  • I LOVE HER!!!!

  • Mighty whistling!

  • We just had her live down here in Savannah, Ga for the Irish festival. She was incredible. Nicest person I have ever met.

  • daamn, that was superb!!!! O.O

    and I love Irish music!~^_^

  • @GtheJAR who doesn't? besides the British, Haters... and the KKK....

  • Sure you're awesome! You can hear a rather good flutist girl in NOIR HOUBLON. Let's listen to and enjoy their High Reel version!

  • Look at the whistle. That is a very well cared for yet well used whistle. Amazing playing. Tin Whistles are my absolute favorite, and she does the instrument well. ^-^

  • Now this is good Tin Whistle playing y´ll! She is the female version of Kevin Crawford!! Two great Whistle players! More Whistle for the people!

  • I could go on listening to her music all day.

  • I was fortunate enough to get to hear her play tonight in a concert with her group Cherish the Ladies. Both her musical skill and her stage personality were wonderful. As I watched this video I found myself in awe just seeing how fast her fingers move. You really can't comprehend that from 40 or 50 feet away. She is amazing.

  • what make of whistle is that?! sounds phenominal

  • quel talent !!

  • superb

  • oh shes gooooooooood

    >.>

    <.<

  • She's a lovely woman <3!

  • This woman is so good, that I could honestly swear that it seems at times like when she breathes in, sound is still coming out of the whistle

  • @Varian128 Great comment, I know what you mean!

  • jasus shes good

  • What kind of whistle is Joannie playing?

  • @IrishTubaMan O'Riordan whistle.

  • i'd love to see her fingers without having to pause the video... ;D

  • a real Whistle Queen, and a very nice girl, too!

  • Beautiful music! The first time I heard her music was part of a holiday compilation called Windham Hill, Winter Solstice.

  • WOW

  • Perfect!! You are so Legend.

  • The last tune is so sweet...

...fantastic backing as well by Daithí Sproule

  • @QRS666 Big time, it's close alright

  • Fantastic! Joannie - your awesome and make my Irish eyes smile:-). Spamers and haters go get a life or I could show you a few high cliffs to jump off of.

  • Great stuff !!!!

    highly recommend her album

(a whistle on the wind )

  • I'd really love to play a Pat Tierney whistle, but it's so expensive :( I make my whistles myself... Check my channel!!

  • Cherish the Ladies!! Joanie's awesome!!! Play forever!!!

  • Simply amazing, I would like someday to play the tin whistle like this lady... but it must be impossible.

Concerning spammers, just dont care of them, bah :P.

  • these three reels are among the best i've ever hear.. I'll learn all of them... Joanie makes the music more beautiful

  • Perfect!!!.....Very Very Great. One of the best i ever heard

  • @NinjaBob23 excuse me sir. Joanie Madden is probably the nicest lady ever. Beyond that, she is one of the best whistle players to ever live. Beyond that, she could kick your ass.

  • @NinjaBob23 I think you are really idiot. If you just looked for The High Reel before talking, you would have found out that that's a famous irish tune, that she is performing at the top..And I personally think this is the best whistle video on youtube. Maybe you were joking, weren't you?

  • @NinjaBob23

Like to see you "randomly hit holes", dumbass.

  • The greatest entertainer in trad. The music, the stories, the love that comes from Joanie Madden. Every audience is hers.

  • There's my Aunt Joanie and Joanie is spelled with 1 'n'!

  • Very inspiring!

    Thank you Joannie.

  • Awesome backing

  • Brillant!!! 5 stars!!!

  • Joannie Madden is the queen¡¡¡

  • that's some fie whistle playin! Good job on your fingering. Very smooth transiton into the sothe tunes and your transition into other octives. Well done.

  • Had to laugh, seeing as she is probably the most in-demand Whistle player for Master classes IN THE WORLD!

  • maith a chailin - up mayo

  • joanie does not have a mustache!!!! That's the camera..... you are nothing short of a jerk.... she's the best there is!

  • Excelente, muchas gracias!!!

  • This is amazingly beautiful!!!! TY for posting it!

  • Her first name is spelt "Joanie."

  • Prier4french...I believe she is playing on a Pat O' Riodarn whistle....which are very expensive and I think made entirely (except for the tuning slide) out of exotic woods (ebony, maghogany, etc.)

If there is one women I would be with....it's Joannie Madden.

  • It doesn't seem to be wooden. It has a metallic shining. However, her extraordinary technique makes it sound as a wooden one. She is amazing!!!

I saw her in another video with another whistle, a metal one, but the timbre she gets is round and wooden-like

  • It is an O'Riordan whistle. The body is made out of Aluminum, and the headpiece is made out of Delrin, which is a very durable plastic. O'Riordans either come in aluminum bodies, or wooden ones.

  • TY, Whistle Collector!!! Plz forgive me, I wanted to give you a good mark but I failed and pointed to the other hand :-(((

Now I don't know how to turn the time back!!!

    Good post!!!

  • if she does, then ohhhhhhhhh well!!!!!!! all you should be listening to is the music, not picking apart the person...this isnt hollywood!!

  • then shut the hell up, youre just ONE person! no one cares what you think!

  • what??? You are stupid. I asked what kind of fipple she uses and you think that is personal? It's the mouthpiece!

  • Super schnell, super gut.

  • Is her fipple wooden, plastic, or metal?

  • That's a bit personal isn't it! :-)

  • Oh, does anybody know where I can get these videos in full, I wouldn't mind watching straight through all the performances

  • So is High Reel the second tune? It sounds like it...but I don't know it all that well

    great playing!

