it's all on homemade gear. has a new album coming out soon.
