Sorry Rob...I updated. So, I just have to highlight both, go to "Path", select "object to path", and then it automatically takes me to the last screen you were in......hooray ...I still think you are the best teacher.
Rob, I have Mac and using Inkscape XQuartz 2.3.6 (xorg-server 1.4.2-apple56). I can not follow your directions. When I highlight both, I can't go where you are saying. I also don't have and effect box on top, but I can go to Object and choose pattern and then pattern to object of vice versa, but can't keep both highlighted and have that option. No where can I find "snake", but I found a "bend. Know you are still across the world flying your Apache.
Please let me know which version of Inkscape you are using. I am fairly new to all of this and the version I have (0.48) doesn't do what you are doing. My tool bar shows "Filters" and "Extensions" after Text. Having a hard time following with your video. I'm sure I'll be able to do this once I know exactly what to do in the version I have. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Thanks for this. I was going nuts but thanks to your video I figured out that when the dialog says "pattern" that doesn't mean make the object to use a pattern first. Really strange results will appear.
I'm new to YouTube, SCAL,& Inkscape AND I turned 60 so my memory is on hiatus, but Your tutorials are of so much help. I'm catching on much sooner being able to watch it done and your explanations are so clear. Question..I am an artist...is there a way I can turn a portrait into an svg so that it can be cut on a cricut?? If not with these, is there some software somewhere that turns a portrait or photo to a line drawing?? Thanks
Thank you for another great tutorial! I never knew to use a letter "o" for that shape on the edge. Wonder what it would look like with other letters? :)
Cool, thanks!!!

In Inkscape .47 you may have to ungroup twice
just make sure that you check your message box at the bottom and keep ungrouping until it says "2 objects of type path in layer 1"

Great video. Was wondering how to do this. The other day I spent hours trying to make a scallop circle.
Thanks again.

If you want a spike type of look use a diamond. It uses the center of the shape or object to place around the circle.