  • the first one is The High Reel (aka The Whistling Postman). its also known as the Old High Reel, as opposed to the more commonly known High Reel in A mix! Dunno the name of the second. Mary Bergin recorded just as "Gan Ainm" or "Without a Name." cheers!

  • I think the second tune is called Naughton's.

  • She played 4,543,361 notes in 3 minutes, 12 seconds. I counted them.

  • I bow down to you Joanie. I only dream of being that good!

  • great whistle work, absolutely love it mo chara!!!

  • richtig geil *_*

  • Outstanding.

  • this is so good I love it

  • She is SHREDDING the tin whistle. 5 Stars

  • Joanie u truly are an inspiration!

  • She is the goddess of the whistle!!

    From Catalonia to Ireland!

  • impressing... i hope i will learn to play whistles like she does...

  • Look at those worn down holes at 1:47 . Play that much, that hard, and you'll get there I'm sure.

  • wow! her fingers seem to do a F1 race ;)

    Great whistle player!

  • verry good!!! :D

    great song

  • fliipin heck that is quick

  • I think the second tune is called Naughton's.

  • once u get to joanies level of playing, then u can start criticizing her playing. as of now, just sit back and enjoy the music.

  • Hmm apeofgod1, to me it means this: she's not biting on the fipple, which is a good thing. With that flurry of finger movements the whistle is going to move around a bit.

  • looks like orthodoxsteal made some friends!!!

  • At the concert we saw, Joannie held the group together and injected more fun and joy into the evening than the rest of the group combined. Long live Joannie!

  • ... sort of like your post, eh, NewYorkS4U?

  • hmm. you must not know her too well then.

  • Yeah!

  • Flawless

  • Nice to meet you. I'm OrthodoxSteel and I have had no talent for years.

  • Hi Orthodox, have you been an jerk for all of your life???? Why don't you go out and get a life! You are just plain rude. Joanie is one of the greatest whistle players and most well like musicians in the history of Irish music! You are just too stupid or too ignorant to know any better. Didn't your mother ever say if you don't have something nice to say, keep it shut! Well, you should listen!

  • Comment removed

  • fantastic!

  • My god that's amazing..

I wish to reach half her level one day.

But for now I can only watch amazed.. How is that possible. Look at those fingers, it's like it's fake.. Brilliant.

  • Jesus Christ you're fast! Nice job lady! It probably needs long periods of practices to get to that level of speed and precision!

  • wow. what whistling. great accompaniment, too.

anyone know what whistle joannie plays?

  • I think she plays an O'Riardon whistle. Not sure of the spelling on that...

  • Yep, that's what she's playing.

  • Good gracious, I'm so envious!!!

  • awesome!!

  • She asked me once if I wasn't tired of following her (and Cherish the Ladies) around, but she didn't wait for my answer. Cut to the chase.

  • "Roman hands & Russian fingers." ----Fantastic--you can play at my wake any day!

  • joannie! please come to staten island. and bring as many women of ireland as possible with you! love you.--richard.

  • When I used to go to sessiuns in NY it was ALWAYS a huge bonus when Joannie showed up. I would always request Roisin Dubh, no one plays that like Joannie. Now I have a bunch of her stuff on itunes but I have to start going to the sessiuns again. Love ya Joannie!

  • I think it is great

Maureen Renee Kathleen Salley Forty Fort PA

  • Lovely playing real magic.

  • i love Joni she was my whistle teacher at Augusta this year

  • Can anyone identify her whistle? It looks a bit like a custom O'Reordan.

  • It is definitely and O'Riordan, it looks to me that it is a concert whistle with an aluminum body. I think it is Pat's older works.

  • I agree. It's an O'Riordan and just well-worn around the finger holes.

  • Damn, as soon as she starts playing, it's like the video's on fast forward.

  • Good gracious! I've been pwned hardcore! :O

  • We've all been pwned - good and hard.

  • the second tune was popularized by mary bergin, she recorded it on her first solo album, feadoga stain, in 1979. It's called John Naughton's

  • thxs for the reference. Very appreciated ;)

  • lùnasa also plays the second tune, the video also is on youtube: kevin crawford plays it.

  • .....she should play paintball...look at her fingers move, astonished.

  • parsippany, NJ???? March what??? am i too late?!?!!? oh no this was big news i can't believe i might have missed it. unless its not nj then its ok... please let me know

  • I'm just without words

    Wich whistle is she using?

  • Looks like the Clarke Celtic in D

  • Pat O'Riordan D whistle

  • Graet!!!

Where can I get one of that?

  • you are such a good whistle player, an inspiration to us all

  • Great Joannie, your sound is amazing!

  • the first one deffinately isn't The High Reel

  • well, indeed!

She annonces the first tune as ' the whistling postman', if I understand well.

Too bad we don't know about the name of the second tune. Can anybody be helping for that one?

    Cheers,

    a french youtuber :)

  • There is an occasional dog woof in the video.

  • That's a whoop. You get a lot of that in Irish music. But dogs do bark along too sometimes.

  • She can make that Tin Whistle dance. Great playing.

  • One of the queens? She is THE queen! The best there is.

  • You don´t forget Mary Bergin, please ;-)

  • I had the pivilege of being in one of Mary's classes where Joanie stopped in for some tunes. It was amazing!

  • If you close your eyes and imagine a very jolly and talented bird celebrating life with all its little heart...thats what it reminds me of. Very nice...thanks for posting. Joanie is every whistle player's inspiration.

  • yeah! that's exactly what good whistle players are, songbirds!

  • Great video! I`ve met her and had my pic taken with her. She IS a very nice person.

  • Lovely.

  • Go! Joannie go! yyyyyyhaaaa!

  • she is awesome, she seems like a very nice person. i would like to meet her.
